Who's Behind Anti-Palin Smear Site?

Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 10:57:26 am PDT

Suddenly appearing among the Google search results for “sarah palin gay,” a web site titled: Sarah Palin Supports Gay Rights.

Sarah Palin (GOV-Alaska-Republican), supports gay rights, says Anchorage Daily News.

Quote “Gov. Sarah Palin vetoed a bill Thursday that sought to block the state from giving public employee benefits such as health insurance to same-sex couples.”

Quote “”It is the Governor’s intention to work with the legislature and to give the people of Alaska an opportunity to express their wishes and intentions whether these benefits should continue,“ the statement from Palin’s administration said.”

Coghill said he’s interested in a new plan that would allow state employees to designate one person — maybe a same-sex partner, but also possibly a family member or roommate — who would be eligible for state-paid benefits. But the employee would have to pay to add that person to his or her benefits.“

Sarah Palin’s veto gave gays the same rights as married couples in Alaska.

A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for gay marriage.

Interesting. There’s nothing else on the page. This sure looks like the work of the dastardly right-wing anti-gay attack machine, doesn’t it?

But look who’s really behind this.

In the Linux console, if you enter the following commands, you can learn the secrets of a political dirty trick. First, look up the host of ‘sarahpalingayrights.com’ to get the site’s IP address.

host sarahpalingayrights.com
sarahpalingayrights.com has address 74.208.74.232

Then use the same command to look up the domain name pointer of that IP address.

host 74.208.74.232
232.74.208.74.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer obamadefense.com

Well, well. “Obamadefense.com,” eh?

And what happens if you enter obamadefense.com on your browser’s address line?

Why, you’re redirected to none other than FightTheSmears.com, the official Barack Obama site that’s supposed to be defending him against smears.

Looks like they may have a second purpose: to generate a few smears of their own.

(Hat tip: sk.)

UPDATE at 8/30/08 11:14:12 am:

Here’s another site that traces back to obamadefense.com: ObamaTaxCut.com.

UPDATE at 8/30/08 11:24:46 am:

Two more web sites that share the IP address of obamadefense.com:

John McCain opposes the new GI Bill, but why?
John McCain Prefers War

UPDATE at 8/30/08 12:39:29 pm:

Please note that this is not proof that the Obama campaign is behind this deceptive web site; that’s why the title ends with a question mark. But it’s definitely not what it seems.

UPDATE at 8/30/08 2:16:54 pm:

There is apparently no connection between these attack sites and the official Obama campaign; to get to the bottom of it I emailed the owner of an associated site, and here’s his reply:

I run ObamaTaxCut.com, or actually alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut

I think the person who registered the domain and forwarded traffic to it also owns/ran ObamaDefense.com — this used to be a separate site with short defenses of various factually inaccurate charges against Obama during the primary, but the owner changed it to redirect to Obama’s site after the campaign made one themselves.

UPDATE at 8/30/08 3:20:31 pm:

One last comment on this: the point still stands that it’s more than a little slimy to be a supporter of the “progressive” campaign of Barack Obama, then turn around and use Sarah Palin’s pro-gay rights positions against her in a creepy anonymous web site (that suddenly turns up highly placed on Google).

But this is one area in which Palin could actually appeal to many disgruntled Hilary supporters—so anything goes in the wonderful, tolerant world of the left.

UPDATE at 8/30/08 7:14:27 pm:

The ‘sarahpalingayrights.com’ site is now being redirected to Wikipedia.

UPDATE at 8/30/08 8:51:01 pm:

And now it’s being redirected to ObamaTaxCut.com.

"Okay team, we've tried to bash McCains age (he's "confused") , didn't work. Tried to minimize his military hero status (Wesley Clark/ Jimmy Carter), didn't work. Tried to tie him to Bush, didn't work.
So, what can we make up about Palin?"

20 Perplexed  Sat, Aug 30, 2008 11:04:01am

The 'rats are running scared. Neither Obamessaih nor Biden have any executive experience. Palin, on the other hand does have executive experience, knows the difference between right and wrong, hates government wasting tax payer funds, understands which end of the weapon the round exits, probably enjoys reading Kill it and Grill it (might even have been a contributor). In short she's a big threat to obambi's road show.

21 Yo Mama So Fatwah  Sat, Aug 30, 2008 11:04:08am

For the first time in months, McCain is ahead of them. He has spoiled their big party and has the initiative. Oh, and there won't be any ads run on TV congratulating McCain for being candidate after the GOP Convention. They lack good manners.

