-RetweetEgyptian Cleric to Obama: Convert to Islam

Religion | Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 9:49:23 am PST

Egyptian cleric Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal has a message for Barack Obama: convert to Islam, or else. We’re eager for death, yadda yadda, you know the drill. (Courtesy of MEMRI TV.)

Following are excerpts from an address delivered by Egyptian cleric Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal, which aired on Al-Nas TV on November 27, 2008.

Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal: Let me take this opportunity to address the leader of Europe, and the leader of America, who is the leader of the world, the recently-elected Obama, who is the leader of the Byzantines – he is like the Byzantine leaders in the days of Prophet Muhammad.

My message to him is three-fold. First, I invite him to convert to Islam. This is the call of the Prophet and of Allah. Oh Obama – convert to Islam, and you will be saved. I hope that Allah will reward you twice: Once for converting to Islam, and another reward for all those who will convert in your footsteps. If you want glory – you will find it in Islam. If you want honor – you will find it in Islam. In religions other than Islam there is utter humiliation, even if you are the president of the entire world.

[...]

You, Obama, are among those who have pledged before Allah – Allah who created you, sustained you, and brought you to this position – to be a Muslim who believes that Allah is the one God, especially since you have some kind of roots in Islam. Convert to Islam, and you will be saved. All glory and honor lie in following Allah and His messenger Muhammad. Know that the true religion is the religion of Islam, and all other religions are fabricated religions, which are null and void – religions that were abrogated by the shari’a of Muhammad.

If you refuse to return to your [Islamic] origins, to the way Allah created you, withdraw your huge armies and military bases from the lands of the Muslims. Know that all your predecessors have ended up in the garbage bin of history, and that America’s black and bleak history in the land of the Muslims and the Arabs constitutes an evil omen for you, your predecessors, and your successors. Know, Obama, that America, with all its size and might, will know no peace, as long as a single Muslim child lacks food, drink, medicine, or housing. If you refuse, Obama, and insist on remaining in Muslim lands, know that Allah still plants in [Muslims] obedience to Him, and they are willing to wait for Paradise, which is closer than their own shoelaces.

Know, Obama, that in the lands of Islam, there are people who seek death, and are eager for it, even more than you and your people are eager for life – any kind of life, even a life of humiliation.

What has the poverty of the peoples to do with American military bases?

Ask around. Most countries whine about the US military bases but would have kitten fits if they were all closed down. Economy would plummet.

The ideologies of socialism and of islam are close in some ways. Scary close. There's the promise of free stuff --provided it can be rightiously stolen --and there's an implied promise of social equality. In socialism individuals are subservient to the state. In islam all men are slaves to allah (but females are property).

I was lucky. Here in my part of Texas quite a few of her friends (women) have concealed carry and shoot for recreation - kind of a club. She started with my grandfather's old police S&W .38, then moved on to the Glock 19 and 26.

In addition to communicating with the local air traffic control facility, aircraft are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar a ten minute "heads up" that they will be transiting Iranian airspace. This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination. This exchange was overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai.

Air Defense Radar: "Unknown aircraft at (location undisclosed), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself."

Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace."

Air Defense Radar: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!"

Aircraft: "Roger that. This is a United States Navy F-18 fighter jet. Send 'em up!"

She's a very good shot. I did hear that women tend to be good from the get-go, but then either decide they like it and keep on, or don't and give it up.

She's in the former group.

I dont care if she likes it or not. I just need her to learn how to use it.

You might have her use target rounds in the beginning. When I was learning, my husband had hollow point ammo in the little 38 cal. revolver that we had. Scared me to death with the flame and all. LOL In those days our local police let civilians come to their range and that's where we were. One of the officers gave my hubby half a box of target rounds to get me comfortable with the whole thing and I did. Finally he loaded five target rounds and one hollow point. Heh, I got a bullseye with the hollow point.

PM Harper met with the Governor General Michaelle Jean this morning. She agreed to allow Parliament to be prorogated unit January, when the Conservative gov't will table a budget. The putative coalition of Liberals, NDP & Bloc are incensed, but as we just had an election 7 weeks ago and the opposition parties all lost seats, they hardly have a mandate to form a gov't. Which is what they wanted to do.

Technically, the Queen of England is the Canadian Head of State, although in practice, that role is carried by the Governor General. The GG is appointed by the Queen after being nominated by Parliament. The current GG is Michaelle Jean, born in Haiti, immigrated to & raised in Quebec. Which means, Obama is not the first Black Head of State of a Western country, our Michaelle is.

