Unwelcome Linkage

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 9:27:29 pm PDT

The ‘noquarter’ blog run by Larry Johnson has been added to the blacklist for spinoff links; I won’t allow any more links to that site because it’s been proven many times over to be dishonest and untrustworthy. Unfortunately there are quite a few people who apparently have not gotten the message (I just had to delete 13 links to that pit), so it’s being automatically blocked now.

I’m not going to let LGF be used to disseminate dirty tricks and misinformation, for either side of this misbegotten election.

Links to the lunatic “Pastor Manning” and his raving nonsense will also be deleted; so don’t bother posting them here.

That is all.

Well speculation or assertions as to someone's sexual orientation is pointless anyway as it has no impact on one's ideology and thus their expected behavior in elective office.

Apropos my #42 above, I wonder whether the invention of the water closet, subsequent to Napoleon's defeat, is actually the source of the British slang term "loo" for a toilet; whether the Battle of Waterloo gave its name to the comfort station.

Seems plausible, at least. I've always wondered what the origin of the term was.

When the media can become more important that the voice of the people. We have a problem. This is a historical election. But not because of what many may think. It’s historical because we have witnessed the fall of the Democratic Party as we used to know it.

But the site is full of crap, lies and posturing. While I am not a "friend of Dorothy," spending time there caused me to repeat, "there's no place like home, there's no place..."

Speaking of the "Dear Leader", Kim Jong-il's official biographers claim that his birth at Baekdu Mountain was foretold by a swallow and heralded by the appearance of a double rainbow over the mountain and a new star in the heavens.

The Obamessiah needs to get himself some new biographers if he wants to wrest that title from Kimmy. Maybe they can discuss it when he meets him without preconditions.

115 pat  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 10:09:56pm

That is a point. Johnson's entire spiel was that he got this from the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
I rarely agree with Fred Barnes, but I do on this. The sermons are available. They are all crazy. It is a crazy church. The Obamas are members. But they are not crazy.

It means you have an error in the URL. A bad character or a space in the wrong place are likely candidates.

It's happened on several when I've selected all, copied and pasted - couldn't figure out what was wrong - even tried reloading the news site and got the same URL

Looks like whatever McCain chooses for his theme song gets complaints from the wacko singers who did the songs. Seems most "artists" are Obama sympathizers. I know there is someone out there who probably wouldn't object, but most are afraid to be seen on the "wrong" side.

That reminded me of a piece of Orwell I read just this afternoon:
"It was a time of labels, slogans and evasions. At the worst moments you were expected to lock yourself up in a constipating ittle cage of lies; at the best a sort of voluntary censorship ("Ought I to say this? Is it profascist?") was at work in nearly everyone's mind. it is almost inconceivable that good novels should be written in such an atmosphere. good novels are not written by orthodoxy-sniffers, not by people who are conscience-stricken about their own orthodoxy. good novels are written by people who are not frightened."

Gah, the comments on that site... like this:

Olivia on May 31st, 2008

I really dont think its their business honestly.. Yea people want to kno if there president is healthy but to that deep in his business is unnessasary! Leave him only because he is black.. Do yall get ALL the president and president candidates health records?!?! HECKA NAW! So why do yall need Obama’s?!?! Oh yea because he’s BLACK! Yall need to get over yall selves and accept he jus might win this thing!..

And this:

LOVELY on May 31st, 2008

I think that OBAMA medical records are totally unnessary. I never in history seen a request for any other canadiate’s medical record to be pubically released. There a series of mental and pysically test that I feel that a canadiate showed endure but for him to have to release his medical history is totally an act of ingorance, on the behalf of people who we elect to run our country. VOTE OBAMA not just because he is BLACK but because he is REAL! It’s over a 1000 years due WE NEED CHANGE!

I weep for our future sometimes. UGH

Nice reference. That's from Inside the Whale, IIRC.

In the first place, not America, but the ancient bone-heap of Europe, where every grain of soil has passed through innumerable human bodies. Secondly, not an epoch of expansion and liberty, but an epoch of fear, tyranny, and regimentation.

To say ‘I accept’ in an age like our own is to say that you accept concentration camps, rubber truncheons. Hitler, Stalin, bombs, aeroplanes, tinned food, machine guns, putsches, purges, slogans, Bedaux belts, gas masks, submarines, spies, provocateurs, press censorship, secret prisons, aspirins, Hollywood films, and political murders.

