Talking Heads - Psycho Killer | Songs From My Misspent Youth
Oh a callow, stupid, barely out in the world self and 3 friends piled in my moms 1970 Impala station wagon, dubbed The Yellow Submarine and headed to Hackensack, NJ in 1977 to play one of the first Asteroids machines in Bergen County, NJ.
Strategically located in a stripper bar (ok, no strippers, but ladies that walked the length of the bar in bikini’s, poured drinks and struck, um, suggestive poses) we sauntered in, invisible as only 16 year old boys can be and started popping quarters into the lonely Asteroids monolith. When it became obvious no one cared we were there, Maurice, my dear Italian friend, star forward for the town soccer team, the boy who would, in a year, boast the ability to play the beautiful game unfettered while on LSD, strolled over to the jukebox and ordered up “Psycho Killer.” And began a 6 year love affair with the quirkiest rock and roll band NYC ever served up….
ok, not even close, but we loved them anyway.