This is definitely a switch from Katrina, though where and when the storm hits is still up in the air. The storm track could still change, but most models are showing a central/west-central LA hit.

Parts of NOLA are above sea level; other parts aren't. Levees were built to extend the areas that are usable; decisions made decades ago. Now, we've come to learn that the levees were never as strong or as high as they should have been because of design and manufacturing defects.

The new strengthened levees suffer from similar problems. And they wont protect from a direct hit from a Katrina storm in any event - NOLA got a glancing blow from Katrina; it was the backside of the storm that sent water up the canals and caused their failures from seepage, not overtopping.

The levies and dikes failed when the pumps lost power. The levies and dikes failed when the water rose over the top. The levies and dikes failed when water undercut them.

There is also a case to be made that those levees were leaking well before Katrina, and because there were no fewer than 5 entities responsible for different parts of the system, no one could figure out who, exactly, was responsible for the leaks, and so they just continued to leak.

The levee breaches were a disaster waiting to happen, and I think it would have happened sooner or later even without Katrina. The fact that so many evacuated before Katrina actually resulted in lives saved that otherwise would not have been.

New Orleans wasn't always below sea level, but it was built on Mississippi delta river mud that is sinking slowly into the Gulf.

The real long term issue is that the Mississippi River periodically changes its channel, and has been trying to change channels for the past hundred years. That would leave New Orleans high and dry, well away from the new mouth of the river, which would emerge into the Gulf further west.

The Corps of Engineers has spent billions of taxpayer dollars on dams upstream to prevent the channel change, but over time has been losing the battle. The question is whether and when a new New Orleans should be constructed at the new mouth of the river, and the river industries move with it.

The old New Orleans could remain a sentimental favorite resort destination until finally swallowed by the Gulf.

Now they're scrambling and scrabbling to invent a negative narrative for her that won't boomerang. Way to get inside their OODA loop, John McCain.

I think one of the big things that is coming into play is that the Obamabots had planned for about everyone under the sun - except Sarah Palin.

And to add insult to injury, they spent 10 days or so jerking people around over the infamous text message, to the point where everyone was getting annoyed, and then they flubbed it anyway. Mac,meanwhile, said from the get go that he would announce his pick on August 29 and on August 29 he announced his pick - while managing to keep his choice top secret until just an hour or so before the announcement. This has to be the best blog post I've read so far about Palin. From The New Nixon:

...when President McKinley was assassinated in 1901, there were more than a few people who were worried when his “inexperienced,” “unpredictable,” “headstrong” Vice-President, the man to whom Mark Hanna referred, put his hand on the Bible and took the oath of office. Before I give the name of this fellow (as Ms. Desmone, despite her apparent familiarity with Hanna’s quote, neglected to do), let’s look over his background and compare it to Palin’s:

He had spent a lot of time on the frontier, and, like Palin, was a moose hunter (or, as they say north of the lower 48, a caribou hunter).

Like Palin, he had served for years as an appointee on commissions in the public sector, and had made his name there as a determined reformer.

Like Palin, when chosen to be the Republican vice-presidential nominee he was a sitting governor who had served less than two years in that position. The only previous electoral office he had held was that of New York state assemblyman, where he served a few years, much as Palin served a few years as mayor of her hometown before seeking statewide office. Again like Palin, his selection to the vice-presidential spot on the ticket was greeted with relief by various entrenched old-guard elements of his party in his native state who had not cared for his commitment to transparency in governmental practice.

Like Palin he had a reputation for being straight-shooting and plain-spoken, and many marveled that a person of his temperament could rise as high in political life as he did.

Like Palin he was devoted to his family of four sons and two daughters.

When tragedy made him our nation’s Chief Executive in 1901, few knew what to expect.

His face is on Mount Rushmore, alongside Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln. In surveys conducted among American historians to rank our greatest Presidents, he has always placed somewhere between third and seventh, alongside those three, Andrew Jackson and his cousin Franklin....

A reminder: the complete famous quote by Senator Mark Hanna about McKinley's choice of TR was, "Doesn't anybody know there's only one heartbeat between that damned cowboy and the Presidency of the United States?"

Doing a little free research. From DNS Stuff's search, we get:

For complete domain details go to:
http://who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?D omain=SARAHPALINGAYRIGHTS.COM

So, enter that URL, so go down, and we get the admin contact. I won't post the address here, as that's not nice.

But, go drop that address into a reverse address lookup (411.com) and you get:

Hendrix, Suzanne
Job title: President
Company:
Details Contract Furnishings

Scottsdale, AZ 85260-2581

Now, do the same for obamadefense.com gives the same street address.