If only the old continent had someone like Orwell today, who saw so clearly in the blinding light of day...

Johnson must be an ass. McCain has to win this election fair and square. We just cannot go through another "selected not elected," or similar scenario where the democrats can claim dirty tricks, unfair advantage, or anything else.

I remember damn well what it meant to live under curfew due to uncontainable riots and don't want to even think about this country going through anything like that again - and any part of this election perceived to be "unfair" could trigger something like them again.

This election is just too important - everything on the Republican side is going to have to be 150% above board. I'm happy to see McCain taking the high road.

I remember hearing that when a 'tolerant' NPR-type lib was hoping that Clarence Thomas would keel over and die while eating breakfast..

Totally OT, but your mention of NPR reminded me of an article I read earlier today in Dawn - Pakistan's leading English language newspaper on Clinton's concession. Two sentences were particularly noteworthy:

“The way to continue our fight now ... is to take our energy, our passions, our strengths and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama, the next president of the United States,” she declared amid thunderous applause from a large crowd.
The National Public Radio, America’s most respected radio station, observed that their race “was as gruelling as it was groundbreaking.”

NOMINATE, v. To designate for the heaviest political assessment. To
put forward a suitable person to incur the mudgobbling and deadcatting
of the opposition.

NOMINEE, n. A modest gentleman shrinking from the distinction of
private life and diligently seeking the honorable obscurity of public
office.

POLITICS, n. A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of
principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.

POLITICIAN, n. An eel in the fundamental mud upon which the
superstructure of organized society is reared. When he wriggles he
mistakes the agitation of his tail for the trembling of the edifice.
As compared with the statesman, he suffers the disadvantage of being
alive.

ABBA
The blond girl was a musical phenom. Hated going live. She could keep 16 instrumental rhythms in her head at the same time. She was a true musician and was recruited. She was already recognized when recruited, a the real deal. She did all the mixing. Sometimes for hours at a time. Would not let the others help. Her first obsession was Dancing Queen.

Running Firefox 2.0.0.14, (also seen in IE 6):
Find a comment written by someone not currently logged on. (e.g. gunjam, comment #2)
Click on the comment number -- comment now displayed in its own tab.
Click on the football avatar in that new tab -- user's profile is displayed.

However, there is a 1 at the start of the "Registered Since:" line.

Harmless, but a lot of us software types are a bit 'retentive' when it comes to such things.

Here’s a trustworthy link.

Did anyone catch the Canadian journalist Ezra Levant discussing the issue of limits on free speech?

This is a must watch. This guy is brilliant. He takes on an anti-free speech postmodernist bureaucrat nailing him time-and-time again. He pokes huge holes in the anti “hate” speech position of the Canadian government.

He is one of the guys on a panel, but he gets quite a few words in. This runs about 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Any wine coin-a-soors here have any informed opinions or reccomendations about the wines that have been coming out of Chile, Argentina or South Africa the past few years?

I got a nice bottle of Chilean red a few weeks ago at the Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market branch (USA subsidiary of Brit supermarket chain TESCO-kind of a competitor to Trader Joes) in Chandler AZ. Hacienda Altavina Carmenere. Never had Carmenere before, I'd say it's not as robust and dry as a Cabernet Sauvignon but not as sweet as a Syrah or Merlot. I liked it, I will definitely buy it again. That variety of grape is from France but Chile is now the largest cultivator of Carmenere.

I'm a red wine drinker, don't care much for whites except Pinot Grigio and Riesling. The Afrikaaners do good Rieslings. Can't think of any names at the moment tho'.

Chardonnay is just too gd fruity for my taste.

