From the previous thread:

Anybody up for solving a good mystery?

Would it help if I said it involved beer?

The only drawback is: I can't tell you what this is for. You'll have to solve it without knowing why.

Ready?

The mystery is: What are the brands of beer depicted in this photo? Especially the one on the left, which is the most visible.

The only clue I have is that this photo was likely taken in Europe -- most probably England or Eastern Europe. So the brands are likely to be from that region, though not necessarily.

Who's up to the challenge?

7 zombie  Mon, Nov 24, 2008 11:07:09pm

The can on the right may very well be ABC beer from Cambodia.

But what I'm most interested in is: What's the beer on the left?

re: #6 zombie

Here's a page with many photos of beer cans, from all over. Click the links, you'll get a page with a stack of cans. You don't have to click every link, as you'll see. Some are older, they're apparently collectible, but it might give us a company to look into further.

Excellent sites y'all have found.

As I mentioned in the last thread, I recommending downloading sitesucker from download.com. You can use it to crawl through any site and grab all of the .jpg's, .gif's, etc. They'll all get put in a folder, and then you can open them all and look through them extremely quickly.

I believe that it is one of the double-tall cans, with the holder's hand covering the bottom half of the can; and a medallion - logo branded on white dominating the top-half of the can. Green strip bordering the pull-top end from the logo-flash on the cylinder...

Without a clearer pic, zombie, it might be tough. It could be domestic, imported, microbrew- European, American. It could be a limited edition design like Octoberfest. I would search around for wholesalers/importers who might deal with a lot of european beers to see if it looks familiar to them. If they have websites, they might have links to products.

Goeterland isn't quite right. The red ribbon in the pic curves up like a smile at the ends, whiereas Goeterland's curves down like a frown. Also in the pic, there's a word with big letter right above the red ribbon. Whereas Goeterland has its big letters only within and below the ribbon.

Enraged Fundamentalists Battle Troops, Police Over Desecration Report

During a sermon today at the Mount Antioch Baptist Bible Church, the Reverend Dr. Joe Bob Yarnell called for a "Holy Crusade" in response to unconfirmed media reports that a Texas Tech coed had desecrated a Bible during a graduation party/orgy at a local fraternity house.
Enraged protestors poured from the church, overwhelmed police lines, and rampaged through a nearby neighborhood. A number of Volvos and Volkswagens were burned in the streets. Two ACLU lawyers, rushing to the scene to ensure due process for the protestors, were lynched and their bodies hung from lampposts.
The protestors then advanced toward the Texas Tech campus, gathering strength from other churches along the way. The crowd set fire to offending facilities, and battled police and hastily called-up National Guard units.
Suspected infidels were hounded through the streets and a number were caught and burned alive at hastily erected stakes in public parks.
Dozens of head-shops, record stores, and intimate apparel outlets were burned to the ground, and many other businesses were looted.
"The Bye-Bull is the sa-kerd word o' Gawd and we ain't lettin' no goddamn hippie fornicators des-ser-cate it. We got titty bars and honky-tonks for that!" declared one protestor as he torched a pile of Playboy magazines outside a looted 7-11 store.
The protest was finally quelled by airborne troops who landed by parachute near the Civic Center. At least 65 people were killed and local hospitals report hundreds of injuries.

"We are naturally sensitive to the concerns of the Christian Community and the protection of its sacred texts," declared Texas Tech president Guy Bailey during a Sunday evening press conference. "We feel their pain at this horrid allegation and we promise that the alleged graduation party incident will be fully investigated and those responsible, if any, will be punished to the fullest extent of the speech and conduct code."

If you haven't seen it already, Iowahawk does it again:

Obama Names Bill Clinton to Presidential Post
WASHINGTON DC - Ending weeks of speculation and rumors, President-Elect Barack Obama today named Bill Clinton to join his incoming administration as President of the United States, where he will head the federal government's executive branch.

"I am pleased that Bill Clinton has agreed to come out of retirement to head up this crucial post in my administration," said Obama. "He brings a lifetime of previous executive experience as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, and has worked closely with most of the members of my Cabinet."

So Obama can go back to being a, uh, community organiser type of guy.

re: #102 Smilla

I like it!