If this is where the lectures ended, I would agree. But they do not. The institutions create boogeymen, instill victimology, then claim that they are the only ones that can save them. Possibly apocryphal story from Vietnam days.
Eager Ensign has the Bridge watch in the South China Sea when the Combat Information Center reports a large contact approaching from the North- West so that its course would cut across the bow of the destroyer and pass to port. Technical notes, the destroyer had the "right of way" under the Rules of the Road and the proper thing to do is pass to starboard if possible. When you meet an unidentified contact you have it identify itself using cryptography forms that are shared by all US ships. When you hear a given two letter code you check the time and your crypto and give the correct response. Failure to properly identify yourself in a war zone could be considered a hostile act. The contact would be expected to identify itself and then turn to port, that is turn left and pass down the destroyer's starboard, that is right, side.

The Ensign grabbed the crypto gear and keyed his radio, "Unidentified contact this is the United States Warship "Umptysquat" identify Whiskey Tango, over." After a brief pause a voice came through the ether. ""Umptysquat this is the USS New Jersey, you may fire when ready, over."

2. sit down with your wife, and calmly explain why you want her to take at least basic safety training, and that you have arranged for her to receive it in a safe and structured environment, with a trained instructor.

3. drop her off with her instructor, and go to the other end of the range and put holes in paper. do NOT hang around where she is. when she's done, take her someplace nice that she likes for a snack/drink/meal. let her bring up the subject of the class and how she felt about it. if she *still* doesn't want to be involved, let it go: at least she's been trained on safe handling at this point.

Brain Differences Between Rich and Poor Kids

University of California, Berkeley, researchers have shown for the first time that the brains of low-income children function differently from the brains of high-income kids.

In a study recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, scientists at UC Berkeley's Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and the School of Public Health report that normal 9- and 10-year-olds differing only in socioeconomic status have detectable differences in the response of their prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is critical for problem solving and creativity.

Brain function was measured by means of an electroencephalograph (EEG) – basically, a cap fitted with electrodes to measure electrical activity in the brain – like that used to assess epilepsy, sleep disorders and brain tumors.

"Kids from lower socioeconomic levels show brain physiology patterns similar to someone who actually had damage in the frontal lobe as an adult," said Robert Knight, director of the institute and a UC Berkeley professor of psychology. "We found that kids are more likely to have a low response if they have low socioeconomic status, though not everyone who is poor has low frontal lobe response."

Previous studies have shown a possible link between frontal lobe function and behavioral differences in children from low and high socioeconomic levels, but according to cognitive psychologist Mark Kishiyama, first author of the new paper, "those studies were only indirect measures of brain function and could not disentangle the effects of intelligence, language proficiency and other factors that tend to be associated with low socioeconomic status. Our study is the first with direct measure of brain activity where there is no issue of task complexity."

Co-author W. Thomas Boyce, UC Berkeley professor emeritus of public health who currently is the British Columbia Leadership Chair of Child Development at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is not surprised by the results. "We know kids growing up in resource-poor environments have more trouble with the kinds of behavioral control that the prefrontal cortex is involved in regulating. But the fact that we see functional differences in prefrontal cortex response in lower socioeconomic status kids is definitive."

Boyce, a pediatrician and developmental psychobiologist, heads a joint UC Berkeley/UBC research program called WINKS – Wellness in Kids – that looks at how the disadvantages of growing up in low socioeconomic circumstances change children's basic neural development over the first several years of life.

"This is a wake-up call," Knight said. "It's not just that these kids are poor and more likely to have health problems, but they might actually not be getting full brain development from the stressful and relatively impoverished environment associated with low socioeconomic status: fewer books, less reading, fewer games, fewer visits to museums."

Kishiyama, Knight and Boyce suspect that the brain differences can be eliminated by proper training. They are collaborating with UC Berkeley neuroscientists who use games to improve the prefrontal cortex function, and thus the reasoning ability, of school-age children.

"It's not a life sentence," Knight emphasized. "We think that with proper intervention and training, you could get improvement in both behavioral and physiological indices."

Specifically, Fattah referred to an Obama education proposal to provide a $4,000 college-tuition tax credit to students who dedicate 100 hours to community service. "I think there will be a more than adequate substitute for Philly in the immediate future," he said. Created by Fattah in 2003, CORE Philly has awarded $24 million in scholarships.

I read that it was 100 hours PER YEAR so 400 total.

1. check with local shooting clubs/ranges to see who has NRA certified female instructors. talk with one or more of them about your spouse, and explain what you want to accomplish. listen to whatever advice they offer. make arrangements for a block of training.

2. sit down with your wife, and calmly explain why you want her to take at least basic safety training, and that you have arranged for her to receive it in a safe and structured environment, with a trained instructor.

3. drop her off with her instructor, and go to the other end of the range and put holes in paper. do NOT hang around where she is. when she's done, take her someplace nice that she likes for a snack/drink/meal. let her bring up the subject of the class and how she felt about it. if she *still* doesn't want to be involved, let it go: at least she's been trained on safe handling at this point.