I'm not much of a wine snob, I like finding good but inexpensive wines. If I feel like being spendy on liquor I will buy a bottle of single malt Scotch or a good Polish potato vodka. Luksusova is great stuff if you want a good buzz from the potatoe. (Quaylism deliberate) Nearly as good as Chopin but about 2/3 the price.

~~~
Here's A Health To The Company
Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain,
For we may and might never all meet here again.
So here's a health to the company, and one to my lass.
Let us drink and be merry all out of one glass.
Let us drink and be merry all grief to refrain,
For we may and might never all meet here again.
Here's a health to the wee lass that I love so well.
For style and for beauty there's none can excel;
She smiles on my countenance as she sits on my knee.
Sure, there's no one on earth who's as happy as me.
Our ship lies at harbor, she's ready to dock;
I wish her safe landings without any shock.
And if ever we meet again by land or by sea,
I will always remember your kindness to me.
re: #399 Fenway_Nation
Any wine coin-a-soors here have any informed opinions or reccomendations about the wines that have been coming out of Chile, Argentina or South Africa the past few years?
You get what you pay for, but the good news is that you get a lot for your money with south tropical wines. In my experience, aim for the $10-15 price point, try whatever looks interesting, you'll come out ahead even with a random selection.
Fenway_Nation puts you in the Boston area, perhaps? Try Warehouse Wine & Spirits (my former employer) on Route 9 in Framingham if you're out west of the city. Those guys know everything. :)
Not familiar with Origa.
I will look it up tomorrow when the room stops spinning.
Good night.
She's a Russian singer who lives in Japan and works with Yoko Kanno, who is a jazz band leader and anime/movie soundtrack composer.
Origa is her stage name. Her real name is Olga Vitalevna Yakovleva. She's got a fantastic voice.
I came back just to tell Fenway that Syrah is correct- you'll find good wines from South America and bad wines from South America. There are, however, a number of well known French wine makers moving in to those areas though, and you can find quite excellent wines. It just takes a little research- I suggest Wine Spectator as a good starting point. A lot of good values to be found in Chilean wine. Good luck!
Again- good night, All.
you ever notice that the term "food" isn't used in the process?
you pick up bulk rations at the TISA, and drag them back to the mess facility.
Heh. I used to live in Ipanema, on Avenida Vieira Souto.
When Tom Jobim died, they tried to rename this mega-famous street opposite the Atlantic Ocean for him. The Vieira Souto family protested -- so in 1998 or so, they renamed Rio's Airport from Galeão, "Tom Jobim".
Sounds reasonable to err on the side of caution if you're talking about minefields, but here I guess Mr Johnson wants to avoid that his blog and we be labeled a bunch of Nazis by those that would want to discredit what he's done. Reasonable to avoid that.
So we can't link to Jesse either?
Where's the fun in that?
Also, Mr Johnson killed a bunch of posts that were less than reverent toward Ted Kennedy and his cancer. Some were certainly in poor taste, but I feel that Kennedy as done and said lots worse as a Senator.
What comes to mind immediately is his saying Abu Ghraib was back in business under new management. Seems to me no les ffensive than a couple liver jokes. You should've seen what went up on Wonkette from liberals!
This is Mr Johnson's blog and I respect his decisions. I wonder wht the big deal is here though.
He holds himself, his blog, and those of us who have the privilege of posting here to a much higher standard.
The toothless nuclear watchdog Mohammad ElBaradei has a really stupid take on Israel's bombing of the Syrian nuclear site back in September. Ya see, Israel unilaterally bombing rogue nuclear sites undermines international agreements that are supposed to prevent the rogue nuclear sites from being built. Can't wait for the whole interview to come out Tuesday.
Mohamed ElBaradei, the United Nations' chief nuclear inspector, believes there is a growing threat to global peace through the build-up of nuclear arms and the increasing penchant of counties to bomb suspected nuclear facilities. "With unilateral military actions, countries are undermining international agreements, and we are at a historic turning point,"
That's right. It's supposed to get darn near 100 here today. Not much you can do but stay out of it and keep cool. We're cutting back on some things, also. Nothing big, just little things. I started a 4 day work week (THE greatest thing invented, I have come to realize this week) but we worked for it. We should be allowed to enjoy the fruits of our labors, or at least to not sweat like a rented mule.
It is rapidly becoming apparent to even the blind and deaf that the UN has grown increasingly ineffective and corrupt. When reform is attempted, the reformers are corrupted and the UN continues to spiral out of control. Over the last 20 years the US has attempted to bring the UN up to western standards of non-corruption and effectiveness. Its not working and the US is pouring money into a global rathole that bites the hand that feeds it. McCain has the right idea, a league of Democracies, with western values and effectivness. As soon as the US pulls out of the UN, who will provide the major funding for it? Suadi Arabia or Iran?
