This morning on NPR, some guy was interviewing Earl Blumenauer [moonbat-OR] while he was commuting to work on his bicycle, as he has done every day for the last 12 years, but when he starting talking about what he's doing to fight Global Warming, he accidentally turned the wrong way down a one way street. It could not have been more appropriate. Of course, the irony was not mentioned on the radio. I had to laugh alone.

Does not mean that the actually vote that way.

The average American who is going to decide the election does not pay a whole lot of attention until Halloween is safely over. Pollsters call, the person gets annoyed at the intrusion, and tells them anything to shake them off the line.
Personally, I think it is a very, very good sign to see McCain behind at this point.

What could be really interesting, is if that trend continues into the exit polls. People come out after voting for McCain, tell the pollsters they've voted for Obama and the pundits call the election for Obama at 8 p.m. The next morning, it is a 50 state electoral victory for McCain. Opps.

/ This is weird, every time I hit the single quote, I hop to the top of the page.

We prefer to do things in a difficult manner, simply to say we could do it.

For example: Pens didn't work in space. NASA developed the superpen, it could write upside-down, underwater, hot, cold.... whatever. We conquered our problem.

The Russians were like; "Dude, we just used a pencil!"

He’s going to be in the system,” Steele told a morning gathering of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials.“Why are they attacking Michelle Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, and not really attacking, to that degree, her husband?” Steele asked. “Because he has no slave blood in him. He does not have any slave blood in him, but Michelle does.

I've always believed that when you don't know much about a person, your heart and mind fill in the gaps with the best possible scenario. This is my explanation for the Obama campaign and the lead in the polls (which I personally believe are skewed).

I am eager to see him debate, so his supporters can be disappointed when he is not actually made up of skittles and sunshine.

You are right on the money. The more folks learn about Obama, the more they will come to dislike him. He will not be able to stand up under the weakest of examinations. That, however, takes time. Sound bites and photo ops are quick and easy but they won't sustain him forever.

And although the MSM are propping Obama up, in the end they also love to tear people down. There's been more negative press about him than there was about Kerry at the same point in the election cycle, I think, and the campaign finance issue seemed to push a few buttons. If there's enough blood in the water, I could see a feeding frenzy.

McCain has a black daughter, painting him as racist is going to be very difficult. imo.

Interesting. I never knew that:

It didn't take much research to turn up a seemingly innocuous fact about the McCains: John and his wife, Cindy, have an adopted daughter named Bridget. Cindy found Bridget at Mother Theresa's orphanage in Bangladesh, brought her to the United States for medical treatment, and the family ultimately adopted her. Bridget has dark skin. Her biggest charity is repairing cleft palates of poor children.
The operation costs under 1000 dollars and I believe this is how she found her daughter.

Another footnote to the story, she actually brought home two girls, both of which probably would have died without medical care.

And don't let's forget these measures:

22 oz - Standard bottle size of a lot of imported and microbrewed beers (it probably works out to some even-numbered metric measure)

32 oz - One quart. Tecate and other Mexican beers come in bottles this size. The locals call them ballenas (whales).

40 oz - The famed "Fo'tie" of cheap-malt-liquor fame. Essentially two imperial pints of fortified bad beer - guaranteed to produce a cheap, sloppy drunk.

60 oz - The "Sixty". For those malt drinkers needing more than just a Fo'tie. I believe many places have banned the 60-oz bottle because of its ugly effects on people who drink this amount of malt-liquor in one sitting.

Just for those of you lucky enough to NOT have to rely on Medicare - Medicare ALREADY "allows" payments for virtually every doctor, surgical, prescription, and hospital visit, procedure or stay which are significantly below the amount normally charged by those doctors and hospitals - to the point where some doctors are just not taking Medicare patients at all. For example, I went on Medicare this calendar year and before the month of January was out, my internist sent me a note asking me to schedule a physical exam as soon as possible as he was already "booked" with his medicare patients through October of this year.
Bill was co-sponsored in the House by Charles Rangel (D-NY) and John Dingel (D-Michigan).
Congress has until June 30th to block legislation that would cut Doctor reimbursements by 11%.

