What's the Frequency, Scott?

Thu, Jun 5, 2008 at 2:36:12 pm PDT

This is rich—Dan Rather pumping Scott McClellan for information about the White House’s secret plan to bring him down: When Scott Met Dan.

RATHER: Is there a special operation in the White House or in the Executive Office Building next door to it that seeks to orchestrate, perhaps even run some of what’s on the Internet?

McCLELLAN: Certainly there’s a large operation, part of the communications operation is the office of strategic iniatives, working to make sure that ... the blogosphere has a tremendous amount of influence, and they just want to make sure that we’re helping to shape some of that narrative ...

RATHER: To your knowledge, are there bloggers who are paid by the White House political operation? Some campaigns have —

McCLELLAN: — not to my knowledge, but that was not an area I focused on.

It still haunts the great Dan Rather that his plot to tilt a presidential election with phony documents was exposed by little nobodies—haunts him so badly that he just can’t accept it wasn’t part of some grand Karl Rove conspiracy.

When Dan tucks himself into his 700 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets at night, his dreams are filled with throbbing memos...

(Hat tip: LGF readers.)

Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues

I'm too terrified to walk out of my own front door,
They're demonstrating outside I think they're gonna start the third world war,
I've been to my local head shrinker,
To help classify my disease,
He said it's one of the cases of acute schizophrenia he sees.

Well the milkman's a spy, and the grocer keeps on following me,
And the woman next door's an undercover for the K.G.B.,
And the man from the Social Security
Keeps on invading my privacy,
Oh there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

I've got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,
Acute schizophrenia blues.

I'm lost on the river, the river of no return,
I can't make decisions, I don't know which way I'm gonna turn,
Even my old dad, lost some of the best friends he ever had,
Apparently, his was a case of acute schizophrenia too.

I got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,

They're watching my house and they're tapping my telephone,
I don't trust nobody, but I'm much too scared to be on my own
And the income tax collector's got his beady eye on me,
No there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

No there ain't no cure for
Schizophrenia disease.

The throbbing memo was what brought me back from the Dark Side.

I was a Reagan conservative before I even knew who Ronald Reagan was. Cast my first vote for him for his second term. Voted for Bush I. Then, for various reasons, I began a leftward drift. Voted for Clinton twice, then Gore, then Kerry. Even participated in Howard Dean's campaign, although I lost enthusiasm for him, particularly after The Scream. Heard about LGF on Internet Infidels, a politically leftist forum primarily frequented by atheists and agnostics. It was referred to as a "right wing hate site" or some such. Checking it out, I quickly realized this was false.

Then the throbbing memo came to my attention, and at last I understood--the MSM could not be trusted. Actually I'd known this for a long time--I'd studied the Vietnam era and knew how the media helped "lose" the war--but I had to relearn it. And I also realized--at heart I was still basically a conservative, even if I disagreed with other conservatives on some issues.

Rosie O'Donnell Finds Elisabeth Hasselbeck 'Very Attractive'

Rosie O'Donnell finds her former "View" co-host and sparring partner Elisabeth Hasselbeck "very attractive," she told Howard Stern Wednesday on his Sirius Satellite radio program.

"Were you not attracted to Elisabeth Hasselbeck?" Stern asked. "When you look at her physically, you don't want her?"

"See, the 'want' is the big thing," O'Donnell responded, suggesting she doesn't desire Hasselbeck. "I find her very attractive. She's very attractive, I think."

"Her body is perfect," Stern said.

"Have you seen her biceps?" O'Donnell replied.

Left-leaning O'Donnell chose to depart the ABC daytime talk show "The View" earlier than planned last year following an on-air confrontation with the more conservative Hasselbeck.

But O'Donnell said her fantasy woman is actually Angelina Jolie.

“That one I can go, ‘Oh my God!’ ” O’Donnell said. "She's got a little darkness — a little kind of weird sexuality going on."

Obama to AIPAC:

Now let me be clear. Israel’s security is sacrosanct. It is non-negotiable. The Palestinians need a state that is contiguous and cohesive, and that allows them to prosper – but any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. And Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.

