Zombie: The Mosque in Denver's Civic Center

Tue, Aug 26, 2008 at 6:26:01 pm PDT

I first arrived in Denver's Civic Center Park expecting to see hordes of anarchists and protesters. Instead, I was confronted with...

IMG_4621.JPG

...this huge mosque made of translucent fabric.

IMG_4611.JPG

It was put together by a group called "Pictures of You," which is (according to its flier) part of The Manjushri Project.

IMG_4613.JPG

The mosque is composed of photographic portraits of Iranians which can be viewed from either side. For some reason, a preponderance of the portraits depicted attractive young Iranian women. I wonder why.

IMG_4616.JPG

"Pictures of You" handed out fliers with a quote by the Sufi poet Rumi, whom they said was their inspiration. The lines in Rumi's poem are addressed to "you," and the Manjushri Project folks want us to believe that "you" means the reader, but of course Rumi was actually addressing God. But in this "it's all about me!" modern world we inhabit, the marketing team (correctly) calculated that Americans would think Rumi was addressing them personally.

IMG_4618.JPG

The purpose of the exhibit was "transparently" to arouse sympathy for the Iranian people and discourage any US military action aimed at stopping the Iranian government from getting a nuclear bomb. Or so it seemed to me.

IMG_4615.JPG

And it's a great bonus to have an excuse to plop a big mosque in the center of Denver, temporary though it might be.

Secret Agent Z
(with apologies to Johnny Rivers)

Z’s a spook who leads a life of danger.
To everyone it meets, it stays a stranger.
With every move it makes,
A hundred pics it takes,
And they’ll be up on zombietime, tomorrow.

Secret agent Z!
Secret agent Z!
They’re sending you to Denver;
We salute your bravery!

Flying into Denver airport, Sunday;
Surrounded by the riot squad on Monday.
Beware the pepper spray!
You’d better get away,
For there’ll be more freaks on display, tomorrow.

Secret agent Z!
Secret agent Z!
Your mission: go to Denver,
Infiltrate the DNC.

Blogging from the Kos Tent with Dan Rather;
Z, don’t waste your time on moonbat blather!
Proceed with covert ops,
Watch out for mounted cops,
And transmit all the intel you can gather.

Secret agent Z!
Secret agent Z!
You case the streets of Denver,
Under cloak of secrecy.

Anarchists and communists uniting;
Z finds photo-subterfuge exciting!
Though Denver’s far away
From San Francisco Bay,
Beneath the airport, sanctuary’s waiting.

Secret agent Z!
Secret agent Z!
You fight for King and Country.

Putting a pretty face on Iran? Or are they calling it Persia these days.

Nothing takes away from the fact that Ahmadinejad and the mad mullahs are in charge and wouldn't mind putting to death those women who show as much skin as that; those people who are homosexual; or the infidel in general.

The Iranian government repeatedly demands that Israel cease to exist and plots to do just that. It supports international terrorists and uses terrorist groups as its proxy army to fight the West - the US and Israel in particular, but whose minions are and continue to stir up trouble in Iraq.

About us....

For example, we plan to show the exhibit at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, at a NASCAR event, and at select state fairs. Many viewers will simply happen upon the show without having heard about it. My intention is to reach a broad audience, and to evoke an unfiltered response to the photography.

For me, Americans' response to the installation will be the real point of the show. Many Americans have strong feelings and intuitions about Iran, and many of their ideas have developed in an environment tainted by ignorance and suspicion. While Americans are free to learn about Iran and engage in informed debate about foreign policy, so many of them choose not to use those very freedoms that millions of Iranians long for. I hope that the show will ultimately transcend the issue of Iranian/American relations. It will illustrate how Americans exercise their freedoms and privileges— including the privilege to remain uninformed about other nations and cultures without suffering any significant consequences.

I'm still not sure about the Suffi support for the Shia Mullahs of Iran.

