Negotiating with Terrorists - Clever or Stupid?

Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 9:37:48 am PDT

Israel’s unsurprising experience in their negotiations with the terrorist group Hizballah shows what we can expect from an Obama presidency that believes in diplomacy above all else: Hizbullah backtracks in negotiations.

Hizbullah has returned to its original demand that Israel release not only several Lebanese prisoners but also hundreds of Palestinian ones in exchange for kidnapped soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, Ynet has learned.

What's stupid is expecting thugs to ever behave with honor- they have none, otherwise they wouldn't be thugs.

Very stupid and naive. So I'm positive it'll be a good fit For Che Obama.

The word of a Muslim is meaningless. A practicing Muslim does not have to tell the truth, and history shows they don't.

No surprise there

Amazingly stupid.

If a group has never shown the proclivity to uphold their end of a negotiated bargain (in scores of opportunities), they should no longer be trusted to be at the bargaining table.

At the end of total military victory against these kinds of groups is the ONLY time they should be allowed to sit at the same table and have any sort of discussion.

There was a time when Israel would have shot their own men rather than allow this public knife-twisting to go on for years. Back then they had no choice and knew it. Now they have been infected with the State Department disease alluded to by President Bush when last in Israel: Appeasement.
Their only response to the thugs who took the men should be "Prepare to die".

Hezbollah and Hamas will keep expanding their demands until the "Zionists" leave "Palestine." In other words, these organizations will always have genocidal positions vis-a-vis Israel. Negotiating won't ever get too much over the long term.

I dislike any generalization like that. It is xenophobic, and typically ignorant.

I have had the honor of serving next to many muslims in combat. Good, honest, truthful, patriotic muslims. People who are as disgusted by what you mentioned as much as you are.

But no surprise as they've done this over and over and over again.

Clever if you've got a satellite checking your position and several hundred cruise missiles in the air.

Stupid if you're trying to convince zealots not to be zealots. The only way to make zealots happy is to give them everything they want, apologize for the inconvenience, then give them things they weren't brave enough to ask before.

25 alegrias  6/22/08 9:49:41 am reply quote 5

To Obama, Hiz-bull-allah are not terrorists but friends, as is their paymaster, Ahmedinejad.

Of course Obama will pay any price, favor any foe, to defend the indefensible, to sell out his country.

Just don't ask Obama to meet with John McCain, without preconditions and hemming and hawing or gazillions of "weapons" made by Moveon-dot-org. It's "WAR" with McCain and those who love America's original freedoms.

It's just a shame Arafat isn't still around to complete the specter of "negotiation".
All that would be needed is Clinton and Carter along side The Big O
and the dunce patrol would be in full swing.
Has any negotiation with the terrorist loving radicals ever produced anything that would be useful to the side that actually wants peace?

29 2by2  6/22/08 9:50:40 am reply quote 1

In general stupid,
except one negotiates with a big stick (loaded gun, 100 F-16's) trouble is that Israel has now a PM who is in essence a run of the mill corrupt politician, who never served in the army. I believe it's essential for Israel to look back to the times when their PM's had real credentials.

30 clear vision  6/22/08 9:50:42 am reply quote 2

Aaarrghh. This is not fair. I lived through the Carter bunglosity in the US with our hostages in Iran, and now I'm living in Israel watching all this go down over and over and over again.

Hizbollah's record of calling for the total destruction of Israel = ALWAYS.

It seems pretty damn clear to me that the answer to the question posed is: STUPID.

they demand that hundreds of terrorists be released in exchange for 2 israeli soldiers.
this is typical of the outrageous inequitable nature of islam.
where ever it is, and regarding whatever it seeks to do.
it is foolish to believe they will ever negotiate willingly.

Negotiating with terrorists is useless- kill them first, negotiate later. If (when) rockets fly fro Gaza once again, respond with napalm. Declare that any part of Gaza where rockets originate is a "free fire" zone, and depopulate it. The greater the range of the rockets, the larger the free fire zone. See who stops first!

The underlings taking their orders from the leaders of Hamas and Al Qeada are frikin brainwashed, so even if and agreement WAS reached? THEN what? How do we stop the OTHERS? Do they think all of the brainwashed minions will lay down their arms and say "Ok, lets go home and have some goat".

Hey Occasional. I'm no expert but Pres. Bush certainly gave leftists & Euros and democrats plenty of diplomatic rope with which to lasso Iran's nuclear ambitions.

If you think it's working, who am I to disagree. As long as we & Israel are prepared to knock out Iran's offending installations--unapologetically--let the dippy games go on.

I for one find it disgusting the EU sends Javier Solana the old US-hater ("SPAIN out of NATO, YANQUIS go home") to negotiate with Iran. He has no balls, as the street coward he was back in his youth in Spain, and of course he considers rogues like Iran "misunderstood" yoots. Solana is just an older Obama. And a pathetic excuse for leadership, but that's who the EU thinks is up to the job.

Spit.

What part of that is over the head of PM Olmerde?
What part of Hizbollunatics lying about a truce or peace deal is surprising. Olmerde should have resigned after his incompetence in Lebanon lost the war. He should have resigned upon the bribe scandal. He is a clear and present threat to peace and security of Israel. It is a tragedy and scandel, that the Knesset doesn't remove him and call for elections.
