Obama Photo of the Day

Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:02:00 am PDT

As Barack Obama prepares to visit the city of Ramallah in the West Bank, a Palestinian artist sketches Obama among his other portraits of Jesus, “martyred” Hamas terrorist Abdel Aziz Rantisi (“The Pediatrician of Death”), and Che Guevara.

With a peace dove, of course. You couldn’t make this up.

(Hat tip: Killgore.)

UPDATE at 7/22/08 10:38:54 am:

Here’s another photo of the same artist and the same Obama portrait, this time posed with portraits of Che Guevara and Yasser Arafat: Photo from Reuters Pictures - Daylife.

Quick OT note:

Crude off $5 as storm concerns ease, dollar rises

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures fell more than $5 Tuesday, changing hands at the lowest price in nearly seven weeks and leading broad losses in energy commodities, as the dollar rallied and as worries eased that Tropical Storm Dolly will hit major oil and gas facilities in the Gulf of Mexico.

The DOW is up slightly, the S&P flat.

Now CNN is talking about McCain possibly picking our favorite Bobby Jindal as his VP candidate - not only is he way young for the job, but his connections with ID are... troublesome, for me.

Each time McCain scores a few points in my book, he takes two and a half steps backwards - I'm afraid the next four years are going to be painful regardless of the outcome in November.

Another observation from my masochistic little hobby of analyzing how NPR reports the news:

1) When crude oil was over $140 a barrel it was a 'lead story' and the closing price was faithfully reported every day.

2) When crude slipped below $140 the closing price was only mentioned if there was a sharp increase in price on a given day.

3) Crude below $130 isn't mentioned at all - the story doesn't exist - results of a birdcall contest are deemed to be more newsworthy.

At this point in the campaign I think the dems need pissed off motorists more than they need the enviro-luddites, who are on board regardless. Hence stories about falling oil prices are strictly verboten and I don't think they'll do anything to call attention to the price of oil as long as it keeps falling.

Obama to stroll through Temple of Hercules

. As an advisor to Obama said during a briefing on Tuesday morning, "The dinner is not over until the King says it is over."

The briefing, done on the condition reporters not quote the "senior advisers" (yes, I protested but for a practical matter I did not raise maximum fuss since this is a fight I can wage in the U.S.) revealed:

*The Obama stagecraft will be on display later today when Obama hosts a press conference in the ancient ruins of the Amman Citadel. The backdrop will be the "new" Amman. The camera swing will take in the "old," including the ruins of a temple dedicated to Hercules. The visual metaphors abound: old, new, Obama's "Herculean" task of winning the presidency, etc.

*Obama will take a walk through the Temple of Hercules with two senators who accompanied him to Iraq and Afghanistan, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.)

Another OT:

Apple stock prices fell 8% yesterday. The published stories ahve a lot of mumbo-jumbo about dissapointing profits and stuff, which is all BS. The real reason for the price drop is cause CEO Steve Jobs is looking very, and I mean very thin and shakey these days.

Just one of those things that makes one wonder...

When the price was 2.00 bucks a gallon they got ten percent of it. Now that it's 4.00 bucks a gallon, they need to raise the tax to keep up. Maybe '3 wood' can explain the logic behind that.

There are plenty of slums on the South Side too. Woodlawn, just south of Hyde Park, was a war zone for decades. North Kenwood, above 47th Street, also. West of Washington Park, parallel with Hyde Park; heck, Hyde Park itself almost went to hell in the early '50s, and only stabilized because the University decided not to leave. Even with the University (and its second police force) there, there were plenty of rough patches until the mid-80s or later.

South Shore, where Michelle Obama grew up, went down the tubes when she was about 5 and became a gang-ridden hellhole. It has only begun coming back in the last 10-15 years.

Video: Giuliani on Obama and the surge

Watch as Rudy laughs off the idiotic drivel from MSNBC tool David Gregory,

Gregory: “But let’s take on this argument a little bit, because Mr. Mayor, as you know, Senator McCain has effectively chalked up Obama’s position on Iraq to naivete. That he has effectively called for surrender, and yet by sticking to the idea of a 16-month phased withdrawal from Iraq that has ultimately been validated by the Iraqi Prime Minister, hasn’t that effectively refuted that argument?”

Giuliani: “Of course not. You wouldn’t be there if the surge didn’t work — unless, he wanted to pull out the troops in the midst of chaos. Unless, you wanted to create civil war in Iraq. These are the facts that Senator Obama ignored a year ago. It now turns out that had you not had the surge, either we would be in a much worse situation in Iraq or as the Democrats and Harry Reid and Obama wanted to do, we would have declared we lost and pulled out.”

Jobs didn't have the usual type ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas (which apparently actor Patrick Swayze has).

That tumor is not only nearly uniformly lethal, the time from diagnosis to demise is usually measured in months.

Jobs had (or may still have) a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas, which is a much rarer tumor with a significantly better prognosis.

If I was a fanatical Packers fan I'd be pissed. Brett just needs to hang up his cleats. Not linger like Namath, Montana, etc...

Cornerbacks all over the league are hoping Favre will come back.

The velocity drop off this past year was significant, you could break on his out-routes and get them now.

re: #223 buzzsawmonkey

All true. Just think that tourists confuse Chicago and New York, which can make for an interesting trip to visit the West Side. Nothing was like the parent's first sight of Chicago's 5th Avenue in the 1970's.