[here are some choice lines]

While the naming of Clinton appears to have momentarily calmed jittery financial markets, it sparked ripples of disapproval at liberal websites like Huffington Post and DailyKos. The progressive blogosphere was an early key source of support for Mr. Obama's candidacy, but a steady stream of Clinton-era appointees since the election has left some charging that he had betrayed his campaign promises to bring them to Washington as part of a sweeping culture of change -- a charge that Mr. Obama vehemently accepted.

"Let's face it, it's obvious I'm in way over my head here," explained Obama. "Anyone paying attention knows I am a disaster waiting to happen, and who can blame them? I mean, just look at the stock market…

"Oh, for crissakes. Are you kidding me? Are you friggin' kidding me?" asked Obama. "Of course I betrayed those godd*mned [Kos] idiots. Have any of you actually spent five minutes with them? I have, unfortunately. Nothing personal, but I wouldn't trust these internet windowlickers with a plastic spork from Taco Bell, let alone a freaking $3 trillion dollar budget global superpower. Look, I may be naive, but I'm not stupid. And if Kose or Koz or whatever the f*ck his name is thinks for one second I give a rat's ass about who he wants in charge of the Treasury Department, he's even stupider than he looks."

Here is another one. This time it is from Liberal Larry:

[It’s a spoof site so take it with a grain of salt]

Al Qaeda's number two, Ayman al Zawahri, released a video today praising Malcolm X, and slamming America as an "criminal imperialist opressor".

I know what you're thinking: he's obviously angling for a spot in President Obama's cabinet. Well, too bad, Big Al, but you blew it with that "House Negro" remark. The Democrat Party does not tolerate such racially divisive language when its directed at anyone but a Black Republican. Perhaps if Zahawri clarifies his remarks and explains that he was actually referring to Condoleeza Rice, there might be a place for him on the pulpit at Obama's church.

No Cabinet Post for Zawahri

shhh, don't tell anyone: Iran immediate threat

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Nov 24, (Agencies): Britain’s foreign policy chief said Monday that Iran’s nuclear program presents an immediate threat to the Middle East and the rest of the world.

The comments by British Foreign Secretary David Miliband come a few days after a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency said its investigation into Iran’s nuclear program was “deadlocked.” “A nuclear Iran would present a decisive blow to those seeking peaceful solutions to the region’s problems,” said Miliband....

Maybe the Euro's could try negotiating... again. Iran sure didn't seem to be that much of a problem over the past 6..7 years, now they're concerned?

Three Little Pigs

This is a true story, proving how fascinating the mind of a six year old is. They think so logically.
A teacher was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her class. She came to the part of the story where first pig was trying to gather the building materials for his home.
She read . 'and so the pig went up to the man with the wheelbarrow full of straw and said: 'Pardon me sir, but may I have some of that straw to build my house?'
The teacher paused then asked the class:
'And what do you think the man said?'
One little boy raised his hand and said very matter-of-factly ...'I think the man would have said -
'Well, I'll be damned! A talking pig!'

The teacher had to leave the room.

He finally locates the origin and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827. Then he realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with him.

By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but like the previous piece, it is being played backward.

Curious, the men agree to consult a music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is playing, again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are being played in the reverse order in which they were composed, the 9th, then the 7th, then the 5th.

By the next day the word has spread and a throng has gathered around the grave. They are all listening to the Second Symphony being played backward.

Just then the graveyard's caretaker ambles up to the group. Someone in the crowd asks him if he has an explanation for the music.

"Oh, it's nothing to worry about" says the caretaker. "He's just decomposing!"

Interesting comment I received in an e-mail.

On 12 November 2007, then-Treasurer Peter Costello warned:

"The collapse of the sub-prime US lending market which is now having reverberations around the world. And all of these things will buffet global inflation, they will buffet our economy, they will buffet exchange rates, they will affect growth and job opportunities. They will require careful management on the Budget, on tax, on structural policy, on industrial relations, on competitiveness, on investment."

(Speech 12/11/07)

I believe John Howard and Peter Costello were almost prophetic in the warnings they gave about the current economic climate. So much unlike the populist, muddle-headed bureaucrat we have for PM now.

Get ready for this:

Obama Promotes Fiscal Restraint, Big Spending

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama wants to project fiscal restraint even as his economic team assembles a massive recovery package that could cost several hundred billion dollars.

A day after introducing the captains of his economic team and promoting a giant jobs plan, Obama on Tuesday was to lay out his budget belt-tightening vision. The dual images -- big spender and disciplined budget watcher -- were designed to give both political and economic assurances to the public, the Congress and the financial markets.

