Daily Kos: How to Forge Presidential Press Passes

Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 5:44:09 pm PDT

You may have seen on the news that President Bush was heckled during his July 4th speech at Monticello by CodePink moonbats doing their usual “spoiled children on crack” routine.

Q: How do these lunatics get into these kinds of events?

A: They forge press passes, and brag about it at Daily Kos: Daily Kos: BREAKING: Bush heckled at Monticello by CodePink!

Early this morning I found an unusual email from Medea Benjamin waiting for me in my inbox. It seems that last week when she was arrested in Florida, they confiscated her Global Exchange press pass, and could I make her another one?

Ever since I figured out how to duplicate Medea’s press pass for other members of CodePink, I have been doing so with her blessing. Since Medea is the founding director and CEO of Global Exchange as well as one of the founders of CodePink, how I implemented it may be a bit of a hack; but it is quite legitimate insofar that yes, these are valid press passes for a news organization, created with the full knowledge and permission of the company director.

Now, ironically, I was going to have to whip out a copy of the document that served as the original.

Last summer, using photos of her own press pass and head shots of the various members, I created a template in Avery Designpro’s free edition, with a bit more assistance from a handy bit of freeware called Gadwin Printscreen.

I had a little fun with it, as you might imagine.

There was a bit of a delay producing the 2008 versions of the passes when the primary system I had the templates stored on crashed.

However, I had found a backup of the original template a few weeks ago and so this morning I was able to email her a copy within seconds.

(Hat tip: Shiplord Kirel.)

Dont think a press pass counts as an official form of ID. I would say the government needs to tighten down the access rosters for the press. The problem is if they tighten down those, some organizations might decide its not worth it. It comes down to a choice of security versus press access. If they tighten too much, the MSM will skewer them.

It would seem to me that if the forged pass is being used to get closer access to the President, then it should fall under some sort of law breaking.

re: #29 Ledger1

That's what I was thinking. One would think that anyone who attends an event with the president in close proximity is going to be looked at closely before the event. Since the press is usually closest to him, and someone must be in charge of authenticating press passes.

They simply make up news names. That way if one group gets IDd, then other groups can still make it in.

43 seekeroftruth  Sat, Jul 5, 2008 5:58:34pm

How many other people are getting that close to our president and other politicians with these press pass forgeries?
And it seems like the people in the press would know who Medea Benjamin is. If she's hanging around the press, wouldn't someone out her and her fake pass?

re: #25 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

Dont think a press pass counts as an official form of ID

Not per se, like a driver license or a passport, but it still assumes bonafides with a media organization. As an example, in April 1995, two guys chartered a helicopter to fly over the Murrah Building bombing a couple of hours after it happened, to go sightseeing, but misrepresenting themselves as members of the press. Upon landing, they were immediately arrested for interfering with a Federal investigation and unlawfully flying over a prohibited area.

So,in the right (wrong) situation, a person holding a press pass wrongfully CAN be in a lot of trouble.

I'm sure if the US Secret Service thinks that this is some credible threat, they'll find some law that they can apply.

In most instances when the POTUS is involved and a person seems in any way suspicious, they will be jailed for 72 hours without charges while the USSS check them out. A cousin of mine used to pilot Marine One.

I agree 100%. The problem in this type of situation is one they count on though. They probably seed a couple loons with varying organizations into an event. A basic security clearance usually just means you haven't been colossally stupid in the past and they dont have any reason not to trust you.

Science, even top secret science relies on the free flow of information.
Security relies on restricting the flow of information.

I know a retired guy who did security at Hanford when it made bomb grade Pu. The scientists would be in lunch room chatting about stuff with people not in their section. He said it was just plain nutso at times.

Watch the code pinko rushing the stage where Bush is.

/it be much funnier if they just justifiably shot her

No. If one of these wackos came screaming, and running at the stage making erratic motions and the Secret Service did do the deed and disable them, it'd be proof that Chimpy McHalliburton is the equal of Hitler.

At least that is how the MSM and the Left would protray it.

I mean c'mon, we should let any nutcase make a bolt for the stage!

Imagine for a second if Al Gore was president, and some right wing wackos rushed the stage screaming Global Warming is a hoax (now that is the truth) and end the Carbon Tax. I am guessing that person wouldn't get a chance to post what he did on his blog the next day.

The very fact that these clowns were allowed to disrupt such an occasion, and didn't even spend a night in the slammer, shows Bush is much more the civil party than anyone they'd elect.

Remember Bush already survived one assasination attempt (In Georgia, the country) someone threw a grenade, luckily it was a dud. Who knows how many more the Secret Service has prevented (trolling liberal message boards reveals a ton of assasination rhetoric).

I recommend getting close to the nearest Code Pinker and administering a nice quick throat chop. Drop them like a sack of beans, gasping for breath and not knowing what the hell hit them. Repeat as necessary.

paging Secret Service.... paging Secret Service....

re: #37 reine.de.tout

what does that mean? the full knowledge and consent of whom? Okay, so, any Republican bigwigs reading this blog, any clout at all to raise a stink about this? It is damnable and dangerous, and unacceptable.

re: #36 Killian Bundy

"Watch the code pinko rushing the stage where Bush is."

