Unless you live in Arizona. Why don't they have daylight savings? Better yet, why do some counties in Indianapolis not have daylight savings?

Yes. I'm glad we're back to standard time. I really detest daylight savings time. Especially since it was extended.

Unless you live in Arizona. Why don't they have daylight savings? Better yet, why do some counties in Indianapolis not have daylight savings?

In Indiana, it's because those counties basically sit on the border between Eastern and Central. They simply shift who they line up with.

In Arizona, it's because they have this delightful habit of flipping the bird at the federal government from time to time.

McCain (R-AZ) '08!

Daylight savings saves the nation 1% of its energy costs per year, I think.

Someone is getting rich off that and needs to be taxed.

15 yesandno  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 10:38:03am

Wish I could turn them back a couple of days............so we could not only beat Obama on Tuesday, but trounce him as well.

re: #9 victor_yugo

Addendum: In Indiana, some counties don't change. Then, when the other counties around them change their clocks, the counties in eastern Indiana line up with either EST (like now) or CDT (before today).

It does work out, I promise.

17 J.S.  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 10:38:10am

In considering the suppression of the video evidence by the L.A. Times, I think a "new" standard has now been set. What this means is the following -- anyone possessing damning evidence of X which one wishes to remain "top secret" need only submit said evidence to the L.A. Times and then further claim that "ya don't wanna have it revealed to the public." This appears to be a method even safer than any government agency (government agencies being famously known for their "leaks" to the press). So, once again, anyone out there with incrminating evidence (re: Obama) be sure to ship it off to the L.A. Times for suppression. The information will be locked up tighter than at any vault. Yeah, "The LA Times re-defines what it means to be a 'journalist' in the 21st Century." Way to go, L.A. times!

Daylight savings saves the nation 1% of its energy costs per year, I think.

But it costs us more than that in lost productivity and health care, due to disrupted sleep cycles, and not just when we lose an hour going to DST.

The hate mail continues to pour in from fans of Robert Spencer. Just received:

Looking over the content of this site, one would first assume this was a
conservative site. But after reading Friday night open, it is obvious
that LGF is just another fascist website. Fascism by definition, a
political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti)
that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands
for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader,
severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of
opposition. This is exactly how this site is run. It is a shame that
you fascists claim to be conservative when in fact your forcible
suppression on anyone that doesn’t agree with your views is
blacklisted. Yet you claim to be against the fascist/liberal party all
the while using the same exact tactics. You would make Hilter proud by
the tactics used to suppress any dissenting opinion. What is next? You
going to claim it’s your right to remove/block anyone not agreeing
with your views all the while suppressing the rights of others? I would
paste this on the blog but due to your fascist suppression of ideas.
One can’t register. It is a sad, pathetic day when the self
claimed conservatives at this site deny freedom of speech or expression
just as the libs do without as much as allowing any rebuttal from those
you deem threatening or racist. Your PC is sickening and at best you,
Charles, have become the very thing you allege to be against. Feel free
to post this to your blog, although I doubt you will.

I don't think he likes me.

Was at coffee with a friend this morning. She is not politically savvy at all. I was talking to her, letting her know how afraid I am about a possible super majority for the Democrats. She looked at me and said "I was thinking the other night about Obama and his speech before the baseball game. I thought what a waste of money and is this how he will act with our money if he is president?" I was relieved she saw through it. If she did, surely others have as well.

**NOTICE TO ANYONE WHO HAS RECENTLY CANCELED THEIR LOS ANGELES TIMES SUBSCRIPTION**BEWARE**BEWARE**

My family reduced our LA Times subscription to Sundays only about 6 months ago (for obvious reasons), however, once the Rashid Khalidi malfeasance emerged, we last week decided to cancel our subscription completely. Well, imagine our surprise (NOT!) when another LA Times Sunday edition showed up on our driveway this morning. My wife called and was put on the phone with a "specialist" WHO CLAIMED THAT WE HAD ORDERED A NEW SUBSCRIPTION AS OF TODAY. My wife responded in no uncertain terms that we had canceled. Period. The specialist replied asking, "Well, are you sure nobody else in your household ordered a new subscription?". My wife replied "Absolutely not & we would never even consider receiving the LA Times as long as it continues such dishonest and underhanded practices." The "specialist" conceded that there was nothing he could do to change my wife's mind (well, DUH). The point is that the LA Times will do anything, no matter how unethical, whether news-oriented or subscriber-oriented. They are power mad, narcissistic pseudo-journalist clowns who want to patronize us all, because, you know, we're so inferior. All I can say is: Caveat Emptor! And when you find yourselves in the same situation, be sure to call and let those bastards know exactly why you want nothing more to do with them. Amen.