Obama campaign today:

But a campaign adviser clarified Thursday that Obama believes "Jerusalem is a final status issue, which means it has to be negotiated between the two parties" as part of "an agreement that they both can live with."

Free health care ?
Only free if you don't pay taxes

I just found the perfect solution. Quit your job, have more kids, live off the state. That way we can both enjoy the benefits of not working and paying taxes AND free healthcare.

Or not...

Sometimes when I look at the medical organization of the military I feel like I already know the cons of having free or "universal" healthcare. Long long waits for appointments, long gaps between visits, over-worked staffs and a lot of people going to see the doctor for minor issues that need no doctor visit to fix up.

Well first of all I have no idea what is in Obama's mind if anything. However, in the past "Contiguous" has meant that the Palestinians would get the West Bank essentially intact with some modifications and that there would be a "Land Bridge" of sorts that would allow Terrorists to travel from Gaza to the West Bank.

OT - HARTFORD, Conn. - A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by. Pedestrians gawk but appear to do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away.

303 CoCo  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 4:07:43pm

OT: I got the following response from one of my Senators when asking that he not support the Lieberman-Warner's "cap-and-trade" bill:

Thank you for contacting me regarding climate change legislation. I appreciate hearing from you and understanding your perspective on this issue.

For the past five years I have met with concerned citizens, business leaders, environmental groups and members of the agricultural community from Arkansas and across the nation. These constituents and organizations have made it clear that appropriate climate change legislation must strike the difficult balance of reducing harmful emissions without constraining economic growth. The abundance of legislative proposals in Congress illustrate how varied the course of actions people believe the United States should undertake to achieve this common good. These approaches include creating a "cap and trade" system to limit nationwide emissions, providing tax incentives for developing and deploying technologies that decrease greenhouse gas emissions, promoting alternative fuel and energy sources, and discouraging the use of fossil fuels.

Building upon the initiatives already created by Congress, I believe that we stand poised to take significant strides to moderate the effects of climate change. A successful strategy will require the development of new technology to reduce and capture emissions, provide for greater energy efficiencies, and avoid unnecessary energy expenditures. Additionally, I believe alternative fuels and renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, will aide in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These alternative technologies, fuels, and energy sources also have the potential to provide economic growth, and move the nation toward energy independence. I will work diligently to address this issue and will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind as the debate continues in the Senate.

Thank you again for sharing your views and concerns with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my office about this or any other matter of concern to you. As always, I welcome your input.
Sincerely,

Mark Pryor

A Presidential Fist Bump
by Mike Krumboltz

June 5, 2008 12:48:59 PM

It's been a marathon. No, scratch that. It's been an ultra marathon, this race for the Democratic nomination. So it's no wonder that when Barack Obama finally claimed the right to represent his party, he couldn't help but cut loose and celebrate with his wife, Michelle.

But instead of the expected hug and kiss on the cheek, the couple shared the "fist-bump heard 'round the world." The exuberant gesture sparked big interest in the Buzz. Searches on "obama fist bump" soared across the country as major news outlets replayed and analyzed the moment. Several articles, including this one from the New York Daily News, explained that many folks found the bump a charming reminder that, as Senator Obama puts it, despite all the hoopla and stress, he and his wife still "do silly things."

Of course, no one would dare presume that a simple fist bump will elevate Senator Obama to the White House. But an article from New York Magazine speculates that the knocking of knuckles may go a long way toward proving that the aspiring commander-in-chief is actually kind of hip. When was the last time you could say that about a presidential candidate and keep a straight face?

353 Allah al Fubar  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 4:23:46pm

From this point forward, let it be said, so shall it be done:

Obamamessiah declares a ban on the acronym WMD. From this point forward.. WE the koolaid drinkin dhimmi peeps and sheeps of the USA will no longer use this acronym. It is forever banned, so sayeth obamamessiah. We will no longer be threatened with Weapons of Mass Destruction.

We the koolaid drinkin dhimmi peeps will now use an alternative acronym WWMD: Whitey Wanna MD.

Stay tuned, for Michelle's much anticipated vocal tape. About "Whitey".

Can I get a amen?

