Torture allegation probes run political risks
Nearly a month after the White House released Bush-era memos outlining a legal basis for using so-called enhanced interrogation techniques against terror suspects - techniques President Obama has called torture - the question of whether to hold anyone accountable is still open.
Obama has suggested he’d just as soon consign the matter to history. But some members of Congress, activists and legal experts continue to debate other options.

Underlying that debate, however, is a more fundamental question that now is pitting Obama against some members of his own party: Given everything else happening in the country, is this even a discussion worth having?
