This srticle is full of crap from the get go.

Let’s put aside all of the foolish language about a religion of global warming, or the editors idea that a team of non scientists and economists know more about climate than the science community - note that they quote Al Gore and not actual scientists as the “other side” and general snark about those nutty AGW people.

Let’s look at the actual idea.

First off, SO2 is not benign. Second off as we keep increasing CO2 emissions (if we were to use this as a solution) we would have to keep dumping ever more SO2 into the atmosphere. Eventually that would have its own very bad consequences. Specifically, SO2 becomes acid rain. Specifically sulfuric acid rain.

So we would have to continue to dump this into the atmosphere to stop the warming caused by CO2, right, this is the solution, so we don’t change our ways. After some time, we then have even more CO2 in the atmosphere, which will still alter the Ph of the oceans and still cause ocean anoxia, causing ocean food resources to deplete, while on the other hand acid rain will kill crops.

Eventually, we would have to stop the SO2 of course then full scale warming comes back with a vengeance.

Now to be fair, I could see doing this as a one or wo year project to stave off a tipping point, however, there is absolutely no way this is the cheap panacea solution that those clever economists claim it is.

It would have helped had they studied basic chemistry.

Ohhh and here is a little more about SO2

Why isn’t there a call for suggestions from the technological and scientific community for addressing the issue of climate change due to CO2? Instead there is a desire to try to shut up all discussion and to stifle all ideas, especially those that are inexpensive. This is because when the agenda is “climate change justice”, and massive redistribution of the wealth of the world with climate change as an excuse (a redistribution which would not solve the climate change problem), and even a desire to restructure society by dictating what people can eat, what they can do, and perhaps how many children they can have, the attempt to find actual good solutions to the problem are viewed as a threat to the redistribution/civilizational reordering agenda.

The spending of trillions of dollars and the institution of tight controls over society, is not benign. Let ALL of the solutions be COMPARED and let NEW technology-based solutions be invited for consideration. Let the technology adjust to the purported scope of the problem. The “climate change justice” people do not want to allow the competition of ideas, and that is what rankles.

Why do you assume that the silicon dioxide would be placed at the cloud level or below the cloud level?

Also, why do you ignore the problems with the climate models, which predict that in the troposphere over the tropics there will be a hot spot (but none has been observed), and that in the troposphere over the tropics there will be warming faster than at the surface (and that has not been observed; the observations show that they are either the same or the surface warms faster)?

Why do you ignore the fact that none of the climate models have predicted the past 11-year stoppage of the global warming?

Why do you ignore the lack of evidence that the oceans are warming long-term?

Why do you ignore the lack of confirmation of the surface data warming trend by satellite sounding units, during the critical period 1978-1998?

There is more work to be done, and the “climate change justice” extremists want to rush things, before the science can be refined, and before the technology to deal with any climate change problems can be developed.. Their goal is redistribution and reordering of society, and they use climate change as a pretext.

No, the issue is with ideas that will not work for the above listed reasons.

Right - SO2 makes sulphuric acid. The amount of it we would need to dump into the atmosphere long term - particularly if we do not halt CO2 emissions would destroy crops and not address ocean anoxia.

Also, killing the plants that would scrub the CO2 is a very bad idea on teh long run as well.

Why can’t you read?

Ok this is almost too much stupid to bear in one post.

Why do you ignore the fact that none of the climate models have predicted the past 11-year stoppage of the global warming?

Because it has not stopped warming. Why not look at any of the data sets.
It is not as if this particular bit of foolishness hasn’t been debunked about 30 times here. Why not read any of the posts as to why this is foolish.

Here look at the data:

data.giss.nasa.gov

Why do you ignore the lack of evidence that the oceans are warming long-term?

Because they too have been warming steadily. Look at the above data for that as well.

Why do you ignore the lack of confirmation of the surface data warming trend by satellite sounding units, during the critical period 1978-1998?

Uhhh because there is no lack of data. The satellites show warming.

There is more work to be done, and the “climate change justice” extremists want to rush things, before the science can be refined,

Uhhh no, the science is settled that we are certainly warming and that we are certainly the primary cause of it.

and before the technology to deal with any climate change problems can be developed..

Actually nuclear solar and wind are available answers if used properly.

Their goal is redistribution and reordering of society, and they use climate change as a pretext.

No, the goal is to save our civilization and hundreds of millions to perhaps billions of lives from the consequences of an eco collapse. To think otherwise is to indulge in black helicopter land.

There is no doubt that there is increased CO2. There is no doubt that there is a greenhouse effect caused by the CO2 blanketing. But there is controversy concerning the extent of that effect.

Also, I haven’t seen any tolerance by the “climate change justice” extremists for alternative approaches to the problem. Why are they not open to considering other approaches? Why isn’t there, say, a campaign to come up with alternative approaches? It seems that they have a closed mind.
