The revamped exposition of the U-505 opened at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry in 2004. Among the exhibits is an explanation of why it was so important to keep the capture of the U-505 and it’s crew a secret for the duration of the war — in defiance of Geneva Conventions.
There are more detailed accounts, but this is the official Museum webpage and it does not gloss over the fact that it was necessary for the US to maintain “secret enemy prison camps” for national security reasons.
