As I type this, the +/- stands at -4 and there are No comments...any comment from the nay-sayers as to why you find no merit in Steyns op-ed?

The "OC Register" automatically is worth a down ding. Steyn, as long as he is on the Obama-as-the-worst-thing-in-the-world kick deserves one too.

re: #1 atwood6

Steyn used to be liked here, now, because he's not pro Obama, all his pieces are dinged down more or less automatically.

"No one comments on the incoherent flailing of the Democrat Party better than Mark Steyn: "

"Mark Steyn is listening to the word on the ‘Arab street,’—but it’s the left side of the American street we really need to worry about."

I never liked Steyn, and like him even less now. OTOH, the OC Register has been bad news for a very long time.

I like how the click count = 1 and the knee jerk down ding's = -3.

Woot.

This was discussed in the thread. Steyn is going to ODS anything he can to get published.

re: #6 Stanley Sea

Not only that, but Steyn's essays are all over the net. Many more people will read this at NRO than at the OC Register.

Let's try to put this into the context of the featured pages. My understanding, is that the goal of the featured pages is to encourage longer, more reasoned dialogue. So whether you want to agree with Steyn or disagree, the process is the key. Instead writing a topic sentence and leaving it at that, we're encouraged to go into more detail, develop a thought, source the thought in either logic or footnote fashion, and generally engage in the kind of dialogue that is the opposite of the two-dimensional dialogue rightly criticized here.

At least, that's how I interpret the featured pages.

There's nothing to comment on. This is a typical anti-Obama fluff piece from Canadian Mark Steyn embellished with the typical cliches of "the teleprompter" sprinkled with references of Princess Di's wedding and Janet Jackson.

This event was not a tribute to Daniel Pearl but a signing event of the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act. President Obama's words were sufficient. I doubt he will ever satisfy the likes of Mark Steyn, Pamela Geller, and Robert Spencer.

You're obviously not going to get a comment from every voter, but it's only fair to ask for some feedback. So: what Gus said in 9.

Plus:

- a 1,200 words piece on a single sentence of Obama in a relatively unimportant event is kind of a waste of time, even if the criticism is valid;

- the criticism isn't valid. I won't go too much into this, but, for instance, the word "loss" is perfectly appropriate to reference Pearl's murder in that context. That Steyn wanted Obama to say the word "beheaded" at the ceremony with Pearl's family present is bizarre enough. That he imagines that the family shares this particular preference is downright lunatic.