After nearly a decade of planning, researchers will begin recruiting pregnant women in January for an ambitious nationwide study that will follow more than 100,000 children from before birth until age 21.

The goal of the federally financed project, the National Children’s Study, is to gain a better understanding of the effects of a wide array of factors on children’s health.

“What we are doing is bold and needs to be bold in order to answer some pressing questions,” said the study’s director, Dr. Peter C. Scheidt, a pediatrician on the staff of the child-health division of the National Institutes of Health.

Investigators hope to find explanations for the rising rates of premature births, childhood obesity, cancer, autism, endocrine disorders and behavioral problems. To that end, they will examine factors like genetics and child rearing, geography, exposure to chemicals, nutrition and pollution.

While few quarrel with the goal, some experts worry that the expansive project will take resources away from smaller and more focused perinatal and pediatric research, particularly when budgets are certain to be strained by the financial crisis. The total cost is estimated to be $2.7 billion.

Participating mothers and children (fathers will be encouraged but not required to take part) will be given periodic interviews and questionnaires. They will further be asked to submit samples of blood, urine and hair. Air, water and dust from their environments will also be sampled and tested.

“Something like this has never been done in this country,” said a principal investigator for the study, Dr. Philip J. Landrigan, professor and chairman of community and preventive medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan. “It’s past time for us to do this.”

Studies of comparable size and scope are under way in Britain, Denmark and Norway.

Conceived during the Clinton administration and authorized by the Children’s Health Act of 2000, the National Children’s Study is being led by a group of federal agencies. Besides the health institutes, they are the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Education.

Daylight savings saves the nation 1% of its energy costs per year, I think.

From Wiki, so it might be true:

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation concluded in 1975 that DST might reduce the country's electricity usage by 1% during March and April, but the National Bureau of Standards reviewed the DOT study in 1976 and found no significant savings

2007 study found that the earlier start to DST that year had little or no effect on electricity consumption in California

A 2008 study examined billing data in Indiana before and after it adopted DST in 2006, and concluded that DST increased residential electricity consumption by 1% to 4%, primarily due to extra afternoon cooling.

I bought a router for my home computer that requires me to hook it to my modem at home to establish a connection before it can work wireless. The only problem is my modem (provided by my cable people) only has one ethernet jack in the back and it needs two to establish the connection. Should I be looking for a new router or a new modem from my cable company?

Seems odd. What router do you have?

What happened vis a vis Robert Spencer, and when?

It would seem that he has thrown in with the apologists over at BJ at GoV and given that long-winded apologist we all know as Fjordman a pass on his desire to link up with European nationalists to fight the Islamic invasion.

There are more details than that, but you can find them in previous threads. Mostly on Friday IIRC.

You plug the router to the cable modem. Then you plug all the PC's into the router.

By which I mean, whether Democrat cheating and manipulation is really "good" enough that it's not even actually an election anymore, just a show.

All this early voting has concerned me, because the Dems can determine how many votes they need where..... and just make sure those votes materialize, one way or another.

Certainly the media will help them in any way necessary.

They had the MSM and the polls the last two times and still they lost.

In terms of the writer's understanding of the words (and definitions) used in the comment it is a farce.

Somehow leftoids lack any conception of the reality of how a blog site that is as popular and envied as LGF must work.

That - while understandable on the background of what happened before and during WWII - was by no means 'peaceful' or 'supervised' - and that was it for me.

Just stumbled acorss an idea to shaer. I have been on the phones calling OH. Lots of hangups and "fuck off" s but I keep dialing. Anyway I I struck a conversation with an undecided. I asked her if I could send her an email. She did not want me to have her email address because she did not want to get spammed. I told her I totally understood.

I setup a temp email acct at Gmail for her. I used Vote08(her last name) password Vote08. I then sent her the link to BO saying he wants to bankrupt the coal industry. In the email I told her to make up her own mind but the country needs her vote.

15 minutes later my phone rang. She used caller ID to call me back. She said she was voting for McCain. Her father worked in the coal mines and died there. She was mortified at BOs audacity to shut down an industry.

I went back to my calls. Ten minutes later an email popped up. She cc'd me on her email. She sent out the link to her entire address book with the Vote McCain in big letters.