From CNN's Blog's, there is a poster there saying this Suzanne is a Republican. I'll end research there while I try to figure out more.

This deserves more attention.

Media Matters (of all places)

AP falsely suggests Palin supports benefits for same-sex partners of state employees

Summary: The Associated Press reported that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin "opposes gay marriage -- constitutionally banned in Alaska before her time -- but exercised a veto that essentially granted benefits to gay state employees and their partners." However, the AP did not note that Palin stated that she vetoed the bill because the Alaska attorney general had advised her that it was unconstitutional, not because she believed same-sex partners of public employees should receive benefits.

They also passed a bill that sought to block the state from granting public employee benefits to same-sex couples. The measure was vetoed by Republican Gov. Sarah Palin because the attorney general said it was unconstitutional. However, she has voiced support for the constitutional amendment.

Whether you agree with same-sex marriage, benefits, yada yada, or not, a McCain/Palin administration is obviously NOT automatically a vote for gay marriage. However, an Obamessiah/St.Greasy Joe ticket IS a vote for skulduggery and lies.

This was Barrys epiphany that like Malcom, he despised his White Blood.
The goof wrote it in his book.

His mother was a radical, not just a girl from Kansas. His mentor (father figure?) in Hawaii Davis. From his own book his (Marxist) fathers ideals where a driving force.

It goes on, and on. And it's all red through and through.

re: #228 calcajun

OT, but apart from me, anyone have any family and/or loved ones down there?

My folks are in NO and they're evac-ing today. I have not been able to get any solid data on the storm re the pressure (which will give an idea how big the surge will be) or how big. It's slated to hit the Houma/Morgan City/Lafayette area, but NO is to the east, where all the wind and water will be. If it's a small, fast moving storm, then NOLA might be spared anymore damage. If it grows and is big--like Katrina--then it's going to have the potential for another disaster.

Well, I'm actually here (in BR, will also be to the east of the storm track). "Suzette" is near Lake Charles, and "Saberry" is near Lafayette, and on last night's thread, he was packing to leave.

I'm sure there are others; I just happen to know about myself and these other two.

Did it sink much since then?

Maybe not because of oil:
[Link: www.nwrc.usgs.gov...]

Most of the land surface of the New Orleans Metropolitan
Statistical Area (MSA), a region that includes all or parts of seven parishes, is sinking or “subsiding” relative to mean sea level. Subsidence of the land surface
in the New Orleans region is also attributed to the drainage and oxidation of organic soils (Earle, 1975), aquifer-system compaction related to ground-water withdrawals (Kazmann, 1988), natural compaction and dewatering of surficial sediments (Gosselink, 1984), and tectonic activity (geosynclinal downwarping and movement along growth faults) (Howell, 1960; Jones, 1975)

IOW, voodoo.

Weapons found in raid in St Paul and Minneapolis today. A couple of notes:
Leftist St Paul city council member Dave Thune is supporting these people.
In the comments, someone linked to LGF (not me).

Weapons and devices to disable buses - among other items - were found in searches in the Twin Cities last night and today by Ramsey County sheriff's deputies.
Authorities said the items came from "key members of the RNC Welcoming Committee," a self-described anarchist group.
Five people have been arrested and four properties have been searched, according to the sheriff's office.
At 8 a.m. today, the sheriff's office executed search warrants at three Minneapolis homes - 2301 23rd Ave. S., 3500 Harriet Ave. and 3240 17th Ave. S. They were assisted by the FBI, Minneapolis police and the Hennepin County sheriff's office.
"The 'Welcoming Committee' is a criminal enterprise made up of 35 anarchists who are intent on committing criminal acts before and during the Republican National Convention," said Sheriff Bob Fletcher in a statement. "These acts include tactics to blockade and disable delegate buses, breaching venue security and injuring police officers. They have recruited assistance in their criminal conspiracy from other anarchists groups throughout the country. Through their plans and actions they have exhibited a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others."
The statement said the items found in the searches included:

• materials to creating "sleeping dragons" (PVC pipe, chicken wire, duct tape), which is when protesters lock themselves together
• large amounts of urine, including three to five gallon buckets of urine
• wrist rockets
• a machete, hatchet and several throwing knives
• a gas mask and filter
• empty glass bottles
• rags
• flammable liquids
• homemade caltrops (devises used to disable buses in roads)
• metal pipes
• axes
• bolt cutters
• sledge hammers
• repelling equipment
• Kryptonite locks
• empty plastic buckets cut and made into shields
• material for protective padding
• an Army helmet.
The five people being held at the Hennepin County jail are under arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to riot, conspiracy to commit civil disorder and conspiracy to damage property.
Arrested at the 17th Avenue home were Monica Rachel Bicking, 23, Erin Chase Trimmer, 23, and Garrett Scott Fitzgerald, 25, Nestor said.
Nathanel David Secor, 26,was arrested at the 23rd Avenue South home.
Erik Charles Oseland, 21, was arrested an undisclosed location, the sheriff's office said.