My guess for the "fiscal restraint" part? Cut the military. Somehow the intellectual whiplash of trying to spend and not spend at the same tile will be lauded as "nuanced leadership" by the shills and sewer rats in the MSM. It will be seen as silly by the markets.

Meanwhile:

Venezuela's Chavez Welcomes Russian Warships

CARACAS, Venezuela — Russian warships neared Venezuela's Caribbean coast on Tuesday in a show of strength meant to send a cautionary message to the United States and showcase Moscow's ambitions of making inroads in Latin America.

The deployment of a naval squadron led by the nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great is the first of its kind in the Caribbean since the Cold War and was timed to coincide with President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Caracas — the first ever by a Russian president.

I think the timing is more designed to tell CBBHO that he is seen as a very weak sister.

I'm hearing the same things in regards to consumer credit cards. When folks start defaulting on those, the treasury won't be able to print enough money to bail out the banks. Black Friday will be a huge indicator of where this economy is heading. If spending is down significantly, get ready for a wild ride come December. Last time we had a depression, the market lost 97% of it's value. We are down roughly 40% from the 14K highs, 97% would put us under a grand.

Black Friday will be a huge indicator of where this economy is heading. If spending is down significantly, get ready for a wild ride come December. Last time we had a depression, the market lost 97% of it's value. We are down roughly 40% from the 14K highs, 97% would put us under a grand.

Could happen, but my bigger fear is hyper inflation.

I think the Obama is just going to print it like they did in post WW1 Germany and that will create double digit inflation.

Bloomberg is calculating over 7 trillion.

When this turns around, and it will, look for inflation to jump.

Yes but what people fail to realize is there isn't a printing press big enough to print the amount of money it wold take to bail out consumer credit card debt.

Cause people have withdrawn their cash from banks, which they used to fund their credit card departments. So the banks have to jack up their rates. They also don't want you using the cards cause they are afraid you will default on them and there is no collateral for credit cards for them to take.

Good Morning LGF
Well, the fat's in the fire up in the Great White North with the release of the Moon Report, which has recommended that s.13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act be repealed. This has the Canadian Jewish Congress hopping mad as it once again finds itself perversely aligned with the dark forces of Islamist censorship.

Here is the text of s.13 for those who haven't read it lately./

Canadian Human Rights Act ( R.S., 1985, c. H-6 )
Hate messages
13. (1) It is a discriminatory practice for a person or a group of persons acting in concert to communicate telephonically or to cause to be so communicated, repeatedly, in whole or in part by means of the facilities of a telecommunication undertaking within the legislative authority of Parliament, any matter that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt by reason of the fact that that person or those persons are identifiable on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.

Prohibited grounds of discrimination
3. (1) For all purposes of this Act, the prohibited grounds of discrimination are race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability and conviction for which a pardon has been granted.

re: #297 Rancher

The current mantra is "to big to fail" but unfortunately if you bail out the consumer credit card debt you have to increase the money supply. We have nearly doubled the money supply in the past 12 months. If we continue down this road, hyperinflation is a real possibility. President Obama will be asking Mugabe for a loan unless he can reign in spending and let some of these institutions fail.

From the beginning, if we had simply let these institutions fail without a bailout, there would have been a lot of pain but we'd be on the upside by now. By bailing them out, all we have done is put a cadaver on life support. I know it's hopeful when the DOW goes up 900 in two days but it's a dead cat bounce and it's coming back down. A month ago, remember talking heads on CNBC and FBN calling a bottom at 10K. No one knows what is going on and the two magicians apprentices (Bernake & Paulson) at the top running this charade really don't have a clue. It's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better and the more government intervenes, the more painful it will be.

G'day from Down Under to {everyone}

I'm a bit late for all the beer talk, but while browsing through the Australian tonight I found this fantastic job, now in the hands of a young bloke from the US

Chief Beer Officer!

IT'S the sort of job most men can only dream about: American Scott Kerkmans beat 7800 wannabes from 30 countries to land the plum role of chief beer officer -- thought to be a world first -- with Four Points by Sheraton

and.....

"It's the ultimate dream job," he admits. "Even working in the brewing world for several years, I never expected a position so great to come along. Thankfully, people love craft beer and I get to help them learn more about it."