/free advice

I like the idea of calling the instructor first to see what they have to say. Thanks to you and everyone else for the advice.

The war on Christmas is now the jihad on Christmas...
School cancels Christmas nativity in favour of Muslim Eid celebrations

Greenwood Junior School sent out a letter to parents saying the three day festival of Eid al-Adha, which takes place between 8-11 December, meant that Muslim children would be off school.

That meant planning for a traditional pantomime were shelved because the school felt it would be too difficult to run both celebrations side by side.

The move has left parents furious.
...
Following outrage from parents, the school was forced to send out a second letter saying that the Christmas play would be done in January.

Islamic lunatics continue to broadcast their own brand of comedy; demanding attention from the rest of the serious world.
The only problem is that their world is still entrenched in the 7th century;
the frantic finger waving and the message to convert to Islam(or else!) has become quite boring and is over ripe for satirical denigration.
Sadly due to PC(aka. censorship) a thick seam of satirical fun has never been mined. Until now!
Chris Morris, a highly talented British satirist, is at an advanced stage of planning a comedy film in which insane Imams and wannabe suicide bombers
are subject to his caustic humour.(the fact that the BBC and even Channel4 have turned him down is sufficient evidence that we can expect something
that will have "the Ropers" seething for a generation.)
In reponse to this "scholar's" kindly invitation I wonder if "Barry" will have the balls to tell him to 'cough.(as in go away!).

What a f*cking moron. The DC sniper was clearly an example of Sudden Jihad Syndrome, and there are still unanswered questions as to whether McVeigh was acting as a soldier of fortune on behalf of some Islamist moneymen.

Not that it really matter whether or not they were influenced by Islam.

The fact that there are other terrorists out there does not negate the fact of Radical Islamic terror.

Just because being rid of that particular strand of terrorist motivation doesn't remove ALL terrorist acts in the world, does not mean that it won't remove a large portion of it.

It's like saying... "I'm gonna clean up the streets of New York, and help all those in poverty." Then her saying "but... but... there are those in poverty in Chicago as well! You shouldn't clean up New York, because poverty is an age old tradition, and besides, cleaning up New York won't solve it everywhere"

Action Alert: Galaxy FM issue public apology

On Saturday 29th November at approximately 10pm, local Birmingham Radio station, Galaxy FM aired a very controversial song. The song by artist Busta Rhymes, titled ‘Arab Money’ featured the words of Surah Fateha, from the Holy Qur'an . This was a remix version which has offended many Muslims in and around the West Midlands. The song was also played by Galaxy Manchester.
Quick Public Apology issued

Usually, MPACUK encourages Muslims to complain about such issues. However in this case, Galaxy has already reacted both quickly and responsibly. They have acknowledged the song was offensive and have issued a public apology on air, on both Galaxy Manchester and Galaxy Birmingham. Additionally an apology has been issued on their website. They have also advised us that the presenter who played the song originally on Galaxy Birmingham, has been suspended and there will be a full investigation.

What you can do.

It is rare for any media organisation to take such actions and so fast. Many organisations often justify their anti-Muslim behaviour as opposed to acknowledging it, apologising and taking swift action against those responsible. Galaxy’s behaviour needs to be recognised by Muslims.

E.W. Scripps said today it is putting the Rocky Mountain News up for sale.

Cincinnati-based Scripps said challenging conditions in the newspaper industry are forcing the attempted sale.
"The decision to seek a buyer for the Rocky would have been unthinkable until recently," said Rich Boehne, president and CEO of Scripps, "but the operating conditions have become increasing difficult in Denver, as is the case in all major metropolitan newspaper markets."

Scripps said it has lost about $11 million in Denver through the first nine months of the year.

I'm trying to do the same with my current girlfriend. We agree that she needs to get a pistol and a carry permit, it's just getting her to actually do it that's the problem. It doesn' thelp that Smith and Wessons have gotten so damn expensive. We found the perfect gun for her at the gun show last weekend. It was $790. For a little stainless .38 DAO/Pocket hammer pistol.

We may decide to go Charter Arms. They make solid guns that are more in line with what she's willing to spend.

Just say no the the big 3 auto bailout.
If Nancy and the corruptocrats want it - it must suck.

Nothing in the plans they submitted to Congress this week modifies our understanding of their predicament — the only thing that has changed is that extra $9 billion added onto the amount of money they want. They are facing the same problems they faced before, and the solutions they have devised are unconvincing. A bailout for the Big Three would only postpone their day of reckoning, at which point they would be back for more money. Bankruptcy, on the other hand, would spare the taxpayers and put the Big Three on a sounder footing for the future.