It took me over 20 minutes to win one vote but it was worth it. Back to dialing!

Hi Folks,

I mentioned my 97 year old grandmother and her possible vote a few days ago. (She is a real firecracker of a woman, still able to keep up with anyone 60 years her junior.) Anyways, she has voted in every election for the last 80 years and has NEVER voted anything than straight Democrat. There was a good chance she was going to vote for McCain, which has our entire family abuzz.

Well, she let my Dad know that she voted early and voted for the Democrat. In her own words, "I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Communist, so I voted for the Democrat, or the closest thing to a Democrat, John McCain."

God Bless her, if she can see through the facade of "The One" anyone can. You can bet she is not the only one in her "home" doing so. (She is not exactly known for keeping her opinions to herself, nor are her neighbors. They tend to all do things as a group.) Incidently, she is from South Milwaukee, (Cudahy actually), Wisconsin... a supposed strong hold of "The One".

This is not over by a long shot folks!

All it takes is one idiot - frustrated or jubilant support - and there will be a stampede. I have never thought that a crowd is a safe place to be.

I really like the last TIPP poll: [Link: www.ibdeditorials.com...] .

Not because it confirms what I believe (I really do not know what to believe about polls at the moment), but because it makes more sense in its internals, especially regarding sex/gender, party affiliation (slightly more Democrats voting for McCain than Republicans voting for Obama), and religion.

That is strictly for adding a wireless access point to your network.

If you want to have a mix, wired and wireless, like mine, then you need to have a router with wired connections as well, like the WRT54G. What you have is fine if all of your networked computers have wireless (802.11b/g) capability.

Question for Charles:

Within the past day or so, I posted a link in LinkViewer. I don't even remember what the subject was (exposing a Kossack's vile opinion or tactic, perhaps?), but I do remember knowing it wouldn't be well received by lizards even though I thought they'd want to know ... so I put the word "(Ducking)" in the comment box and prepared myself for possible negative ratings. However, now the link is gone entirely.

I'm not complaining, it's fine with me, but it'd help to know what the subject was so as not to revisit it in the future.

Do you remember? Is there a list of deleted links somewhere I could have checked? I check my link ratings from time to time to see if my finds are well received or ignored, just to know if my efforts are worthwhile. If some are not, there's no point in me wasting anyone else's time.

Thanks for any guidance.

As a fully disabled (thus unhire-able, apparently) person, I have loads of free time to review blogs and share what I find here in hopes that spreading links (other than the cool scientific ones) will help defeat Obama and his plans for the destruction of my wonderful country. Having guidelines would help me do that most efficiently inasmuch as I have no greater goal at the moment.

201 zombie  Sun, Nov 2, 2008 11:27:47am

Various banned LGFers and sundry leftists have come on to my zomblog comments section to attack me for having created a jpeg of the Weather Underground logo and the Obama logo side-by-side; and also to attack me for coming out and stating that I did so to influence the "not-paying-attention-to-facts" electorate. Then, when I ignored their attacks, they came back on to run a victory lap and say I didn't respond because they had won the argument.

So, they compelled me to waste 10 minutes to respond in my own comments section. Which I just did thusly:

-----------

I see nothing wrong, shameful, embarrassing or discrediting about me trying to communicate visually with the kind of voters who respond to visual cues. In fact, a great deal of Obama’s campaign imagery revolves around that exact concept.

Let’s see if I can put it more clearly for you: There are many many many policy reasons to not vote for Obama in this election; and such reasons have been spelled out extensively by countless writers and analysts. I dislike his approach to foreign policy; I hate his nanny-state domestic plans; I think he will intentionally or unintentionally cripple the economy, I think he will encourage America’s enemies worldwide by being too “soft” militarily; he will promote “social justice” educational programs which are little more than indoctrination; and so on and so on. I could list reasons all day.

But if a voter at this stage of the campaign remains “undecided,” then they obviously aren’t paying attention to facts or policy statements. If you’re a leftist, you like Obama for these policies and will vote for him. If you’re not a leftist, you hate his policies and will not vote for him. And if you’re a single-issue voter (abortion/guns/etc.) you’ve already made your choice as well. After all that, who remains? Very few people. And those people are very hard to decipher — because they don’t make decisions based on hard, solid information. They apparently make their decisions on impressions, or gut feelings.

The Obama campaign, and its supporters, targets such voters directly when they depict Obama as a saint, or with a halo, or having a presidential seal, or being messianic, and so on. None of those campaign strategies are fact-based, or have any connection to reality. Such strategies exist solely to reach the “feeling”-based electorate.

