TEHRAN, July 5 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that a Greek journalist who had been arrested in Tehran was freed on Sunday.
Iason Athanasiadis, a Greek journalist who worked for The Washington Times, had been arrested for acting against “professional reporting” in connection with the post-election unrest in Tehran, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said.
The journalist was freed within the friendly relationship between Iran and Greece, Qashqavi explained. Iran”s ambassador in Athens announced on Friday that the journalist will soon be freed.
“We are pleased to confirm that within the next 48 hours the Greek journalist will have been freed,” Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.