Peace activists planned to blow up Milan Cathedral for Christmas...
Italy arrests Moroccan 'al-Qaeda' suspects

Two Morrocan men suspected of links with al-Qaeda have been arrested in Italy for allegedly planning bomb attacks, including one against Milan's Duomo cathedral. "The plot was uncovered well before those being investigated were able to procure explosives," Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said commenting on Tuesday's arrests.

The 31-year-old Rachid Ilhami, a welder by trade, and his associate Abdelkader Ghafir, 43, a bricklayer, were apprehended in Giussano, a town 25 kilometres north of Milan.

Investigators say wire tappings and computer files seized during the arrests, suggest the pair were also plotting to blow up a supermarket and a police station.
...
Ilhami, who has been living in Italy since the age of 10 and is married with two children, worked in his spare time at a centre run by peace activists near Macherio,...

Sadly - I used to be shocked when I cam across such stuff, even only a few years ago.
Now - the more blatant stuff seems to become the norm, and I am on the look-out for the less blatant, more insiduous stuff because sadly that shows much more clearly how wide-spread and socially acceptable any form of Jew hatred has become.

LOL! Only four inches of snow. Having lived in the Great State of Superior, four inches of snow is only a wee bit larger than a snow flurry. Imagine, if you will, driving on panked down snow mixed with sand for traction for miles on end at 55-70mph. Traffic standstill? Only if the snowfall is measured in feet, not inches.

Israeli Telephone Commandos Strike Again

Recently, Israel hacked into the Syrian phone system, and sent thousands of messages to Syrians offering a $10 million reward for information on the whereabouts of missing Israeli soldiers. Syrian intelligence officials believe the campaign was more interested in recruiting intelligence agencies. Many Syrians thought it was all an attempt by their own government to find and identify disloyal citizens. Whatever the case, such an attack is nothing new.

For the last two years, Israel has been hacking into Lebanon based Hezbollah radio and TV broadcasts, and inserting messages that point out mistakes Hezbollah has made, or lies Hezbollah has been pushing, or simply ridiculing the Islamic radicals. Israeli Information War teams have also spammed Lebanese cell phone users with anti-Hezbollah voice mail and text messages.

This sort of thing confirms to the Arabs that the Israelis are evil, in league with the devil and thus in possession of some kind of magic. Other Arab pundits point out that Arab countries need to increase their spending on education, so that Arab geeks can hack Israeli communications. But the magic angle tends to be more popular with editors and government censors.

Heh.

It's official... the Canadian Governor General has Prorogued parliament (essentially ended the previous session).

The liberal & separatist coalition can no longer bring down the conservatives until the end of January at the earliest.

It is this kind of arrogant behaviour of the Liberals and the NDP that forces me around to thinking that Alberta and BC would be far better off separating from the rest of Canada. Either that or join the United States. That would certainly help fix the US problem with dependence on foreign oil, seeing as how more than half of the US foreign oil comes from Alberta.

If G-d had intended Canadian oil to be sold at world market prices he would have put it in Ontario rather than Alberta.

The general election held just 7 weeks ago gave a clear mandate to Harper & the conservatives to govern. The Liberals were so badly trounced their leader was forced to announce he's quitting. Then suddenly last week, the Liberals. NDP & Bloc realized if they all agreed to vote together they could bring down the duly elected government, form a coalition gov't without a mandate and use the excuse of the economic crisis to hand out billions of dollars to all their favorite programs.

Thank goodness the GG didn't fall for it. Let Harper table his budget and then see if the Liberals have the balls to vote it down. Not going to happen.

My concern is the last bit.

I feel like liberal pandering to the masses is enough to keep public opinion on their side for the most part, and I'm worried its just delaying the confidence vote -- and pissing a lot of people off at the same time.

Don't get me wrong, I voted Conservative in the last election, and I'm a strong Harper supporter. It's just a ridiculous situation all around.

I'm happy the GG had the balls to prorogue though. It shows she can see through what the coalition is trying to do.

I just am not impressed with the fact that proroging exists. You can just call off parliament, suspend it, reform it, all without an election? Then again, we just had an election! And this is how I end up talking in circles with myself. I have very mixed feelings. (Note: it's mostly because I am consciously trying to avoid letting my support for conservatives cloud my opinion of the whole process in general -- what would you do if this was a Dion government, and Harper was leading the coalition?)

Send 'em up!"

...reminds me of the Aircraft Carrier and the Lighthouse joke, which ends with:

re: #296 Honorary Yooper

Exactly!
My sister lives in Switzerland - they just laugh when I tell what happens here.

