CBP Confirm Mexican Helicopter Sighting
ROMA - CHANNEL 5 NEWS was at the banks in Roma on Sunday morning. A thick cloud of smoke, sounds of gunfire could all be heard just across the Rio Grande in Miguel Aleman. All were indications of another battle in Mexico.
Yesterday, federal authorities reported a Mexican military helicopter flying into U.S. airspace. Customs and Border Protection told CHANNEL 5 NEWS that a helicopter was seen flying from Mexico into Roma. It flew over Roma’s International Bridge for a brief period, but never touched down.
Today, witnesses told CHANNEL 5 NEWS that there were more helicopters flying along the Mexican side. One man says he saw up to three at one time all flying over Miguel Aleman.
The Border Patrol’s office in Laredo confirmed that at least one breach of airspace was committed.
Local CBP authorities say it may have been a Mexican Naval Helicopter.
CBP are working with Mexican leaders to figure out what the aircraft was doing on this side of the border.
This sighting comes less than two months after a Mexican Military helicopter was spotted in Zapata County about 14 miles west of Roma.