Or in the case of my mom, 17 days.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Cases like that are not uncommon. I know someone who literally passed within 72 hours of diagnosis. This was a few years back, but my own aunt died of pancreatic cancer six months after the diagnosis was made.

With Jobs, its possible that his gaunt appearance is the result of the surgery he had for his tumor, not necessarily recurrent disease.

He probably had a "Whipple" procedure, which is a complicated surgery that removes part of the duodenum, part of the stomach and part (or all) of the pancreas.

Besides having a very high complication rate by itself, persons who undergo that procedure often lose weight afterwards, in part because of loss of digestive function of the pancreas, and in part because of lack of insulin.

I hate taxes as muich as the next guy, but to tell you the truth I make a living from money out of the Highway Trust Fund. Our highway infrastructure is in a big need of repair, I think McCain's idea of freezing the gas tax is a disaster for this country. That tax money is needed to keep our highways operating.

My point is that rather than raise taxes, use some of the tax dollars they plan to waste on pet pork projects to repair the infrastructure. If they took all the money they wasted and applied it to the things they should, there would be no need to raise taxes for about 50 years.

I figure about six weeks into the season, Urlacher will be sitting out with a neck brace.
The Bears passed on Brady Quinn, when he came out of Notre Dame.
He was around until the 22nd pick!
Guess they felt that there was no quarterback controversy. Thats true, you need quarterbacks for that.
If Brett just says the word, I'll drive down & pick him up & deliver to Lovie Smith.

We always need a QB.

But we also need an entire offensive line, 4 competant receivers, a running back, two safeties who can hit, a linebacker and a DT.

I take the Bears for 6 and 10 this year.

And I'll bet they're still better than the Lions this year.

I haven't been much of a fan for a long time, but that game reminded me why that is. That was the most appalling loss I have ever seen. I was all for firing the coach right then and there.
The real problem seems to be the owner, tho. As long as Bidwell has them, there will not be back to back winning seasons. Hell, most of their fans would settle for one winning season.

Obama's Magic Unicorn Tour...

Democrat Barack Obama’s entire traveling campaign apparatus is in place. He will speak Thursday at an historic site in Berlin that could draw tens of thousands of spectators. And chief campaign strategist David Axelrod might even assemble film crews to gather footage of it, possibly for a TV commercial.

“It is not going to be a political speech,” said a senior foreign policy adviser, who spoke to reporters on background. “When the president of the United States goes and gives a speech, it is not a political speech or a political rally.

“But he is not president of the United States,” a reporter reminded the adviser.

“He is going to talk about the issues as an individual … not as a candidate, but as an individual, as a senator,” the adviser added.

Yet, a campaign aide at the briefing said the Berlin speech “is not for campaign purposes.”

Got that? It's not a political campaign speech. They're just filming it for a TV commercial.

Well he IS and INFIDEL after all.

Ooh, not true at all.

The RoP claims Jesus as a major prophet...a rasul.

Nasty, ignorant Christians lied to Mo about Issa/Jesus' message, and mixed a lot of superstitious podunk into it.

It fell to Mo via Alan to restore what Alan REALLY wanted to say in the first place.

When Issa returns, he will be in Mo's posse.

They're all at it - his advisers speak already of him as the President - he speaks of himself as the Commander-in-Chief, it reminds me of a weird, New Age psycho set-up, where you're told you can achieve what you want if you tell yourself that you already have (or summink like that ...)

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Khawaja openly hated West, former fiancée testifies

OTTAWA – Momin Khawaja’s former fiancée says she never considered him an “extremist” but hoped to re-channel his anger toward the west after they got married.

“I thought I would marry him and change him,” Zeba Khan, 28, told court today in a video link-up from Dubai where she lives with her husband.

Yeah, were have I heard that one before...?

Under Obambi's energy plan the roads won't need much fixing since they'll only have to support pedestrians and cyclists. Electric powered cars won't crowd the roads since you need to make the electricity and the Dhimmis will ban new coal fired plants and refuse to go nuclear. Just saw the infamous New Yorker cover at the grocery store. It has a dainty little flap covering the offending image, kind of like the brown paper bag thingy. Wondering if this was its original form? Anyone know?

Erm, by chance would this "dainty little flap" be the same thing that we normally call a "subscription card"? Nothing at all unusual about newsstand editions of magazines having some sort of in-house advertisement (encouraging subscriptions, or promoting the publication's website) wrapped around the front cover.

Save the picture to your computer (right click and save as)
Download it to photobucket.
click on link at photobucket (where your picture is)
click on the right icon (to the right of comments on lgf)
put your link there.
name it
post it

For heaven's sake, if "Big Steve" already had a Photobucket account, or for that matter had even heard of Photobucket, he wouldn't have needed to ask his question.

Also, just to be pedantic, you "download" from a website to your computer. If it's in the other direction -- like copying a photo that's on your computer to a website such as photobucket.com, that's "uploading."

Anyway, Big Steve, you can go to photobucket.com to create a free account for storing pictures online. It's pretty easy to use, but if you have questions, you can ask in any busy LGF thread and you'll find dozens of people familiar with Photobucket and willing to help.

Also, by the way, there are many image-hosting websites besides Photobucket, most of them also free of charge. Personally, I find Photobucket to be satisfactory for my limited needs, but other people might be able to recommend sites that are better than Photobucket for certain purposes.

Heh-heh! If you look at the linked Reuters picture, just to the left of the Obama sketch you can see the black-and-white photo that the artist worked from. Needless to say, there's no dove in the original snapshot -- just BHO apparently wagging his finger for emphasis.