So when I glue together the Weather Underground logo and the Obama logo — which, by the way, is a minor aspect of my report — I do so to appeal to the same group of voters. To put a seed of unease in their brains about Obama.

It is no different than any of the pro-Obama propaganda imagery that has been floating around for months. In fact, mine is at least based in fact, because those are in fact their logos.

What you both are saying, essentially, is: We are allowed to have non-informational propaganda imagery to promote our candidate, but you, zombie, are not allowed to produce non-informational imagery that will damage Obama’s image. When we create propaganda, it certainly doesn’t damage our credibility, for we are above criticism; but when you produce something to puncture our propaganda, it damages your credibility.

Typical double standard.

If you think I’m no longer credible because I pointed out similarities between the Weather Underground’s statements in the past, and the words and images of the modern Left (as embodied by Obama), then you are free to seek entertainment elsewhere on the Web.

Meantime, can someone explain to me why it is necessary for broadcast TV to switch to "digital," thereby rendering hundreds of TVs non-functional unless they are compatible to a special box, or hooked up to cable?

It is for the Gov't to free up the spectrum used by the current analog TV signals. There are many reasons for allocating that spectrum to other uses, including improved emergency services communication.

Analog TV as it stands right now, is a very old standard, and while it works well enough for some people, it has been showing its age for quite a while now and is due for replacement. The tricks and processing designed into current TVs just to improve the way the crappy current signal looks is reaching limits. This should have been done years ago.

I will not allow people who support violent totalitarian ideologies, Communists, neo-Nazis or others, to use my material.

In my experience, those who disapprove of Israel's right to exist are either anti-Semites or suffer from very poor judgment. Sensible people should support Israel's self-defense against Jihad. If you don't do this then I don't trust your judgment on other issues, either.

A little; didn't really like it. It's a matter of taste -- Ruby on Rails tries to do everything for you behind the scenes, which is OK if that's how you like to program. I like more fine-grained control, though, and PHP gives me that.

Looking over the content of this site, one would first assume this was a

political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti)
that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands
for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader,
severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of
opposition. This is exactly how this site is run. It is a shame that
you fascists claim to be conservative when in fact your forcible
suppression on anyone that doesn?t agree with your views is
blacklisted. Yet you claim to be against the fascist/liberal party all
the while using the same exact tactics. You would make Hilter [sic]proud by
the tactics used to suppress any dissenting opinion. What is next? You
going to claim it?s your right to remove/block anyone not agreeing

The electronics industry convinced the government it was a good idea. It wasn't a US government plan to begin with -- the govt just signed off on it.

Broadcast TV has worked fine for nearly 70 years. It continues to work fine. There actually is no real need to replace it entirely. Industry is always striving to replace old technologies with new ones, and one of the main motivations is simply to sell more stuff.

Broadcast TV has worked fine for nearly 70 years. It continues to work fine. There actually is no real need to replace it entirely. Industry is always striving to replace old technologies with new ones, and one of the main motivations is simply to sell more stuff.

CHANGE!

I've been installing a new stainless steel chimney on my mostly-solar house (I use about 2 cords of wood each winter as back-up heat) but took a peek at the "Commies want to "Price Signal" my behavior" post. So instead of going back up to finish (damn government interfering with my thinking for the moment) I had to respond. I repeat from that post:

"All the Constitution guarantees is that some God-damned bureaucracy has no authority to determine whether I ride a bike or drive a car, where I go and why I go. These are matters determined by free citizens in free markets."

"Live free or die."

They are just wrong to think they can figure out my life better than I can, and I am now going to go out and shout it from the top of my chimney.

And a Pony

Jack Tapper of ABC list all of the goodies promised by Obama in just one stump speech. The list is really staggering, even more so than the usual political BS. It is way to long to excerpt here. There are so many outrageous ones, its hard for me to even pick a favorite. But here are a few good ones:

"eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in 10 years"

Uh, right. We are going to completely eliminate half the fuel coming into the economy in 10 years.

"lower premiums" for those who already have health insurance;...
"end discrimination by insurance companies to the sick and those who need care the most";

Perfect. We are going to prevent insurance companies from dong any risk management, we are going to pile on even more "must cover" rules for all kinds of crap from acupuncture to mental health, and by doing so we are going to lower premiums.