Mind, in all honesty I ought to confess that we in South Wales wimp out whne there's about two inches of snow - has the North Walians in stitches, that!

re: #295 yma o hyd

Sadly - I used to be shocked when I cam across such stuff, even only a few years ago.
Now - the more blatant stuff seems to become the norm, and I am on the look-out for the less blatant, more insiduous stuff because sadly that shows much more clearly how wide-spread and socially acceptable any form of Jew hatred has become.
What is worse, people who'd be horrified if someone says anything anti-black people don't even notice this.

You need only look at how Anti-Semitism/Zionism is being accepted amount the "liberal" classes to see how pervasive and acceptable it is becoming. In the minds of most, wanting to ignore the truth, all Anti-Semitism is now just "Anti-Zionism". Where the "liberal classes" would once very quickly attack anyone who said that "Jews run the Media" or "Jews control the Government", they now repeat this canard by simply tricking themselves into hearing "Zionists" or "Israel", or alternatively just simply change the word (but not meaning) Jew for Zionist.

Anti-Zionism is encouraged, and accepted. After years, the thin veil between so called Anti-Zionism and outright Anti-Semitism will dissolve, and most wont even realize that it has happened. Its sad as Anti-Zionism when not actually mirroring Anti-Semitism, it echos it. Instead of "dirty little Jews" from the mouths of European leaders you get "s--tty little country". Instead of "Jews have taken over our Country"...you get "Zionists have taken over our country." Adolf said that "the Jews got us into this war", and we hear daily from both the "right" and the "left" that "the Jews got us into this war".

And Family Guy isn't even that funny. I'm totally serious. The jokes are just interchangeable.

That sounds too good to be true. I guess if you really badly needed the money, you'll take what you can get. I had to sell a .44 Magnum like that once. Something about eating and all that happy horseshit :-)

Remington has a new tactical 1100 out that I really like. It retails for about $700. 18" barrel, 7-8 rounds in the magazine, and it's a Remington, so there's not a lot of bad that can be said about it. They're wanting to compete with the Bennelli guns. The Bennelli is a nicer gun, but you certainly pay the premium to get it.

It may well be too good to be true...guess we'll see. And yep, saw that new tac recently. It does kinda make ya salivate a bit. And you're absolutely right - not a lot of bad can be said about Remington.

We wait for others to accept our rightful place as the light among the nations before we act like it. We will twist our reality away from the Truth to please the Nations. War games: The al-Qaeda and Nazi Lego men that 'glorify terrorism'

A range of Lego-style figures including an al-Qaeda terrorist and Nazi officer have been slammed by religious leaders for 'glorifying terrorism.'
One of the children's toys - made from customised Lego men - resembles a masked follower of Osama bin Laden complete with a rocket launcher, assault rifle and grenades.

Another of the warped figures is a gun-wielding German major, whose uniform bears the SS insignia, which can be bought along with a replica Nazi stormtrooper.

Mohammed Shaffiq of Muslim organisation The Ramadhan Foundation told The Sun the figures were 'absolutely disgusting'.

He said: 'It is glorifying terrorism - the makers should be ashamed. We should be coming together to unite against terrorism but how is that possible when children are playing with toys like this?'
War games: Guns and bayonets come as standard accessories
Edie Friedman, director of the Jewish Council for Racial Equality, added: 'These distasteful toys are something we could all well do without, especially when there is so much tension around.'

The Jew is not a cripple. G-d made him with two legs, and the authentic healthy Jew walks on both of them. As I stated before, it is incumbent upon us to understand our greatness and believe in it so that we do not cheapen and profane ourselves.

We must immediately end the national amnesia that causes us to forget who and what we are.

And if we'd played like that agains the South Africans for 80 minutes, instead of only for 40, we'd have had them as well. Coaches were furious!
Oh - and the stand-off after the Haka, and that first half against the All Blacks - wow! They had to pull out all the stops after that - only their third string was needed against England, and they beat them at a lazy canter.
Can't wait for next year and the six Nations - things are looking good, as we had a number of our best players missing with injuries.

My son is refusing to go to his religious studies class until the holocaust unit is over... so January. He's heard it many times, and the current curriculum (or teacher, I'm not sure which) is presenting it as Jews in America are a victim group, similar to the Jews in Germany in the '30s. Now my son is one of the only Jewish kids in Boy Scouts in this area and he viscerally rejects the idea that Jews should be a whiny victim group rather than engaging in the larger community in community service, outdoor activities, etc. as leaders, as cheerful participants. So, I guess I see his point.

A .44 isn't that bad. You have to hold on to it, sure, but if you are in good form, with both hands like they should be, a .44 is quite usable. I've had one since I was 14-15 years old.

I've had my Super Blackhawk since I was 21. I shoot it one and two-handed. But the grip is designed to "roll", and you have to know that for one-handed shots.