I think the schools should consider 4 day weeks as well. Make the day a bit longer, but it would save 20% on all the busing costs. I'm not sure what all the unions involved would say, but it seems like a win-win. Probably the biggest opponents would be parents who need the schools to babysit the young ones.
Fridays often end up being lost days anyway -- I can't remember my son doing anything useful on those days. Now that we're home schooling, Friday has become a short day; usually the time for make up work.
Right on the baby-sitting part. A friend of mine in the ed biz describes some parents viewing schools like a laundry -- drop off the kids at 7:00 and expect to pick them up cleaned and pressed later in the afternoon.
For me, drama comes more readily. I can write (IMHO), but training others to write, revise, and produce a newspaper (including photographs and all the AP style rules of layout) seven times a year is far more stressful.
I have some theater comedy for you.
I spent a summer - about 30 years ago - helping build sets for the local theater which was located in a converted barn in rural Pennsylvania. Start with the frames. Nail some 2.4s together. Stretch muslim over them, and staple onto the 2x4s. 'Paint' muslim with Elmers glue to firm up.
Take a break.
Come back an hour later - and find 5 pounds of bat guano on all the frames.
That's why it was only one summer.
Very true. I think the real issue is that we have to, as a society, re-think "work" as a concept. The current concept of the five-day work week is still rooted in nineteenth-century ideas about industrial labor. It is well known that people do not produce consistently through an 8 hour day, and frankly technology is moving to the point that there is really very little need for "office time" in the traditional sense. There are some really interesting examples of companies which operate 24/7 and yet don't have more than a handful of employees in any one place more than a couple of times a month.
In any event, the management principles applied to the organization of modern office pools derive from eighteenth-century ideas about prisons. No, really -- the idea is to structure workspaces so that a minimum number of managers/guards can observe a maximum number of workers/prisoners while keeping the latter focused on their tasks and cut off from one another. Schools are organized in much the same way.
If our goal is to increase productivity, efficiency, creativity, and to inculcate freedom over mindless regimentation, the current models of school and work have got to go.
but mom is already planning on HRT when the time comes -- she's watched her mom suffer while not doing it long enough.
Tell her to start immediately at onset. The medical risks that so frightened everyone turned out to apply only to those women who started years late. The study that was published initially hid that little item - because the doc that headed it is in the tank for the osteoporosis meds pharmaceuticals. No hormones, more bone loss. My doc knows him and considers him the most mysoginistic SOB she's ever met. And if your wife wonders about the 5-year limit - my doc has had patients who've been on HRT for decades - and swears they look 10-20 years younger than their calender age.
The French heart Obama, go figure. What a piece of asshattery.
Roger Cohen: The good American and Monsieur Obama
PARIS: The French have always cherished a class of people called "les bons Américains." These good Americans were those truest to a Gallic idea of what the United States should be, and in recent years those at the furthest remove from the aberrant folk who elected George W. Bush
But right now, in French eyes, there's a single good American: the Democratic Party nominee, Barack Obama. His book, "The Audacity of Hope," is on bestseller lists. His face is everywhere, sometimes in socialist realist images evoking Che Guevara.
An online committee for his election has drawn all-star support, including the fashion designer Sonia Rykiel, the Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë, the writer-philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy, and Pierre Bergé, the partner of the late Yves Saint-Laurent.
That anti-Gallic, freedom-fries fever has run its course. It's exhausted, as are many of the jingoistic elements of the conservative, Republican wave that has been the dominant force in U.S. politics since Nixon.
Wishing these people would go away...
Knowing they won't.
Ortega’s presidency on shaky ground after Farc comments
Nicaragua's leader is now coming under increased fire after he eulogised Manuel Marulanda, the fallen founder and leader of Colombian Marxist rebel group Farc. His popularity has plunged since he took power last January, from an approval rating of 64% just after he took over the reins to 21% just over a year into his presidency. A more recent poll, released last month, showed 64% of Nicaraguans believe Ortega is trying to institute a dictatorship.
Al Qaeda cell busted in Iraq: Mayor
Iraqi police have dismantled an Al Qaeda cell of would-be suicide bombers in western Iraq and seized 50 explosive belts primed for use, a local Mayor said.
Sheikh Hikmat Jubair al-Kaud, Mayor of the town of Hit, said the arrests were carried out during a raid by special units of the police.
According to the Mayor, the dismantled cell carried out a June 1 attack on a police checkpoint in Hit that killed nine people, including an officer.
"Those arrested are Iraqis but the group has also recruited foreign elements. The first confessions on the June 1 attack were made by a Palestinian," said Mr Kaud.