Anger Management
When you occasionally have a really bad day, and you just need to take it out on someone,
don't take it out on someone you know, take it out on someone you don't know, but you know deserves it.
I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I'd forgotten to make. I found the number and dialed it.
A man answered, saying 'Hello.' I politely said, 'This is Chris. Could I please speak with Robyn Carter?'
Suddenly a manic voice yelled out in my ear 'Get the right f***ing number!' and the phone was slammed down on me.
I couldn't believe that anyone could be so rude.
When I tracked down Robyn 's correct number to call her, I found that I had accidentally transposed the last two digits.
After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again.
When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled 'You're an asshole!' and hung up.
I wrote his number down with the word 'asshole' next to it, and put it in my desk drawer.
Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day, I'd call him up and yell,
'You're an asshole!' It always cheered me up.
When Caller ID was introduced, I thought my therapeutic 'asshole' calling would have to stop.
So, I called his number and said, 'Hi, this is John Smith from the telephone company.
I'm calling to see if you're familiar with our Caller ID Program?'
He yelled 'NO!' and slammed down the phone. I quickly called him back and said,
'That's because you're an asshole!' and hung up.

One day I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking Spot.
Some guy in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for.
I hit the horn and yelled that I'd been waiting for that spot, but the idiot ignored me.
I noticed a 'For Sale ' sign in his back window, so I wrote down his number.
A couple of days later, right after calling the first asshole (By now, I had his number on speed dial,) I thought that I'd better call the BMW asshole, too.
I said, 'Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?'
He said, 'Yes, it is.'
I then asked, 'Can you tell me where I can see it?'
He said, 'Yes, I live at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax .
It's a yellow ranch style house and the car's parked right out in front.'
I asked, 'What's your name?'
He said, 'My name is Don Hansen,'
I asked, 'When's a good time to catch you, Don?'
He said, 'I'm home every evening after five.'
I said, 'Listen, Don, can I tell you something?'
He said, 'Yes?'
I said, 'Don, you're an asshole!' Then I hung up, and added his number to my speed dial, too.
continued

42 maddogg  Tue, Aug 26, 2008 6:37:40pm

Now, when I had a problem, I had two assholes to call.
Then I came up with an idea... I called asshole #1.
He said, 'Hello.'
I said, 'You're an asshole!' (But I didn't hang up.)

He asked, 'Are you still there?'
I said, 'Yeah!'
He screamed, 'Stop calling me,'
I said, 'Make me,'
He asked, 'Who are you?'
I said, 'My name is Don Hansen.'
He said, 'Yeah? Where do you live?'
I said, 'Asshole, I live at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax , a yellow ranch style home and I have a black Beamer parked in front.'
He said, 'I'm coming over right now, Don. And you had better start saying your prayers.'
I said, 'Yeah, like I'm really scared, asshole,' and hung up.
Then I called Asshole #2.
He said, 'Hello?'
I said, 'Hello, asshole,'
He yelled, 'If I ever find out who you are...'
I said, 'You'll what?'
He exclaimed, 'I'll kick your ass,'
I answered, 'Well, asshole, here's your chance. I'm coming over right now.'
Then I hung up and immediately called the police, saying that I lived at 34 Oaktree Blvd , in Fairfax , and that I was on my way over there to kill my gay lover.
Then I called Channel 7 News about the gang war going down in Oaktree Blvd in Fairfax .
I quickly got into my car and headed over to Fairfax . I got there just in time to watch two assholes beating the crap out of each other in front of six cop cars, an overhead news helicopter
and surrounded by a news crew.
NOW I feel much better.
Anger management really does work.

The High Country Citizens Alliance, a key oppositional force against the mine, launched a new fundraising initiative in the fall of 2007, including “Red Hot Ladies,” a calendar featuring portraits of HCCA activists, or “red ladies.” With the support of the Manjushri Project, Tom Loughlin completed all of the photography for the calendar. Sales of the calendar raised thousands of dollars for the anti-mining effort.