Congress tries this every few years and every few years they end up cutting things other than doctor pay, because the doctors will just walk, the reimbursement is already so bad (as your experiences show), and people have a relationship with their doctors but not a big, impersonal health care plan. So that's where the cuts will be made. And it'll hurt just as much through delays in care and poor service. There really isn't a lot of waste left except what is caused by things beyond the control of the health care system.

re: #157 Lucius Septimius Hey Lucius - yeah, sure the Dems do care about the poor, elderly and infirm. I'm on Medicare because I'm on SSDI (don't worry youngin's - I've paid WAAAY more into social security than I'll ever collect, according to my docs) and Medicare costs ME something like $447 a month for basic medicare ($98.68 per month) supplemental medicare to cover the 20% "gap" that medicare doesn't pay doctors ($298 per month) and supplemental drug coverage ($58 per month) until I've "spent" $2,250 a year, then I have to pay out of my own not exactly generous SSDI, the next $4,050 of prescription expenses).
Uh, btw, does somebody owe me an "e-mail" my friend?! LOL!

re: #168 buzzsawmonkey

PS It may be hard to fathom now, but back in the period 1900-1950 the Socialists hated the Communists. My grandfather, a founder of the Furriers' Union in 1910, and a Socialist then, left the union when the Communists took it over.

The two groups were at daggers drawn most of the time. The Communists referred to Socialists as "social-fascists" in the 1930s. On that basis alone, I doubt that Orwell was ever CP.

MOST OF THE SOCIALIST WERE 'SOCIAL DEMOCRATS' AND NOT MARXISTS.

Tilly dropped a scuba tank size bottle of Coke on her foot and it looks as bad as it hurts!

I would like to thank my unruly pack of dogs for this mishap!

re: #64 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

Ok, I'm about ready to smack a guy. He was trying to argue that a M-16 with a scope could not hit a man sized target at 200 meters. Thats funny, 200 meters is the minimum range the Marines qualify with and thats without a scope.

In slow fire at 500 meters, I hit 40/40 lethal bullseyes with the M1A1.

No scope.

173 really grumpy big dog Johnson  Tue, Jun 24, 2008 5:55:17pm

Sorry, I meant to type M16A1, not M1A1. That's the older Abrams tank, not a rifle.

From the Presidential Seal discussion just before this open thread, there was talk about voting for Bob Barr. Most responses referred to 'a wasted vote.'

Help me out here, folks. Obama currently has a 15% point lead over McCain. Huge numbers of Republicans don't like McCain for oh, two or three DOZEN reasons. Why is a vote for Obama or McCain not 'wasted,' but a vote for Barr is? Especially when Obama is anathema and McCain doesn't appear to have a snowball's chance to win?

If you don't like what Barr stands for - fine. Don't vote for him. If you want to register a protest vote about the farce this election seems to be becoming, do vote for him. Taking the high road and refusing to vote is also a vote for Obama.

Do the folks who don't want to 'waste' their votes believe they must vote for a winner for their vote to count? If they do, then they should vote for Obama to show their disdain for McCain. One commenter on the earlier thread did say a vote for Barr was a vote for Obama. I wonder if that commenter will sit out the election?

Obama's favorite Bob Dylan song according to his upcoming interview in Rolling Stone (with cover photo natch-still waiting for any Repub to be given such hagiography);

ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I wake in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray for rain.
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane.
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
He asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
Well, he puts his cigar
Out in your face just for kicks.
His bedroom window
It is made out of bricks.
The National Guard stands around his door.
Ah, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law.
Everybody says
She's the brains behind pa.
She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
They sing while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

favorite Rolling Stones song:

Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

The floods is threat'ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away

iI have to bring this up: Pat Pukecannon was on the Imus show this morning comparing B. Hussein Obama to Ronald Reagan! Buchanan is truly despicable. The man is filled with hatred for the GOP and McCain in particular.re: #42 Typicalwhitey

re: #175 starbird
A "protest" vote will elect the Marxist formerly known as B. Hussein Obama - and we may not recover from that one!