I'm in agreement with those who point out that using gay rights support as a smear against Republicans just shows that Dems exploit gays for political ends and do not really care about gay rights.

I am a card carrying Republican, straight, and I support gay rights. I worked for two years in AIDS hospice.

Frankly, I don't really care much one way or the other about gay "marriage" but I support some sort of civil union agreement that will confer property rights to gay couples.

None of this is going to make me think twice about my vote which is for the general welfare of the country. So National Security and the economy will always come first. I won't vote for a party or against it over this issue, which is a states rights concern.

BTW, I became a card carrying Republican after 9-11.

I voted for Clinton. The first time, anyway.

As for Sarah Palin: if I were Hillary Clinton, I would be apoplectic. Really. There is nothing that won't convince me that Hillary not getting the nod had more to do with her vagina than anything else. Progressive liberal men often aren't.

The extraordinarily sexist comments about Palin spewing from the typewriters of liberal/progressives, especially those expecting this wife and mother to go home and take care of the kids which is what I thought her husband was for, is so typical, so appalling, and so...what can I say. Disappointing.

I can't say I was real happy to hear a lot of nonsense about Hillary's appearance, either. Her face and figure: a non-issue.

Sometimes I think many liberal men are just poseurs who pretend to like women in hopes of getting laid. I'm not seeing a big difference between woman hate from the extreme left, and woman hate from the extreme right.

Semi OT

Someone left this comment on the BBC news website "Have your say" spot, re Sarah Palin:

Added: Saturday, 30 August, 2008, 18:49 GMT 19:49 UK
I think I've figured it out from the comments here:

If one isn't from a large urban centre and doesn't follow the leftwing line of the Euro-elite, then one is an idiot. Once you understand that, you don't have to think anymore. Life is then easy.

Sarah Palin is none of the above, so she is an idiot. That's why is OK to make sexist comments against her, as many are doing here.

Do I have it right?

I look forward to all Euro-snob heads exploding when Sarah becomes President in 2012

I'm in agreement with those who point out that using gay rights support as a smear against Republicans just shows that Dems exploit gays for political ends and do not really care about gay rights.

They also practice the same hypocrisy with racial politics. They are the party of identity politics and use it to further a bigger (socialized) government approach to domestic affairs.

Yes, if the RNC is looking for material for the campaign, Barack's own books are rich pickin's. They are filled with hatred and racist rhetoric. The man has Daddy issues, and hates his own white blood, and he says so, in his own words. Now, all those things are fine for an appearance on Dr. Phil, but that is not what he is auditioning for.

I
As for Sarah Palin: if I were Hillary Clinton, I would be apoplectic.

I have to think it had more to do with having Bill anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. There is no way that I would want to have a narcissistic control freak ex-president anywhere near me if I am BHO. Besides, I think Michelle hates her and--justifiably--doesn't trust her.

But I agree with the MSM hypocrisy that's spewing forth. They do not get that many people see through the nonsense and see their partisanship, despite claims of "objectivity"

Speaking of Palin and Creationism, I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but here is a site that says she may not be anti-evolution:

[Link: historicalpresent.net...]

The marine biologist and critic of creationism Wesley R. Elsberry seems to have a perspective on Sarah Palin’s support for creationism that’s similar to mine:

Palin’s responses there indicate that she has bought into the “fairness argument” from the antievolution advocates.… I think this is primarily an issue of a candidate who hasn’t bothered to find out what’s going on, and who doesn’t know about the antievolution movement’s dependence upon falsehoods, misrepresentations, and underhanded strategies to pass off narrow religious views as if they were scientific information.

and

Wired Science is reporting that “McCain’s VP Wants Creationism Taught in School.” As far as I can tell, though, Sarah Palin has only made a few vague statements about creationism. She’s certainly sympathetic, but not in any way that makes her stand out among American social conservatives.

