Is it just me, or is the thread count way up today?

Man Made Global Warming is REAL!
Last year, Pachauri's IPCC, which collected the work of more than 2,000 scientists, said climate change is "unequivocal, is already happening, and is caused by human activity."

It listed likely effects of global warming: arid regions will grow dryer, rising seas will flood coastal areas, melting glaciers will flood communities downstream and then dry up the source of future water supplies, and up to 30 percent of all plant and animal species may become extinct.

Er,

No, it's not.
Study: Half of warming due to Sun! –Sea Levels Fail to Rise? - Warming Fears in 'Dustbin of History'

A hint of what the upcoming report contains:

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

No blue sky here. 35 and rain in Houston. Possible snow showers tonight. Coming from Vermont, it's funny to watch how people act down here with the cold weather.

It was funnier in the '80's, when half of Houston was from Michigan.

I'd've thought Michiganders could handle just-above-freezing drizzle, but I was wrong.

They were fun to watch in the summer, too.

What chaps me these days in no one in Houston can drive in the RAIN anymore. C'mon, folks, we're practicaly sub-tropical.

But I can tell you: any hint of ice or snow, and I am off the roads. I don't have the gear, the skills, or the spare cat-lives for it.

This is because most Californians (myself excluded) are completely incapable of driving in the rain. Anytime it sprinkles for more than a few minutes here there are 25+ multi-car pileup accidents and the whole freeway system grinds to a halt.

I mean, if you are in your 50's like me, I can bet you could sing all the words to the Green Acres opening or to Gilligan's Island.

Scary.

Heck, I'm in my 20's and I can sing most all of those intros. Thank you TV Land and TBS.

re: #144 Ward Cleaver

I wonder if that plane's still flying? I'd have to find a clip somewhere, to see the N-number, and look it up.

At the beginning of the television series, Sky flew a Cessna T-50 twin-engine "Bamboo Bomber." The plane, a WW II surplus UC-78B, was owned by legendary Hollywood pilot Paul Mantz [2]and flown by employees of his Paul Mantz Aerial Services for filming of the flying sequences.[3] At least two other T-50s are known to have been used for on-ground and in-the-cockpit scenes.[4]

The best-known Songbird was a twin-engine Cessna 310B. The airplane used was the second production 310B (N5438A), which was provided by Cessna at no cost to the producers and piloted by Cessna's national sales manager for the 310, Bill Fergusson. Fergusson got the job after the motion picture pilot already selected was deemed unqualified to land the airplane at some of the off-airport sites required. Some months after a library of stock footage had been compiled, additional sequences were filmed using a different airplane. [5]The original 310B was eventually destroyed in a 1962 crash at Delano, California, that killed its owner-pilot.[6] Cockpit sequences were filmed using the static test fuselage, also provided by Cessna.[7]

I remember Newhart, the one where he ran the hotel, as pretty funny. Taxi as well. Can't really think of any others.

The last episode of Newhart produced the single finest moment in any television show ever.

True story about Kemp: as an NFL quarterback, he broke his hand, and was told he'd never play football again. He had the doctors shape the cast so he could hold a football when it healed. Kemp's hand still is "shaped" to hold a football.

My favorite Jack Kemp story.

MASH was great with its first cast. Then, as the original cast members changed it kept losing steam, IMO. It lost all of its appeal when Kinger stopped cross-dressing

Very true. And let us never speak of the abomination that was "After M*A*S*H."

I'm going to take a nap. Hell, I am going to be 56 in two weeks. And I have a job interview this afternoon at 4:00pm.

Yes, a programming job, about 10 minutes from my apartment. No, I haven't quit the theatre, it's fun being a starving artist, but with the economy the way it is, and people spending less on entertainment, the theatre job is always in jeopardy.

The only problem is, this is the place I applied for twice before, about 3 years ago and they told me I didn't "fit the corporate culture," which the recruiting firm told me meant "you're too old."

So, we'll see.

Be back later tonight.

Yep. I practically stopped breathing, I was laughing so hard. It was nearly equaled by the one-off sequel to "The Bob Newhart Show," in which Larry, Darryl and Darryl turn up as painters in Bob's office.

Isn't it scary that some of those show intro's are embedded into our brain.

Obama says he wants to 'reboot'
America's battered image among Muslims

President-elect Barack Obama says he will try to ''reboot America's image'' among the world's Muslims and will follow tradition by using his entire name - Barack Hussein Obama - in his swearing-in ceremony. (Snip) Obama promised during his campaign that one of his top priorities would be to work to repair America's reputation worldwide, and that one element of that effort would be a speech delivered in a Muslim capital.

At the beginning of the television series, Sky flew a Cessna T-50 twin-engine "Bamboo Bomber."
...
The best-known Songbird was a twin-engine Cessna 310B.

Thanks for the info! I always thought Sky King only flew the 310, cool to know about the Bobcats. A T-50 variant was built for the Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Canada, known as the Crane - that contract pretty much saved Cessna from bankruptcy.

I was surprised to took 49 posts for someone to call out the Sky King reference.
Now for the Whirlybirds trivia!

And my favourite stumper is to see if anyone knows what type of plane the Flying Doctor used.

Snow in League City, TX.

I haven't seen snow in League City since I moved back to Texas in 87'.

In 04' we had 5" of snow at the beach(Crystal) which began at about 11pm on Christmas Eve and continued into the morning Christmas Day.

The snow stayed almost 5 days. It only snowed along the beach, not inland. People were coming to the beach just to see snow(not to mention that it was on the beach) - it was absolutely dynamite.