Sympathy for the Iranian people does not preclude any US military action aimed at stopping the Iranian government from getting a nuclear bomb.

Excellent point.

In fact, it is because of my sympathy for the Iranian people that I support taking out their hellish and oppressive masters.

Okay, that isn't the main reason. The main reason is that they threaten Israel and America. I take "Death to America" rather personally.

It isn't really that unbelivable. The head dem is a a unwinnable choice. Obama had polling problems long before he picked biden for veep. I still think hillary will pull a fast one, but it is looking like that won't happen. Now that would be political history. I'd love to see Hill go to the podium in about a hour and say something like "I'm still in this. Lets have a floor vote. Obama can't win. I can. Choose wisely."

That tent with the portrait on it is brought to you by the same people who killed rioting to prove the point that they are so determined to convince that they do not worship Mohammed that they insist that no one makes any image of him or any other person and doing so is such an offense that countries should tremble in fear and apologize if any of theor foolish citizens commit such an offense. On the other hand it was all just a gag and they can do anything they want.

So say the apologists for the Islamic memorial at the site of the 911 Pennsylvania plane crash, who try to insist that the crescent isn't "really" a mosque because it is 1.8 degrees off.

And I am sure that every single mosque in the world, even those built ages ago, are precise to less than 1 degree in their orientations. /sarc

Democrats declare independence.....

We hold these changes to be self-changing , that all changes are changing equal, that they are changed by their Changer with certain changeable changes, that among these are Change, change and the pursuit of change. That to secure these changes, Governments are instituted among Changelings, deriving their just changes from the change of the change, That whenever any Form of Change becomes destructive of these changes, it is the Right of the Changers to change or to change it, and to change new change, changing its change on such change and organizing its change in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their change and changiness. Change, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient change; and accordingly all change hath shewn, that changelings are more disposed to change, while changes are changeable, than to change themselves by changing the changes to which they are changed. But when a long train of changes and usurpations, changing invariably the same Change evinces a change to change them under absolute Change, it is their right, it is theirchaneg, to throw off such Change, and to provide new Change for their future change.

I agree with you. I also think this divergence of opinions on Obama between Bill and Hillary is contrived. I think they're both playing mutually agreed upon scripted roles. Hillary has to be seen as throwing her support behind Obama, while Bill can still be seen as resistant and resentful toward Obama. I think what Bill is saying is closer to what they're both feeling.

The empty-suit governor of Moonbattachusetts, whose whole solution was to have casinos, but was off getting a book deal when the bill came up in the legistlature, so it lost.
He's an incompetent empty suit. Perfect example for Obama.

On Fox News, they said that Warner's speech was moved earlier in the evening, and Deval Patrick's was moved later, because Warner refused to attack McCain, but Patrick would.

Can't you just feel the unity coming off this convention? :)

THIS is the best he could do?

In three sets of unscripted and sometimes rambling remarks Tuesday, Biden thanked God that one of his audiences was overwhelmingly female, called Michelle Obama’s convention speech “the most remarkable speech I have heard in my life” and predicted it would propel him and running mate Barack Obama to victory in the fall.

Now that is some serious brown nosing!

Obama speech stage resembles ancient Greek temple

DENVER (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor. [Like magic! - ed]

Bull.

Charles said it wasn't deemed newsworthy the 'mainstream' media, and that's wrong. Sorry.

And I'm sorry Tim Russert himself hasn't descended from the clouds to satisfy the apparently ever-climbing standard of 'mainstream,' but I suspect most of Denver's citizens will survive by reading their lowly, despicable, hardly-worth-mentioning newspaper with quotes and context.

re: #114 Walter L. Newton

And they are going to plug in WHAT? How the hell are you going to make all that electricity. No windmills in my backyard. No solar arrays in my backyard. No nuclear in my backyard. No, no, no, no, no.