Exactly. Close enough to attempt harm, not just fake blood but a real toxin. Have you all noticed that there are now two publicly reported incidents of deranged lefties acquiring deadly toxins? How many others have succeeded? A fake press pass, close enough to rush the stage--this is appalling, and the screen cap and post need to go to the authorities.

re: #29 Ledger1

now this is where the patriot act would be fun to exercise against this orange satan. forging or posting blank documents to enable entry (into events, or into the US, for example [birth cert]) could be a crime.

202 katemaclaren  Sat, Jul 5, 2008 9:35:26pm

Maybe we should help the secret service by sending them a link to this. By the way, isn't this how many criminals are caught? ...bragging about their crime?
Would the Code Pinker who requested the forgery be equally guilty? Maybe the best thing would be to tip off Homeland Security. I'm quite serious, everyone. This isn't really at all amusing except to the criminals. RE: Bin Laden laughing it up--on tape-- after the WTC fell.

203 UncleSam  Sat, Jul 5, 2008 9:39:32pm

Anything leftists do is automatically legal and moral because they're just so much better, smarter, and more spiritually pure than the rest of us verminous peons.

re: #17 David IV of Georgia

Someone actually posted details of how they did this on the internet? I'm not sure if forging a press pass is criminal, but still, not bright at all.

If it's not criminal, it should be. Press passes are official IDs, and will get you into places that are otherwise restricted.

I used to be a press photographer, and some of the places I was admitted into with it were downright amazing -- being able to go through police lines with impunity can be a trip in and of itself.

re: #138 Gang of One

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but was there a Veterans for Peace or Veterans Against the War before Vietnam?

No. Vietnam Veterans Against the War was the original group.

IIRC, most of them had never been in the military in the first place (think Winter Soldier).

re: #148 Sloppy

Back when I wore the funny green suit, to the best of my knowledge, NCOs automatically got a Confidential clearance, and officers automatically got a Secret clearance. This is, of course, until they proved that giving them any kind of a clearance was a mistake (which usually got them busted to the bilge tops if it didn't get them booted from the military).

They usually didn't go postal on your background unless you were up for a Top Secret/Special Intelligence/Compartmented Information clearance. That's when the real proctoscopy began.

The intel community's two favorite mottoes are, "We bet your life," and "Bend over and smile."

re: #182 ErnieG

I see more of a parallel between the DHS and the Three Stooges.

The parallel I see is between the moonbats (Koskidz and DUmmies especially) and the Sturmabteilung. Same tactics, same attitudes.

Throw them both in jail. They endanger Bush, McCain, and Obama with their lack of integrity and low morals.

I guess Kos would never stoop to creating a "Certification of Birth" that lacked the standard imprint/impression?re: #7 EC Marm

I guess Kos would never stoop to creating a "Certification of Birth" that lacked the standard imprint/impression?

Now we all know that typical white grandma called up one of her cronies in Administration for a birth certificate because her daughter with the mandingo fetish gave birth out of the country; her crony complied but did not have access to the gub'mint seal!

210 Timbre  Sun, Jul 6, 2008 7:08:50am

They can forge passes to Hell, which may help expedite the teleological process.

re: #126 MrArchieBunker

The diary authors tag line..."Anyone who fails to see the historical parallels between Blackwater & the Nazi SS, or the DHS & the Gestapo, needs a serious reality check." These people are nuts. Batshit insane.

I guess I need a serious reality check. The thing is, the more I stop to seriously check reality, the more I see the parallels between the modern left and the Hitler Jugend. What gives?

212 soccerdad  Sun, Jul 6, 2008 9:00:18am

And here is how the moonbat ends the rant:

Now this is MY kind of fireworks! My July 4th just improved a thousandfold.

Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU CodePink, for refusing to allow that traitorous, fascist, murdering CREATURE occupying the White House a moment of the peace that he consistently denies to others!

Wow, simply wow.

213 realwest  Sun, Jul 6, 2008 10:54:50am

Seems to me that some sort of Federal Law was broken here - and Kos conspirators are involved in it up to their necks!

214 cannyman  Sun, Jul 6, 2008 4:17:28pm

I hope that the person with the legitimate pass loses her access as a result of passing out credentials like that.

You'd think that the Secret Service would insist that her credentials be revoked.

215 seagreenroom  Sun, Jul 6, 2008 9:41:38pm

Think somebody probably already brought this up, but wouldn't forging documents to gain access to a sitting president be some kind of crime?

If not, it should be.

Once again.............

These are the tolerant & diverse party folks

217 Logic  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 1:31:55pm

My first reaction to this post was, "How would they feel if someone for whom they made one of these phony passes turned out to be an assassin?"... but then I quickly realized that they would be tickled pink (pun intended) to have assisted.
