Palestinians Eating Their Own

Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 8:41:31 am PDT

Hamas and Fatah are killing each other again: Hamas hunts down Fatah rivals after Gaza blast.

GAZA CITY (AFP) - Hamas-run security forces stormed across Gaza on Saturday, clashing with rival Palestinian gunmen and arresting dozens of people after a bomb killed five of its senior militants and a little girl.

The explosion late on Friday near a beach outside Gaza City was the deadliest incident in weeks in the impoverished Palestinian territory which has been ruled by the Islamist Hamas movement for more than a year.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately known but Hamas blamed Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas’s rival Fatah movement, accusing it of collaborating with Israel to undermine the Islamist movement.

“The Fatah movement is behind this reprehensible crime,” senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya told a crowd of thousands of supporters and other senior leaders at a funeral for those killed.

“Those who carried out this crime are making war on God, on the security of Gaza, and on the resistance,” he said. “They will not be released after six months but will be hanged from the gallows and shot.”

Museum in Gaza to display area's rich cultural history

Hm... Actually not a bad thing the museum. The guy seems OK.

Quotes from the article:

"The idea is to show our deep roots from many cultures in Gaza," Khoudary said as he sat in the lush, antiquities-filled garden of his Gaza City home a few miles from the museum. "It's important that people realize we had a good civilization in the past. Israel has legitimacy from its history. We do too."

Khoudary's collection includes thousands of items, but some of the most extraordinary of them will not go on display just now, including a statue of a full-breasted Aphrodite in a diaphanous gown, images of other ancient deities and oil lamps with Jewish menorahs on them.

Asked why, Khoudary noted Hamas's rule and the conservative piety of the population and said simply: "I want my project to succeed."

Khoudary said he had visited the Israel Museum and hoped that one day some of the Gaza collection could come back to Gaza "after we have a qualified government and the capability to protect the heritage of Gaza."

This is a man who thinks that Israel has legitimacy, that (real) history is important, and that oil lamps with Jewish menorahs are a part of Gaza's history. He doesn't trust the Hamas government and hopes that one day Gaza will have a "qualified government".

And he is willing to say so.

If Israel's Arab neighbours and Israel's Arabs were people like him, there wouldn't be a war.

re: #41 ploome hineni

on Obama's Germany speech

This is really very good, so I comment again.

In all these phrases — and many more — there is always something missing: human beings. It was not a “shadow” that spread across Eastern Europe in 1945. It was an army. Nor is it “materials” and “secrets” that build bombs — it is bomb-makers. It was not “networks” that struck in Madrid and London and the rest. It was terrorists acting in the name of Islam.

But our very own zombie figured out the trick already - never name the actual perps. OK, why not? Cuz it's considered high art to hate the game but not the players, hate the sin but save the sinner. OTOH, this is only principle - practice says you have to own up, name names, make restitution, to receive absolution, to fix the problem.

Somebody send Obama the guidelines for AA or some other twelve-step program, and get him to read all the way down the list.

65 samsgran1948  Sat, Jul 26, 2008 9:58:39am

The medieval English punishment for treason was to be hung, drawn and quartered. The culprit was allowed to dangle at the end of the rope until he was judged close to death, then cut down. Next he was tied down to a hurdle, his belly sliced open, his guts removed and burnt in front of him. The miscreant would still be alive at this point. He was finished off by having his hands and feet lashed to four separate horses who were made to run in four separate directions, thus tearing the culprit into four pieces and finally killing him.

I would assume the Palis are planning to slowly hang the Fatah guys, then cut them down and shoot them. (I assume the Hamastanis have failed to study British history so are ignorant of the proper procedure.)/ Yes, a little sarcasm there at the end.

re: #65 samsgran1948

Minor quibble: The miscreant's entrails were dropped on a brazier while they were still attached to him. Then, finally, he was beheaded, his body was cut into four pieces and tarred, and the pieces were sent to four separate places as a warning of the fate that awaited traitors. The head went up on a spike near the city gates.

That's one of the things that Braveheart got right.

AFAIK, the four-horse method took up too much space, and the authorities generally wanted as much of an audience as they could get.

That method of execution was on the British books until 1870; the last people to be sentenced to that fate were some Welsh separatists in 1867 (the sentence was commuted).

I doubt it was Fatah. I suspect these guys.. "

Salafi Jihadists in Gaza: Compared to us Hamas is Islam-lite"

Indeed, Abu Mustafa says, he and his comrades in arms realize they need to be patient. There's a long way to go before they can begin their struggle for global influence. First, they have to take care of an enemy closer to home: Hamas.

So far, Hamas has done what it can to keep the Salafis under control. They know the ultra-radicals are just waiting to take over Hamas' position of leadership. "They are traitors," Abu Mustafa says of Hamas. "Compared to us, they are Islamism lite."

...His explanation is clear. "For many people in Gaza, Hamas embodied the promise of a good, Islamic lifestyle," Abu Mustafa says. But once the group seized power in the Gaza Strip over a year ago, many were disappointed. Of the 10 defectors who call him everyday, many of them are Hamas fighters, he claims. "These are tough men and they have insider knowledge. They will be very useful should it come to a power struggle."

As far as I am concerned, all of Islam is making war on God (the Holy One), but I had no plans to go and kill them for it... I was letting Him take care of it Himself. The problem for me came when they began once again, out of umpteen times in history, making war on me and mine. Yes, people in Washington and New York are mine, much different as we are in lifestyle and philosophy. I do not take their deaths and pain and sorrow lightly; on the contrary, I take it as if the enemy had inflicted it upon my own blood.