Windmills kill bats, nuclear produces waste, solar arrays will heat the earth.

For every alternative energy source we could have, some moonbat special interests don't like it.

What the fuck do you want use to do? Jump off the face of the planet.

Actually, yes. The entire point of the environmental movement is not to save the Earth for Man, but to save it from Man.

Technological civilization evolved to fill needs that humans could not fulfill by natural means; we can't chase down our food like lions because we are slow and don't have claws, so we invented spears, bows, arrows, guns- and agriculture. (James Burke's two books, Connections and The Day The Universe Changed, are wonderful guides to how such things happened- and incidentally, are just plain fun to read.) It has been our technology that has allowed the growth of the human race to a level where its extinction is unlikely (the break-even point is about 4-5 billion people, according to Fred Hoyle in 1967), and also allows many of us the leisure to do other things besides work our fingers to the bone in fields from sunup to sundown just to have enough to eat. That also gave rise to democracy, and put paid to the older methods of rulership, like monarchy, where the guy with the biggest muscles gave the orders. (And everyone else took them or else.)

And that is exactly what the "ecologists" resent. They see themselves as an enlightened elite, like most "progressives". The difference is, while most of the Kosling crowd would like to rule over the rest of us like nobles in medieval France, the "ecos" want to have the entire world to themselves, sans technology, sans civilization, and incidentally sans the rest of us.

They do not realize that it is the very culture they so despise, and wish to destroy (by starving it of energy) that makes their comfortable lives of constantly browbeating the rest of us possible- without that culture, in the "state of nature" they ostensibly yearn for, they would die quickly, as most do not possess even rudimentary survival skills. (Ask one to start a fire without matches, or how to tell poisonous plants from ones that are safe to eat, sometime, and you'll see what I mean.) They are "hothouse flowers" which have been nurtured in our comfortable bosom, and our schools, and like the discontented aesthetes in most radical movements (as defined by Eric Hoffer in The True Believer) they are not poor enough to have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. So they have the leisure to both resent the rest of us, and organize to act up in ways intended to feed that resentment, and their own (colossal) egos.

Yes, they are hypocrites. Which is why they fit in so well in the political circles the frequent. Whether "far left" or "far right". they always side with other malcontents who seek the destruction of what, as H. Beam Piper said, they "do not understand and wouldn't like if they did understand it"- namely, civilization as a whole.

For real fun, ask one this question: "Once you've abolished our 'evil' civilization, what will you replace it with?"

The answers tell you all you need to know, as they are generally breathtaking in their naivete'- and savagery.

cheers

re: #284 ciaospirit

Everybody should go listen to tonight's show. It's free at Levin's website. He really gets to the bottom of Michelle Obama's speech last night. She attributed a couple of lines to her hubby that were taken straight out of Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals." She quotes it two or three times...the bit about the world as it is and the world as it should be. And follows with that's why she and Barack are here today and that's why they love this country. Communist talking points!

i listened this evening. mark is spot on.
they are communists thru and thru. it's in their blood now, after all this indoctrination. stunning that she quotes "rules for radicals" so openly at this event.
this is why they reiterate the b.s. gibberish that "america is not what it could be" and why they, in fact, are not proud of their country.

It's not actually a mosque. That's one little detail that's being overlooked here.

It's based on "typical Persian home," with the usual octagonal architecture, although I'd say it's a typical of an affluent Iranian, not the average.