Michelle?

re: #302 Silhouette

OT - HARTFORD, Conn. - A 78-year-old man is tossed like a rag doll by a hit-and-run driver and lies motionless on a busy city street as car after car goes by. Pedestrians gawk but appear to do nothing. One driver stops briefly but then pulls back into traffic. A man on a scooter slowly circles the victim before zipping away.

Everyone should watch this video and understand that we live in a post-Christian country - how many of these passer-bys are familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

The parable is found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10 verses 25–37.
On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn in Jericho and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." New International Version

When the Loma -Prieta earthquake hit the Bay Area in 1989, my husband's Boy Scout troop members, the older scouts, put on their uniforms, on their own initiative, and went to various intersections to direct traffic.
They were amazing - it was total gridlock almost everywhere, and they did it for HOURS........no wonder the war is so unpopular.

Secretary-General condemns fatal attacks by militants, israelis

The Secretary-General condemns the ongoing rocket and mortar attacks by militant groups, including Hamas, from Gaza against crossing points and Israeli civilian targets, which caused the death of an Israeli civilian and four casualties today. He calls on Hamas and other militant groups to cease such acts. He also reminds them that these actions, as well as attacks on crossings, have detrimental implications for the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza.

The Secretary-General also condemns the death of a Palestinian child and the injury of its mother in Gaza as the result of Israeli Air Force (IAF) fire. While recognizing Israel’s right to self-defence, the Secretary-General calls upon Israel to exercise maximum restraint, and reminds the IAF and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of their responsibility to protect civilians under international humanitarian law during military operations.

re: #370 buzzsawmonkey

I don't know if you are aware of this, but there are several subtexts to the Good Samaritan story.

First, the fact that Samaritans, who follow a variant of the Torah, were despised as apostates in Jesus' time; a "good Samaritan" was equivalent to being a "chaste whore."

Second, that there was a legitimate reason for the priest (Kohen) to avoid the prone man; if he were dead, the Kohen would become contaminated and be unable to perform his priestly duties without purification.

Third, when the Torah is read, the order in which people are called up to read a section of the current portion is Kohen, Levi, Yisroel. In other words, the order in which the three come upon the robbery victim is the same order in which they would be called to read from the Torah--making the point that helping the person in need is an instance of "being called to the Torah" outside of the context of actual worship. In this instance, of course, the third person is not "Yisroel"--i.e., an ordinary Jew--but a Samaritan, one who would not be called to the Torah in a Jewish service and was despised by ordinary Jews. By skipping from Kohen and Levi to Samaritan, Jesus is pre-emptively shaming his listeners to act as well as or better than the Samaritan.

Note, also, that the rabbis and the priests in Jesus' time were engaged in a power struggle over whether the Written Law alone would be followed, or both the Oral and the Written Law. Jesus, as an expounder of the Oral Law, was in the rabbinical camp; consequently, the story is also a backhanded slap at the priestly power structure.

Excellent and eloquent post. I find comfort here as a Messianic Jew.

Military shoots down missile in test off Hawaii

The U.S. military intercepted a ballistic missile Thursday in the first such sea-based test since a Navy cruiser shot down an errant satellite earlier this year.

The military fired the target, a Scud-like missile with a range of a few hundred miles, from a decommissioned amphibious assault ship near Hawaii's island of Kauai.

The USS Lake Erie, based at Pearl Harbor, fired two interceptor missiles that shot down the target in its final seconds of flight about 12 miles above the Pacific Ocean.

With all respect to my Christian friends here, I wouldn't quite go that far. All of these things are quite clear when reading the story from a Jewish perspective; it is simply a matter of knowing the context of the religious practices and the social conditions at the time.

And surely the Jewish leaders of the various factions in Jesus own day were well aware of all of that.
Which is why I wrote what I did.

The current US administration ordered over a million men and women into combat in multiple theaters of a global war. Those men and women, volunteers all, fight not to protect the current administration, but to defend the US Constitution.

That this or any other administration or we, the people are protected by that oath is simply a happy by-product.

Those soldiers have not failed us. We are immeasurably safer as a direct result of several hundred thousand dead unholy warriors across dozens of far flung battlefields. In this success our military has suffered astoundingly low casualty rates through a combination of training, force protection schemes, and the best combat medical care money can buy.