Kerkmans, a beer judge and former head brewer, is advising on the company's newly launched Best Brews program, where he acts as a sort of roving ambassador, sharing his passion for a cleansing ale with hotel guests across the world. The Phoenix-based 28-year-old visited Australia and dropped in on Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore before heading to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

What a job! :-)

I hope Iraq can stand on its own because they won't be getting a penny under Obama. Ditto the military. What other cuts will the Dems allow? None that I can think of. Hyperinflation in a depressed economy, worse than stagflation. We may look at the Carter years as mild in comparison.

Ex-ACORN worker admits voter-registration fraud

A 34-year-old Chester man arrested last month for alleged voter-registration fraud admitted his guilt yesterday in Delaware County Court.

Jemar Barksdale, an ex-employee of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), was accused of turning in voter-registration cards for 18 already-registered voters, altering information, and forging signatures. He entered a negotiated guilty plea to charges of forgery, identity theft, and tampering with public records, said Deputy District Attorney Greg Hurchalla.

Under the terms of the agreement approved by Delaware County Court Judge Patricia Jenkins, Barksdale, who spent about a week in prison on the charges, must serve six to 23 months on house arrest, undergo a psychiatric evaluation, perform eight hours of community service, and pay $574 in restitution to ACORN, Hurchalla said.

Good morning lizards, a cold and wet morning here along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

From VRT Nieuws:

Mon 24/11/08 17:17 - Vlaams Belang supremo Filip Dewinter has filed a complaint against the video sharing site YouTube and the rap group The Cicatris. The Flemish MP is angry about a video featuring a song by The Cicatris, a West Flemish band.
Mr Dewinter claims that the lyrics of the song include death threats against him.

Do we know anything about this group?
The name of the song that has DeWinters' panties in a twist is called "Belga".

I have to go to work this morning, anyone want to dig?
I'm putting a link up top and bringing it to Charles' attention.

Media bias, part #5,872...

Check the headline on the frontpage of the Globe & Mail

Canada Bides Time, US Sets Course

The story "contrasts" Canadian PM Harper (whom the G&M and the rest of the liberal media establishment loath) as procrastinating on stimulus spending while the economic crisis worsens, with President-Elect Obama who is acting already by announcing spending programs. The G&M complains that Harper is content to wait until he tables his budget in February. Why can't he act now like Obama?

Ummm... the fact is Obama is NOT acting now, he's just talking. He can't actually do anything until he is sworn in as President on January 29th.
Then he can act. In February. Just like Harper.

BTW, saw the Mayor of Lansing, Michigan (a disinterested witness if ever there was one) saying we gotta save the big 3 cause no one will buy a car from a company in Bankruptcy! Steve Duccy(Sp? - the blonde male idiot of F and F) actually came back with a great line - "Geez, ya know twice this year I've flown on airlines that had gone bankrupt before, didn't bother me at all!".
Seriously, is the Mayor just being the Mayor or is that a reasonable fear for the big 3 - if they go bankrupt, no one will want to buy their cars?

Hey Rancher - good morning to ya - WTH is it with Bush these days - why not Libby and especially those two Border Patrol agents?!
Not to mention

One hot topic of discussion related to pardons is whether Bush might decide to issue pre-emptive pardons before he leaves office to government employees who authorized or engaged in harsh interrogations of suspected terrorists in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Some constitutional scholars and human rights groups want the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama to investigate possible war crimes.

If Bush were to pardon anyone involved, it would provide protection against criminal charges, particularly for people who were following orders or trying to protect the nation with their actions. But it would also be highly controversial.

Well hell, everything he does now (and damn near everything he's ever done) has been controversial - sooooo why not add Libby and the Border Patrol guys?

This is disturbing folks but what else can you expect for the past several years "diversity" has been shoved down their throats.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Carleton U. Drops Shinerama Fundraising
Madely in the Morning - 7:10am --- Steve Madely is joined by Carleton University journalism student, Nick Bergamini, who also sits as a representative for Journalism on the Council of the Carleton University Students Association. Nick tells us that a motion was brought forward to cancel Shinerama at the school. Shinerama is charitable event that has raised millions of dollars to fight Cystic Fibrosis over the years at Carleton, and so much more across the country.

This is the wording of the Motion (grammatical mistakes are their's)
"Motion to Drop Shinerama Fundraising Campaign from Orientation Week.
Whereas Orientation week strives to be inclusive as possible;
Whereas all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve the their diverse communities;
And Whereas Cystic fibrosis has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men.Information Transfer
Be it resolved that: CUSA discontinue its support of this campaign
Be it further resolved that that the CUSA representatives on the incoming Orientation Supervisory Board work to select a new broad reaching charity for orientation week."