The Wired Science post is based upon an Anchorage Daily News article, “‘Creation science’ enters the race,” reporting on a debate between Palin and two other candidates for governor of Alaska in 2006.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night’s televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, “Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.”

Anyway, I thought I'd pass this info on and see how it shakes out.

Cognito, the funny thing is that the same obamadefense.com, as Charles established, is associated with web sites (e.g. mccainwar.com, mccainfailure.com) that are surely anti-McCain. These sites even have the same look as the Palin smear site. So the theme, whether from the "right" or "left," seems to be anti-McCain. A McCain operative who was play a double game (trying to tar Obama by linking him to a smear) would not be associated with these other sites, or so I would think.

Happily, the lizards, maybe with some help from elsewhere, will uncover the likely truth.

Whats interesting about the 3 websites is that the source code is identical through to the header content. Same meta keywords on all 3

meta name="keywords" content="John McCain, Troops, War, Iraq, Election 2008, GI Bill, McCain Support"

And share the same first lines as the 'Fight the Smears' sites source code.
This indicates to me the same (lazy) author of the code.

They're pushing these sites out without care. From the mccainfailure.com site:

From the Palin one:

Just letting you all know I e-mailed him inviting to stay in my house (8 miles from the coast) while the storm comes in, that is provided he is still able to walk his portly ass up the driveway.

If he does show up send his fat ass to the beach. Michael Moore's planetary girth will prevent the tide from coming in.

re: #384 calcajun

You and I both know that it's about ideology, not race. However, it's inevitable that some will see his failure as a result of his black skin, not his red politics.

His own party and campaign is already trying to paint it that way - one is racist if one does not vote for the Obamessiah. Lock up the African-American vote. That's part and parcel of the racial identity politics they have played with the history of their party and segregation - and the desire to gain votes via entitlements and ensuring that the entitlements are needed as much as they can.

Obama's challenges have almost nothing to do with his race with one exception - Rev. Wright and his Church. He and his wife's embracing of Rev Wright and the reverse racism that Wright preaches says a lot about their position on race and who the racists are.

The mother had issues when she went to high school on Mercer Island.
She was very anti -establisment. She was an in your face atheist.
Apparently she had a small cadre of very antisocial friends

Yep, mommy didn't care about marriage or motherhood she said, then gets married and has a kid, shocking her friends- gee what a surprise- not- liberal loons often say one thing and do another!

I added a question mark to the title, because it's possible that the owner of obamadefense.com is redirecting to the Obama FighttheSmears site, without being officially connected to it. Looks really really fishy, though.

re: #360 sattv4u2

sorry, I just don't see it that way. I see a woman just quietly standing there waiting

It's not the most beautiful picture, but I agree. I don't think Drudge would purposefully try to make her look bad anyway. That's my hypothesis, at any rate. I think people can be a little bit sensitive sometimes because the MSM often does present conservatives in ugly pictures while they present liberals in more glamorous shots.

I admit I don't know a lot about the anti-evolution people and their tactics. But I tend to be sympathetic any parent whose kids is taught things at school which go against what the parent teaches at home.

And I am pretty much an atheist.

We're following LGF's tracking of ObamaDefense.com's to official site called FighttheSmears.com, but are not sophisticated enough to find IP Address via "Linux console" in Google Web Site entitled "Sarah Palin Supports Gay Rights". In latter site, how may we find and access "Linux console" to cross-reference IP Address 74.208.74.232? We ask, because basic LGF techniques appear invaluable. Thanks for help!

I don't think so. Site is ugly. No cool logo like the others. Clearly states it's not part of the Obama campaign.

By the time that he was 6 or so she had married Saetoro and had given birth to his sister. There is a picture of the four of them together.

He was sent back to Grandma by the age of 10 or so.

There is absolutely no evidence that Obama's mother ever legally married his (purported) father.

Just a hunch, the tax cut site was the first. It was created by Zach the physics nerd. Cool math and box stuff, low on graphics. The other sites were created by Zach the cinematographer. See link at #352.

I don't know about deceptive but it seems very very shady. The IP address and domain are owned by "Domains by Proxy" who sole purpose is to hide the owners identity.

Domains By Proxy® was conceived to deal with one of the biggest shortcomings of the Internet — the loss of privacy. We believe you should be able to keep your personal information private when you register a domain -- and now you can, by switching your “public” registration to a “private” one, using our patented private registration process.

They are hiding intentionally. Is this ethical?

Here are some test results I got on the ObamaTaxCut.com site.
Testing as a single-no-dependent tax payer, the calculations seem to render out unreliable and spotty outputs:
