Of the ca.20% who trust CNN, Obama leads 55-27.
Of the ca.14% who trust Fox, McCain leads 86-6.
According to my calculation, this means that in a sample of 34% McCain leads 51-39.
Please correct me if my calculation is wrong.
Your calculations are so wrong as to be utterly meaningless.
First of all the poll was taken of 997 people, let’s round it out to 1,000, for convenience sake.
20% trust CNN, that’s 200 people. of these 200, 55% favor Obama, that’s 110 people, v 27%, or 54 favor McCain.
14% trust Fox News, that’s 140 people, of these, 86%, or 120 (+ a person without arms or legs) favor McCain, and 8 ( and a person without arms or legs) favor Obama.
So, in a poll of 1,000 people, 340 of whom trust either CNN, or Fox News, 174 favor McCain, and 118 favor Obama (disregarding a quadruple amputee for each)
In a total of 34% of a sample of 1,000, McCain is favored by 17.4%, and Obama by 11.8% of those 1,000 people.
Not the same numbers as yours, but McCain is still considerably ahead in this sampling of those who trust CNN, or Fox News for their news.