Parliament takes breaks all the time. There is nothing unusual about this except the circumstances which precipitated it. The 3 choices today were:

1. Let the Liberals, NDP & Bloc bring down the gov't and form an election, without a clear electoral mandate for doing so.
2. Call an election and let the voters decide. Again.
3. Prorogue until January and allow the duly elected gov't to table the budget then.

At a time of economic crisis, the first two options are not in the national interest. The opposition was acting in partisan self-interest. Harper has a mandate and an obligation to govern. The Conservatives already read a Thrown speech, and the Parliament approved it. Yet, on the first item in the approved agenda, the opposition turns around and tries to bring down the gov't. They want to govern, but without getting a mandate for it. They even chose as their leader the man the Liberals blamed for their electoral defeat, Stephane Dion. Hey Canada, let's lead the country with a man we don't even want anymore to lead our party!

The opposition complained the Tories were not acting fast enough to deal with the economy. And yet, Harper announce he would table his budget in January, instead of in March as usual. Of course, if the Liberal/NDP/Bloc coalition had been allowed to form a gov't, they would not be able to produce a budget by January. So the very basis of their argument is bogus.

Don't let the Liberals & NDP pretend the Bloc is not part of the Coalition. Without the Bloc, they lack the votes to bring down the Tories, form a government or to pass any legislation. The coalition includes the Bloc in everything but name.

Toppling a government just because you can, whenever you can, is not responsible parliamentary democracy. The party that won the election 7 weeks ago should be allowed to govern. That is the will of the people. If the opposition won't support the budget in January, then an election will be called and we will most likely have a Tory majority as a result.

And yes, I would take the same position if the Liberals had formed a minority gov't.

By the way, have you noticed how conspicuously absent Michael Ignatieff has been the last couple of days? I don't think he wants to be seen to be part of this travesty.

I have a stoeger/bennelli P350 and I love it so far...around 350$...18" pistol grip and a ball to shoot...some have ejection problems tho

Egyptian Cleric Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal’s threatening attempt to persuade Barack Obama to convert to Islam is about as effective as our commenter Zin’s efforts to persuade us that Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro are the real democrats.

But I detect a note of hysteria– almost desperation– in Al-Ashbal’s voice. Is it a fear that Obama’s election means that he and his fellow clerics in the Muslim world soon will have a much harder time whipping up and playing on grievance and resentment against the US?

How does a decocker address that? I thought they were just so you could "ease" the hammer back down safely if there's a round in the chamber; maybe I'm missing it, but how does it make unholstering safer?

I don't understand your question. But it seems as if you are putting the 3 Abrahamic religions at odds. This doesn't have to be. I do not ask Christians or Muslims to change their beliefs in this context. My message is ONLY to the Jews.

We are to be a light unto the nations...what the Nations wish to do once seeing that light is up to them. They will use their fee will to choose their own destiny.

Oh, I see what you're saying.

It is not my intent to put the 3 Abrahamic religions at odds, I'm just saying that the Jew, the Christian, the Muslim claim Israel as their own because of their convictions to the G-d (Allah) they worship.

I guess that is one way to look at it until they start making camp figures or settler figures for the bad guys to shoot. I guess until they come out with a D-9 and St. Pancake set, I will withhold judgment.

I'm not sure about the fuss about the German soldiers. They (not the leggos soldiers) have been around for years in the plastic bags full of soldiers and the models of German equipment as well as the miniature soldiers have been around since I was a kid playing with them in the early 60s.

The jihadist peeves me quite a bit. Perhaps because they are not a national Army and their purpose isn't a national one but one simply of murder and mayhem. Maybe because they are still whacking people.

re: #425 WrathofG-d

WHY?

Because we (Jews) quickly forget our place on Earth...who we are...our job. In every generation we forget, and assimilate, and throw away our history, G-d, and values. He is exceptionally patient and gives us tiny signs througout our everyday. But most ignore those signs. So he has to be more obvious. But most ignore those signs. Then he needs to get louder...and most STILL ignore those signs. This is why!

Say it loud...I'm G-ds CHOSEN and I and proud! I got a JOB to do and it starts today!

Outstanding answer!

But thats only the one side - what about the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, all the way up to the present time? Is it that most of us don't like it when we get to see how we ought to live, but can't be bothered to do it, and take it out on those who do? Blocking our ears to His voice in the process?

The decocker also acts as an external safety...while engaged, you can't pull the trigger to fire the gun and it keeps the firing pin off of the cartridge... when disengaged, the Walther is a double action first shot/single action successive shots.

The Glock style guns have the grip safety which I don't think provides much "safety"... just a newbie's opinion.

Three presidents died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season" Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

Jimmy Carter fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle", he said.