I will never forget, I will never forgive, I will never surrender, I will never submit. Never. In my view, they are all evil. All. They are simply acting on their inherent evil in varying degrees.

Their culture, their society, and their religion all infect and indoctrinate them into evil from the day they are born, and it is a miracle when they choose NOT to act on it. There is nothing good in Islam, there is nothing worthwhile in Islam, and there is no good person in Islam because of those facts. There is only evil behind every face, and the will to act on it or not.

Let them kill each other. Surround and contain them without mercy, and let them do as their own natures dictate, but only to each other.

re: #65 samsgran1948

The medieval English punishment for treason was to be hung, drawn and quartered. The culprit was allowed to dangle at the end of the rope until he was judged close to death, then cut down. Next he was tied down to a hurdle, his belly sliced open, his guts removed and burnt in front of him. The miscreant would still be alive at this point. He was finished off by having his hands and feet lashed to four separate horses who were made to run in four separate directions, thus tearing the culprit into four pieces and finally killing him.

Good Lord! And we thought the Muslims were barbarians!

Humanity has always been barbarous. A sad and unescapable fact, dear lady. It's just that Western Civilization has mostly grown out of it.

Why the rest of the Arab world puts up with these clowns is beyond me. These people are so intolerant to even people within their own creed, their own culture and their own religion who just happen to disagree with them on a few issues, that they want them dead. These are the idiots that the Israelis have to put up with. Why can't the Arab world understand this and why do they consistently sympathize with these imbeciles?

99 marjoriemoon  Sat, Jul 26, 2008 12:07:45pm

There was another story here. Charles may have posted it.

On July 10, Hamas "arrested" Fatah members (al-Aqsa Brigade) for firing rockets from Gaza into Israel during the ceasefire. While some took that to mean that Hamas was policing terrorists acts,

"The firing (of rockets) endangers the ceasefire. This is an attempt to disrupt the truce and not a response to Israeli actions," Hamas officials said.

the reality is that they use the ceasefire to reorganize and rearm themselves.

I don't know the politics of Gaza from the Arab POV (I'm certain Israel does). Certainly Hamas had their coup and basically took over the region, but obviously those who support Fatah are still there.

From the above article is this:

The group [Hamas] issued a call to the Palestinian organizations to confine responses to incidents in the West Bank to the region, and not retaliate from Gaza.

So... that means if you must attack, even during the "truce", then do it in East Jerusalem? So much for talk about ceasefire.

Anyway, there's more to this than meets the eye and I think it spells more trouble than good. Was it indeed a Fatah attack? Or did Hamas make it look that way? There is no real justice in this city so we'll never really know. I do worry that if Hamas topples Fatah, the situation would deteriorate quicker in the entire region.

There is a power struggle between the two groups, Fatah and Hamas. It has always been that way. As awful as the PLO was in the days of Arafat, they even had their dissenters who thought Arafat was too weak, if one can even imagine that! That is Hamas today.

That's why I said above, we don't know the real politics between them and I think it matters, because Hamas is more vicious, more lawless than the other.

Golly, [bigoted word]s killing [bigoted word]s - and this is a bad thing, how?

#103 Ploome,

Seems to me the problem is sociological/anthropological. Those societies that are led by strongmen have an entrenched, organized military class that keeps the honcho in power. The Gaza arabs are tribal and fragmented into factions and warlords, with no professional army as such.

An Israeli-born friend's son, in the SF area, who I have known since he was 3...and is now 48, sent this. It is beautiful to watch, but sadly, I do not think that any of us, or our kids, or our grandchildren, or their children's children will ever see it become reality, through no fault of Israel's: Valley of Peace....because the arabs do not want peace; they want to see all the Jews in pieces.

Golly, terrorists killing terrrorists, only libs could be saddened by such losses when they should be out killing evil Jooos and neocons.

However, this attack brought another one in Gaza to mind. I believe it was around two years ago when there was another beach attack, but in that instance the pfakistinians falsely claimed an Israeli naval craft indiscriminately fired on a beach party of pure innocent pfakistinians, allegedly causing death or injury to even a minor child. Since this is a repeat, but no Israelis were even close to the area, Hamass must now claim it's rival Fatahss did the dastardly deed. In my view, since Hamass and Fatahss are interchangeable, they are both responsible for these attacks. the fact that senior terrorists are now room temp is a good start. The fact that two years ago Fatahss and Hamass did the same thing is cause for resurrecting our policy of not dealing with these terrorists until they start behaving like semi civilized human beings instead of the brutal commie murderers they are.

I think it shows that Islam is like Communism, it will eventually eat its own. Muslim governments, like Communists, are constantly executing their own people. And not just the common criminal, but those who become the enemy of those in power, and, as with Communism, enemies must be created to maintain the enthusiasm for the hate of the other. Think the Muslim tradition of stoning the devil as the Muslim 2 Minute Hate. The constant executions and disapearances the equivalent of the struggle between those in power and those out of power.

re: #79 calcajun

You know what is scary is that we here in the west are not that far removed from this type of political violence. I can easily see where it could happen here if one party or the other steps up the vitriolic rhetoric after it loses a key election, or two, and its "base" resorts to this in frustration. It's possible, though not probable.

Should Obama, not win in November, expect "racism" to be shouted from the roof tops. Expect riots as well.