And there's more. This may be more Jew bashing from these lunatics as CF is sadly a disease that affects Ashkenazi Jews.

These are the same lunatics that refused to have a Pro-Life group on their Campus last year.

Such tolerance. Such diversity.

Carleton U

Sure it will. They told them to increase their security.
There are barriers all around where we live, I don't know a specific name for them. Two big cement "risers" and a metal pole that spans them. The pole (horizontal) is down until one of the guards raises it and so it prevents a drive down the street and a blow up the car attack.

this is assuming the guards are guards and do not run away if their family is threatened.

Funny story of PC run amok... School play at my mom's school... All about the Presidents... Fun facts thrown in and all...

Oe girl got to recite the factoid that Woodrow Wilson had the Secret Service Agents paint the golf balls black so he could play in the snow in Winter... The father of the girl got hysterical and refused to have recite the 'factoid' because it was blatantly racist...

Ahhh... PC run amok...

Eric Holder (Barack Obama's choice for Attorney General), on the question of whether unlawful combatants captured in the war on terror are entitled to prisoner-of-war status under the Geneva Convention. From an interview on CNN, January 2002:

One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located; under the Geneva Convention that you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.

It seems to me that given the way in which they have conducted themselves, however, that they are not, in fact, people entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention. They are not prisoners of war. If, for instance, Mohamed Atta had survived the attack on the World Trade Center, would we now be calling him a prisoner of war? I think not. Should Zacarias Moussaoui be called a prisoner of war? Again, I think not.

Have his views on this matter changed today? Do Holder, and by extension, president-elect Obama, believe the terrorists held at Gitmo are not deserving of Geneva Conventions protections?

Real Rancher

Yea...yea, yea. They dug this guy up only because Putin's giving the Euro's his sales pitch on the Russian-Euro security & economic pact. It couldn't come at a better time either. The German's have decided they don't need to participate in solving the EU's economic crisis which could throw the entire plan into the sheeter while at the same time Russia's going after the Ukraine for gas which they've purchased and haven't yet paid - which could jeopardize gas to other EU states.

Why do you want to take the edge off espresso? That's the whole point, the taste.

Don't get me wrong, I love the taste, but Starbucks generally is more bitter (heh) than I like. Real espresso, in a tiny cup, made by an Italian is great without any additives.

Hey Ford..I cannot, for the life of me figure out how he rolled that truck there. He must have been flying in that thing. It happened on the Rt.6 2 lane 1 way coming out of P-Town just before the big lake, near the end of the Dunes. THERE IS NOTHING THERE. The "curb" is nearly level with the sand shoulder, and there is nothing else to avoid.

I know the spot. He must have sunk in the sand or something. What was he trying to avoid? There is nothing there. Unless he was trying to pass someone on the right.

761 Kenneth  Tue, Nov 25, 2008 7:03:03am

Why, despite everything, George W. Bush was right about democratization in the Middle East. by Reuel Marc Gerecht

"Political evolution will begin when Muslim men and women start voting. A basic respect for the dignity of Muslims ought to prevent Western officials from indulging the Middle East’s ruling elites, who have shown so little regard for the people below them. These autocrats offer only an illusion of progress and security. Since World War II, they have, with only a few exceptions, made their societies miserable.

The promise of Islamic democracy offers something different. It holds out the possibility that, for the first time since the early caliphs, there will be an organic, reciprocal relationship between Muslim leaders and their communities. This could end Islam’s long history of rebellious violence and redirect the faith’s unrequited struggle to produce more virtuous men. It could give Middle Eastern Muslims some of the elemental, non-threatening pride and self-confidence that Americans, the oldest modern democrats, have in spades."

just announced, consumer confidence up in november. another nobama achievement.

The *only* good thing about the Dems in power is that the media starts playing up the economy.

Real headlines: before the election, the stock market "plunged" but after, it only "dropped 2%." And housing is now "a buyer's marker" as opposed to all those stories about the bad times for sellers.

Years ago I was in a bus that rear-ended the car in front of us. The bus driver ran out of the bus and up to the driver. I could clearly hear what he said to her. After he asked her if she was alright (he didn't hit her hard at all) he burst out laughing and said he was in sooooo much trouble! He then produced a card and said, "this is who you sue."