re: #75 maddogg

I really DID do something similar back in the 70's.
Some jerk called my place and my "significant other"
answered the phone. The guy was calling from California
but had dialed the wrong number. My squeeze politely advised him of this but he decided to get "playful" asking her name etc. When she said "look, I'm not interested here I have things I have to do" this guy called her a "F'ing C*nt !" and slammed the phone down in her ear. Not being used to this kind of verbal abuse, she became very upset and explained it all to me almost in tears. I freaked. I could think of nothing else but how to get even with this virtual stranger on the opposite coast. After about 15 minutes of brooding I asked her "do you remember who he asked for ?". She thought on it for a second or two and said "yes, I remember, he asked for "Marvin" - I remember now because I've only known one "Marvin" in my entire life (which consisted of all of 21 years at this time !). We still lived in our small hometown just outside NYC. I thought to myself that most likely he got the area code and exchange correct but made the dialing error in the last 4 numbers - therefore I concluded, Marvin most likely lived right in our town. So, I asked about this sole Marvin she knew and followed up in her HS year book for his last name. Once she confirmed this was the guy I looked up his phone number and gave "Marvin" a call.Turned out Marvin still lived at home with mom/dad and siblings - his younger bro. answered the call. he told me Marvin was not at home but "can I take a message ?".I said "no, no - that's ok, I was just calling to get a phone number from him - one of our HS buddies lives out in California and I was supposed to call him but, alas, I misplaced the number". Little bro. chimed right in -"Oh, that's Jimmy, he just called for my bro. Marvin about 15 minutes ago !". I retorted "yes, I know we were all talking about getting together, that's why I wanted to call him- would Marvin have Jimmy's number written down somewhere there ?". He says 'hold on". I hear paper shuffling and then "Yup, here it is - 555- 656- 0000". I says "great, tell Jimmy that John called and I'll call him back later - thanks so much kid !" and hung up. Now - I have "Jimmy's" name, phone number and within a few more minutes, I had his home address !
BWAAAaaaHHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHAAAAAAA !
I call "Jimmy" and he answers. I sez "Hi Jimmy, you don't know me but I KNOW YOU. I KNOW where you LIVE... He comes back with "Hey, who the hell is this ?". I sez "Jimmy, did you just call my girlfriend and call her a F'n C*nt ?" in my deepest, darkest most threatening voice. He was a little cocky at first until it started dawning on him - don't forget this is the mid 70's, pre anything like #69, caller ID etc. - and I could sense his brain coming to the realization that I must be really connected somehow to pull off what I had just did within 20 minutes of his call to our place ! I must admit, I can do a combination Pesci/DeNiro that can be quite convincing ! Not knowing the statute of limitations on such matters I will not go into detail the rest of my message to him but suffice it to say, I think he avoided
standing close to any of his windows for a month or two after our electronic "get together". My gal was on the 2nd line in the bedroom just listening in - she felt her honor was upheld and said after we hung up "Good Lord !You had him p*ssing in his PANTS ! That was GREAT ! I was proud of myself for days after !
100% true story.

How bigoted of a Sufi poet to even THINK of addressing God, rather than the Cosmically Creative Individual! Who do these blatantly racist Sufis think they are, anyway?! They're obviously part of the evil right wing consp ... uh, what? ... Oh, they're not WASP Christians? ... Well, uh, never mind.

No Submission, my thoughts exactly. Pictorial references of humans are violations of sharia law. Indeed, the further question that needs asking is whether Mr. Whitebeard is supposed to represent the prophet Mohamet? If he is and this gets circulated to the muslim community in Denver, watch the fireworks start. The whole thing would get burned down by the ROP faster than Bolt winning Olympic records.

389 Land Shark  Wed, Aug 27, 2008 7:59:14am

The MSM probably thinks the mosque is very multicultural and inclusive and it promotes diversity and tolerance and peace so they don't see anything wrong with it. Actually, what I have read is that the majority of the Iranian people hate their government. Our conflict is with the whacko government (surprise only those "approved" can run for office). I think Ahmadinejad will be defeated from within (hopefully with our support). Most Iranians (I think more than 70%) have been born SINCE 1979 revolution. They want satellite dishes, MTV, Fox News and CNN. In fact, a cleric called for the Iranians to defeat Ahmadinejad in next elections bcs he's taking Iran into disaster. They are already an economic train-wreck.