This may be my favorite, though:

"reopen old factories, old plants, to build solar panels, and wind turbines"

LOL. Barrack is going to open some of those old GM plants in Flint, Michigan and build solar panels. Seriously, is this a rhetorical flourish or does he really believe that factories are generic production facilities that can make anything, kind of like those little buildings you make in an RTS?

Update: And if you think that voters just discount all this stuff, don't miss this video of Obama supporters talking about the free gas and house she is going to get.

By the way, none of this will push me to vote for McCain. McCain promises all kinds of crazy stuff too, its just less compelling stuff to voters. He is not losing because he is promising less -- I think he is losing because Obama has a better grasp of what expensive shit people want to be promised than does McCain.

This isn't rocket science or at least it shouldn't be rocket science. The most difficult time should be figuring out what you want and if it will work with your existing stuff. Amen. Last year, when they were studying the constitution, my older son's class was asked to write different papers about whether they agreed with the second amendment, death penalty, etc. My son answered honestly and the teacher made him Larry Craig for the mock Senate exercise. You can imagine how well that went over in a middle school environment. The principal is still apologizing to me. I wanted to sue the teacher and have him fired but my husband pointed out that the teachers' union would make sure my son got lousy grades in high school and write him lousy recommendations if we did that.

We have a superabundance of fossil fuels: oil, tar sands, shale oil, coal.

All of these are available now; the only thing which holds up using them is the Greenies who prevent our using them, and the fact that some are currently more expensive than others to access.

If we tell the Greenies to stuff it we can access the inexpensive fuels now, and access the others as they become economically feasible--and, in the meantime, continue exploration for both more fossil fuels, and for alternatives.

Amnesty International Denounces Stoning Death of 13-Year-Old Somali Girl

MOGADISHU, Somalia — A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said.

Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death Oct. 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.

May the rapists and their accomplices, the Islamic militants who stoned this child, rot in hell.

re: #456 livefreeor die

I am seriously considering homeschooling, especially if Barry wins. I need to find on-line schools that offer AP courses in math and science.

Be sure to check out your local home-schooling organizations for info. And be sure to investigate community colleges.
Here in VA, anyone over 16 can take a course. So instead of having your kid take AP chemistry, e.g., s/he can just take college chemistry, which is pretty much the same thing......or if anything, better.
Private colleges will take competent students of any age, BTW, and we've had our kids do that. But they are much more expensive.
If you want to do something on line but can't find AP courses, find out whether the kid can just take a regular college course on line.
There are many options.

• You won't have to ask your Grandparents what it was like living in the Great Depression.

• You won't have to worry about insurance anymore, as there won't be any insurance companies left after the 0bamanation declares that risk assessment is "racist".

Folks this is beyond serious -

I just posted Rock's comment on another blog, with the attribution to Rock. I want to see how many people jump all over it as racist, and then I will link to the original quote.

I think some moonbats need a little ass-reaming.

Correction = "without the attribution to Rock."

Boy has it. They need to just keep plugging along, gaining 4-5 yards a carry, and get down to field goal range.

If, as you say, you attributed it to Rock, then they'll think it's the greatest thing they ever heard.

Electioneering is usually only prohibited within a certain distance from polling places. This may be a line longer than the electioneering prohibition.

They will not do it. A very important part of the strategy of the "long march through the institutions" is to never make a sudden move, to never take a single step that in and of itself will alert people.(You don't sharply turn up the temperature of the water that you are cooking the frog in.)
It will have to wait for a more gradualist or covert approach.

Would anyone mind posting a list of youtube links that have been causing alarm?

I didn't bookmark them and I'd like to send these links to my lefty friends to please reconsider what obama changes really mean - the civilian force ... the constitution is flawed I have the behavior tax link ... and what ever else you think is necessary to open up some eyes to this slick flim flam artiste.

Has anyone posted his latest bullshit about not speaking to the press until after the election? How convenient now that the dirt is rising to the surface.

I'm not lazy, just very overwhelmed at this point and I am not functioning in a way I can be properly organized as I'm actually afraid to let my friends know I'm anti obama. thanks, annie

Prior to the start of today's NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Texas, ABC News interrupted with a 'News Update from Diane Sawyer.' The update was the latest poll results that showed most people believe Senator Obama more likely to have a good impact on the economy. Ms. Sawyer reported on another poll result that I was able to effortlessly ignore, having reached my limit of such information. Before the end of the update, I started to wonder why ABC News was compelled to have Diane Sawyer interrupt the start of a NASCAR race to tell me about poll results.