What the hell is a Jordyptian crib rocker doing in Iraq ? Shouldn't he be fighting the occupation or something ?
"But this I believe is the truth: America dodged a bullet... Mrs. Clinton would have been a disaster as president. Mr. Obama may prove a disaster, and John McCain may, but she would be. Mr. Obama may lie, and Mr. McCain may lie, but she would lie. And she would have brought the whole rattling caravan of Clintonism with her--the scandal-making that is compulsive, the drama that is unending, the sheer daily madness that is her, and him. We have been spared this. Those who did it deserve to be thanked. May I rise in a toast to the Democratic Party,"
I hate going to the dentist. it is like having a plumber come in.
You never have a small problem. Uh uh, you have real serious expensive problems. Now let's get started.
i went through a period where I went to a dentist who used nitrous oxide and I began to HOPE I had something wrong so I could go again. Then I began to demand novacain even for cleanings! aaahhh the good old days!
My present long-time dentist is very gentle, will not use Nitrous for health and safety reasons and my cleanings are now done au naturel. with no complaints from me.
/but oh so expensive. Maybe if I walked there.......I'd save money and be skinny when I was done!
And no, I don't know why Atlanta would be cooler than us either.
Next thing ya know someone from Florida will be saying it's cooler there than it is in Atlanta and, of course, cooler than it is here!
Agreed -- I had drinks with one of the people on Rudi's campaign back last fall, and his comment was that the ONLY Democrat who had any sense with regards to Iraq and foreign policy generally was Hillary.
Obama doesn't have a clue about anything. He's a Hindenburg-sized ego with the brain of a flatworm in a nicely tailored suit who can read a teleprompter like all get out. Beyond that, the only thing he has is the hatred of the world and of others that only the true narcissist can master.
Weapon caches seized in Iraq, al-Qaeda suspects held
Baghdad - Iraqi security forces seized weapons caches, one of them near a suspected al-Qaeda safe haven in the northern Iraqi city of Samarra, while US-led multinational forces captured a suspected al-Qaeda leader and his associate in Mosul, the US military said Sunday. Acting on a tip-off by local people, Iraqi forces seized a weapon cache on the side of a berm near a house believed to have been used as a hideout for al-Qaeda in Iraq group in Samarra, the US military said in a statement.
Anti-CAIR
CAIR: Intimidating Public School?
On 31 May, Erica Mellon posted a blog entry to the "School Zone" titled "Friendswood superintendent: Islam presentation not meant for students".
(The "School Zone" blog is sponsored by the Houston Chronicle; Ms. Mellon is the Chronicle's education reporter.)
In the blog post, Ms. Mellon quotes a letter by Trish Hanks, Friendswood Independent School District Superintendent. From the letter:
"In response to an incident that occurred between students at Friendswood Junior High School and the perception and fear that it caused to some involved, Robin Lowe, principal, was contacted by the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and told that they considered the incident a hate crime and had reported it to the FBI. Mrs. Lowe and Sherry Green, Deputy Superintendent, attended a
meeting with representatives of CAIR."
An unexplained "hate crime" has, according to CAIR, been committed and CAIR has reported the crime to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
End of story?
No. Apparently, a report to the FBI isn't good enough. From the letter:
"At the meeting, CAIR requested an opportunity to present factual and basic information about Muslims to students at Friendswood Junior High School since the school is predominantly Anglo Christian."
Did CAIR intimidate the principal and deputy superintendent? CAIR representatives report a "hate crime" and request time to do a presentation on Islam; no connection?
Further confusing the issue, the Galveston Daily News reports that Asmara Siddiqi denies that CAIR contacted the FBI because "...the school decided to resolve the issue".
This raises two questions:
1) Is CAIR now threatening school administrators to gain secret access to American school children?
2) Why was CAIR, with a proven track record of supporting Islamic terrorism, invited to the school in the first place?
The Friendswood School invited representatives of an Islamic-terrorist supporting organization to make a presentation to the most vulnerable of our citizens: our children. What could these children possibly learn from a hateful organization like CAIR, one that is on record praising Islamic terrorist groups that have and continue to target and terror-murder innocent school children?
No representative of CAIR should be allowed access to any student, in any school, at any time, for any reason. The insanity of allowing CAIR representatives into schools must end, now. No administrator, at any level, should have the authority to grant CAIR access to children under any circumstances.
Period.
The principal of Friendswood School has been "reassigned."
Dr. Daniel Pipes, a well-known expert in the field of Islamist extremism, has commented on this case.
