Tech Note: LGF Pages Rebooted

In case you haven’t noticed yet, LGF Pages underwent an extreme makeover last weekend, ending up with a new, cleaner look and some new features.

I’ve been on a consistency kick, so the design of the main LGF Pages index looks a lot like the other pages at LGF, with matching fonts and text styles. And each individual Page (where the comments live) now looks much more like the “standard” LGF template.

In addition to the redesign, there are two new features:

* The category of each Page (first thing in the second line of the byline) is now an active link; if you hover the mouse over it, a list of the 5 previous Pages with that category will pop up. If you click on the category name itself, you’ll go to the LGF Pages index showing all the posts in that category.

* The Twitter button (the little blue T logo) now includes a count of the number of times the shortened URL for that page has been clicked, via Twitter or elsewhere. When you post a Page to Twitter, its URL is automatically shortened using j.mp, and they kindly provide a statistics tracking service; you’ll see the spinning busy icon as our code contacts the j.mp server and retrieves the number of clicks on each link.

(And thanks to everyone for the excellent links you’ve been posting. There’s been some really great stuff.)

A lot of things wrong with society today are directly attributable to the fact that the people who make the laws are sexually maladjusted. -- from "I Seem To Be a Verb" by R. Buckminster Fuller, 1970.