This administration leaves behind it victories on multiple fronts and the potential for total victory world wide before the next (McCain) administration is over. In spite of stumbles and mistakes they have persevered.

This administration and that military has done all this without mobilizing the nation for total war, without a national conscription, without rationing, without mass round ups, without mass detentions, without any major breaches of civil liberties not directly related toward the war effort. And most of all, without the support of far too many Americans. Sometimes with little more than the courage, will, and sheer determination of the US military.

Barak Hussein Obama may very well be the only man who can save al-Qaeda and its allies from their bitter and inevitable end. He is their last best hope.

Think about that when you reach for that November lever. Remember who defends the Constitution that allows you the privilege of a lever in the first place.

I am afraid that you can expect this kind of diplomatic palaver from any American administration. Much of it is real enough, I'm sure, but some of it is bogus. We don't know exactly what maneuvers are being made.

The key question regarding Israel comes down to a candidate's stand on US military preparedness and of the willingness for us to back up diplomacy with armed force. And that is the key question about the war against the jihadis in general.

The story in the spinoff links about people in Hartford, CT, about people ignoring a hit and run victim is sad and shocking, to be sure, but I disagree with the idea that it says something bad about our country as a whole. There are thousands and thousands of car accidents every year, and I'm sure there are plenty of hit and runs. How often do you hear about nobody stopping to help? The odds are that eventually an accident is going to take place in front of a collection of idiot witnesses who for various reasons don't go to the victim's aid, or even call 911 promptly.

About 15 years ago I was driving to work and came on a car that had skidded off a curve on the highway and flipped over. I stopped and so did more than half a dozen other people. Luckily the driver, while badly shaken, was not injured. I and another man waited with her for a few minutes until the emergency personnel arrived. I suspect stuff like this happens every single day. But it's the idiots who make the headlines.

If Jesus was really able to send all of these subtext messages to his hearers in one small parable he really must have been the sent forth one, the messiah.
Genius.

He just had unlimited text messaging 2,000 years ahead of the rest of us, and the whole world as his friends and family.

I think the key question is whether John McCain realizes the general election has really, really begun now, and not after the convention.

The general election begin several months ago.

420 Hard Right  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 5:39:00pm

Dan is a typical leftist. He the great Dan was taken down for "telling the truth" and he can't see why...since being a leftist means deny reality and create one that fits your beliefs. Since reality doesn't match his fantasy, it must have been a conspiracy by those at the top. That's also much more satisfying to his ego than being nailed by "lowly bloggers".

I can't believe after all this time you still get to post the faux memo. (ruh roh, its the "throbbing" faux memo, Rather must be at it again.

It is rather sad to see an aging reporter like Rather continuously make a fool of himself. Hasn't he had enough? He always has that "aHAH, I KNEW it" look on his face, like he's just about to crack the biggest story on the planet. Trouble is, it's just his paranoia about evildoers concocting another plot to discredit him. He'll never get that he did that to himself.

423 Mich-again  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 6:28:14pm

I wish that asshats like McClellan or Rather would get to make guest appearances in these threads and argue their points here with the rabble of nameless lizards. The nonsense they get paid to spout wouldn't even rate them as decent trolls.

424 Sharmuta  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 7:27:50pm

dan's a moron. Is he trying to suggest the Bush White House paid Charles to discredit his work before they'd even won the White House? I suppose- history timelines are not his strong suit.

425 Hard Right  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 7:35:31pm

Stop using logic and facts, Sharmuta. You know that's kryptonite to leftists. :)

Socialists can never believe that The People could do anything.

Of course not, it doesn't fit their mindset. The people need the government to run their lives and do everything for them.

430 SunCat  Fri, Jun 6, 2008 11:28:23am

The homeless man who punched Dan Rather saying "what's the frequency, Kenneth?" had the excuse of schizophrenia. Dan Rather has no excuse.

Dan,

even if Karl was behind the memos,

it was your GODDAMN SHEER STUPIDITY that led to your downfall.

Why can't you admit you're just a sucker, complete and utter technological incompetent, and buffoon, an evil Ted Baxter wannabe?