So, will McCain win on the female vote? Some early poll data suggests it's a possibility. Obama got a bump after Hillary bowed out, but not much of a bump -- Dukakis got 8 points more on his bump when he was in the same spot. I think he's got a core group of minorities and idol worshipers locked up, but he's going to have a hard time getting any traction with new constituencies. And there are a lot of po-ed Hillary supporters out there who may very likely jump to McCain because -- and let's be honest -- he's closer to her in world-view that she and Obama were.
I love those sections, because I mostly get the smart athletes and the pre-med students, along with the people who took my course because they wanted me rather than other instructors. Early morning classes are where I get my best students.
Worst times to teach? 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM; the first is the slacker section (earliest time they think they can get up for, and even then they can't), the second is right after lunch and everyone is drifting off to sleep.
4:30 is the best time for seminars; we can go out for beer afterwards and feel not the slightest twinge of guilt.
One of the things Obama did well that was a factor in icing the Clintons was put together a very tight organization that had no drama, or none that we ever knew about, which is the key.
I do not know who is around McCain but I hope they are the same, though in thsi way Republicans are always better behaved than Democrats, maybe having less authority issues by nature.
Good morning to you!
Ordinarily I like Peggy Noonan a lot and agree with what she has said; but not this time. I HATE Hillary, but Obama HATES America - almost as much as his wife and his "spiritual advisor" do. And Obama makes Hillery look like a right winger when it comes to foreign policy.
Obama may be a mistake. a huge one. A collosal one. but I feel nothing but relief.
re: #818 pingjockey
Heh! You can do that in a service school. Doubt mamas little darlin's would appreciate that in a regular school.
Once you develop a reputation as a lovable hardass, you can get away with a lot.
One of my favorite moments was when an ex-serviceman in one of my classes found out that one of the most feared instructors in gunnery school was an old friend of mine. He realized then he was doomed for life.
I had a lot of early classes but was not so happy about that. In my last go round in college I had to ride (a friend drove) an hour to the university. So we took classes all day. More than once I would doze off on the ride home. But I finally graduated with a 4.0 at the age of 51.
Won't say I got a 4.0 but I got a B.S. in Bio-Chem at 35. Now I work in electronics at a high tech firm.
Another thing that will be key -- all politics is local. Local economic conditions play a much bigger role than national perceptions when people get into the booths, and most people, while willing to admit a national problem want to believe that things are good at home. And despite the rhetoric, people don't want change. That's why they went for Bush initially -- it really did seem like more of the same, and, to a large extent, it was.
That is great! I had night classes a couple of times for sonar stuff and absolutely loved to teach at night. All of the upper chain of command is gone. A lot more relaxed and the kids seemed to learn more. Or at least pickup the subject matter quicker.
I agree with Noonan in that with Obama I am cautiously pessimistic with HOPE that my opinion could Change (meaning of him as President actually having to lead since he has already shown me he can campaign and do so without selling out the US and its important ally Israel) but Hillary was a definite awful.
The economy is a concern, though McCain is saying the right thing -- drill everywhere in the US, more nuclear power plants. The ecofascist wing of the Democrats can only respond with "malaise" arguments. Also, if money's tight, all their plans to raise taxes won't play in Peoria.
The Democrats are offering nothing with their "green" eco-friendly energy development. Wind and solar power do not have the energy "density" to power a industrial nation. GA Power is building two new nuclear reactors in S. Georgia. As much as the libs love to stereotype the southern US citizens as backwards, we will have electricity at reasonable prices, while they beg for crumbs from OPEC!
In my undergrad days, mechanical engineering students had almost no choice but to have at least a 9 am class and usually an 8 as well.
I commuted, so I was up early to miss at least some of the rush hour traffic; this also meant that in-between classes I had plenty of library time.
After-lunch was deadly, and I still owe my feminist social anthropology prof an apology, because I would fall asleep. In my defense, it was a basement classroom and usually too warm.
Grad school was a mix of televised course (terrible) and evening classes for me. Since it was an extension program to NASA/JSC, most of the "profs" were professionals, and the classes were usually interesting. I also benefited by association, including a job recommendation (it's good to take a course taught by someone that is consulting a company that needs someone).
I would go back to school in a few years if I thought I could get teachers like the Lizards here, but otherwise I am back to self-directed reading. ;)
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
I saw this attributed to Abraham Lincoln. Can anyone verify?
No question that the democrats are the party of the rich.
Mosca saw, in the rise of the social democratic parties, the most menacing threat to personal freedom and good government. The extension of suffrage brought fort