"You may pass through the pearly gates" Saint Peter said.

George Bush reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells."

Saint Peter said "You may pass through the pearly gates".

Bill Clinton started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow a and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "These are Carols."

The Glock style guns have the grip safety

No, you're thinking of M1911s or Springfield XD.

In the original 1911s, the grip safety only locked up the trigger, not the rest of the firing mechanism, which I agree, ain't much of a safety. More modern versions (like my Kimber), squeezing the grip safety pushes back a firing pin safety, which makes a lot more sense. I am a big fan of "drop safe" guns, even if some purists object to the concept (for reasons I don't quite understand).

re: #321 XMarine

It is this kind of arrogant behaviour of the Liberals and the NDP that forces me around to thinking that Alberta and BC would be far better off separating from the rest of Canada. Either that or join the United States. That would certainly help fix the US problem with dependence on foreign oil, seeing as how more than half of the US foreign oil comes from Alberta.

If G-d had intended Canadian oil to be sold at world market prices he would have put it in Ontario rather than Alberta.

I wouldn't be too quick to write off Harper and the Conservatives - this whole fiasco might end up backfiring on the Liberals and leading to a Spring/09 election and a Conservative majority government.
BTW nothing stirs up the Albertan separatists quicker than talking about a made-in-Canada oil price. When Trudeau brought in the National Energy Policy back in the '80's he stirred up a real hornet's nest out West.

I heard about that draw. Group of Death indeed.

This time round we will not go home early!
The players don't want to disappoint their coaches ...

The defense coach is a very hard man - he told them that a) each leaked try hurst him more than anything, and b) they can only come off the pitch if they've broken a leg. Funny thing is - the players adore him, work their socks off, and literally stay on til carted off, under protest.
The young player who crashed with th the Aussie captain stayed on the pitch for another 18 minutes while the Aussie was taken off. He then came off - turns out he had broken his skull! Its ok, clean break, no complications, he's got to rest for a few weeks. Thats the spirit - and this was only his third cap ... he's only 22 ...

Well - rugby is about the only thing which cheers us up in Wales at the moment.

The Glock design is practically indestructable.

I give big props to Gaston G.

I've read of:

-A Glock frozen solid in ice, thawed out, fired perfectly normally;

-A Glock dropped (on purpose) from a helicopter onto asphalt from 300 feet with a round in the chamber, DIDN'T fire upon hitting pavement, fired perfectly fine immediately after, suffering only a cracked sight;

-Glocks being the only LE carry guns in the wake of Katrina that didn't suffer rust after wading around for several days in brackish water with no chance to clean/lubricate.

I will almost certainly get one eventually. But the M1911 is the one I like to actually fire.

My only complain is the method in which it deals with downloads. But, it is all good once I figured it out. Instruction manual? I don't need no stinking instruction manual! ;-)>

The only thing I hate about Vista is how it handles Compatibility Files. Have you ever copied a file into the program directory or sub directory of a legacy app? Only to look for it later and find it gone?
AND no matter how many times you saved it into the folder, it just keeps disappearing? Well that is Compatibility files...

This is why you should only copy files into the folder where you find documents, pictures videos etc.

The program directories are protected by an evil genie.

Really.

Know, O Hassan, that it is not the responsibility of America to feed Muslim children. If more Arabs and Muslims worked at growing food, and loved life more and death less, there would be food enough for the children.

Know, O Hassan, that Obama is not a Byzantine, and that America is not Byzantium. And you are not Mehmet, nor are you Saladin. Neither are you a seer: the future is unknown to you, including the question of whether America will know peace.

Peace can come if you will have it: you need only adopt live-and-let-live policies. This you would naturally do if you loved life. But if you love death, you are free to kill yourself. Your shoelaces would do the trick. Why bother us?

Peace can also come if you won't have it. We do in fact stand like an iron wall, and other Muslims with greater wisdom and less death-wish will take out of your hands the decision of whether to continue with futile, unprovoked, inexcusable, atrocious, and in their eventual consequences, costly attacks. It took a thick shoelace, but Saddam Hussein was hanged for his crimes. Among those crimes, crimes against his fellow Muslims... he took his nation into wars of conquest against his Muslim neighbors, and he murdered with nerve gas whole villages of his own people.

Our part in this was to strike from his hands the sword by which he lived, so that justice might be done. Our patience is not without limit.

Getting those animals to understand anything but hate is like teaching a pig to sing. It just wastes your time and annoys the pigs.

They worship a demon. A really nasty one. It's apparent primary goal is to blind them with their own hatred. There is nothing good or enriching coming from it. Only suffering and chaos.

I don't know if this spiritual monster is the primary super natural being in the Muslim religion, but it's lies are obvious to anyone who cares to observe the fruits of ifs believers.

I normally don't share this with anyone, but these killers need to be identified and dealt with by the very society from which they come from and continue live and operate it.

Damn it! C'mon you peace loving Muslims who continually defend your religion and your Koran.

So, these killers are a small majority and the vast majority of Muslims are peace loving people? Then it should be easy then to identify these criminals and report them to the authorities.

By doing nothing, your are giving it your quiet consent.

To both Iron Fist and Creeping Eruption- I'm late to the thread, but three suggestions- First on the common attitude of medical people toward gunshot victims (and my old hobby, motorcycles!)- They see many more automobile accident victims than gunshots- but most cheerfully drive to work. A little gentle exposure of that cognitive dissonance may help. Second, for guns- Taurus makes a nifty little 8 shot .22 Magnum revolver that fits my wife's small hand perfectly. The .22 Mag is powerful enough to be a worthwhile defense round, but recoil is almost nil. Finally, find out if there are any Bowling Pin shooting matches in your area, if so, go, enter, and have her watch. Non-humanoid targets, and these matches are among the more fun things you can do with clothes on. And there are usually families involved.

When the group formed(which included an aquaintance of mine David Walton
on piano) .They had a problem in that no-one was a particularly good singer.
Muff suggested that his 14yr old brother was a competent guitarist and had an excellent singing voice.
The rest is history.
I later read that Steve aquired a big fan foll

The laugh is that due to the strange timbre of his voice;they thought he was black.

Well guess what? The president-elect is planning to make a major foreign policy speech in an Islamic capital.

So Burkina Faso and the Maldives are out. But that leaves a whole swath of Islamic capitals, all ready to be spruced up for Mr. Obama to make his speech. I’ve thought hard about this, and asked a few people — diplomats even — which capital Mr. Obama should pick.

The consensus, after an entire day of reporting, is Cairo.

So would he make the speech before or after converting? :-)

re: #130 Occasional Reader

Thanks. I think y'all need to have a Revolution to free yourselves of the Crown. We could give you some pointers...

The Crown is not the problem here. The Governor General did the right thing, by acceding to PM Harper's request for prorogation of Parliament. Had she taken the other tack, and allowed a non-confidence vote, and then asked the Liberal-NDP-Bloc coalition to form a government, then she would likely find herself judged by History as a traitor. Remember, the Bloc (Bloc Quebecois), one leg of the 3-legged stool of this putative coalition, is a party whose sole raison d'etre is to make Quebec an independent country. As such, they are disloyal to Canada on a fundamental level, and they are up-front about it. But the other two parties, Liberals and New Democrats (near left, and loony left), are, at least in principle, "Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition", to use the formal term. For them to make common cause with an avowedly separatist party is tantamount to treason, IMHO.

Now Michaelle Jean herself, the Governor General, is married to an avowed Quebec separatist, and apparently had some separatist leanings herself. She was a "journalist" with Radio-Canada, the French-language network of the notoriously-left leaning Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, financed by the ever-suffering taxpayer, before being appointed to that role by the former Liberal government. I believe she was pretty much put on the spot by the 3-legged coalition. Had she granted their demand to be asked to form a government, she would go down in history as being nothing more than a separatist toady doing the separatist's work for them. She was pretty much obliged to grant PM Harper's request for the prorogue, in order to preserve her own reputation. Whatever the reason, she did the right thing, and I salute her for it. (And she's quite the hottie, to boot, I might add.)

And had the Queen become involved personally (unlikely, but theoretically possible, I think), it's all but certain she would have ruled the same way. She is a sharp cookie, and would immediately grasp the implications of all the alternatives.

The real root cause of this problem is the existence of the Bloc Quebecois, and the fact that they hold 50 seats in Quebec, making it necessary for any other party to win practically a super-majority in the other 9 Provinces in order to get a simple majority in Parliament.

The prorogue will serve as a cooling-off period, and given time, and luck, cooler heads within the Liberal Party may come to realize that making common cause with Separatists was bad ju-ju, and take steps to purge the traitors.

I noticed the confirmation of the honor/shame society that Hassan Abu al-Ashbal is part of. He says: become a Muslim and you will receive [the best of all rewards:] honor. Stay an infidel and you will receive [the worst of all rewards:] humiliation. The society is driven by what others think of you, and never by your own evaluation of your deeds, not by any feeling of guilt at horrendous terrorist crimes that you commit in the name of jihad, and not by any feeling of pride at being a compassionate human being.

Almost all of the jihaditerrorists who carried out their massacres in Mumbai are dead. But what needs to happen now is that the whole world -- including the decent people who are Muslims -- should dishonor these evil, rabid terrorists. Let those who would follow in their evil, rabid path know that there is dishonor in following such a path.
