85 inmates escape in mass jail break in Mexicos drug-plagued north
MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) – Mexican authorities on Friday confirmed that 85 prisoners escaped after a morning jailbreak on Friday in the Mexican city of Reynosa across the border from McAllen, Texas.
The massive prison break took place just three days after Antonio Garza Garcia took office as the head of the Public Security agency of Tamaulipas state. Garza said that the inmates used a ladder to escape from the prison.
After jumping the barrier, the 85 inmates got loose into the nearby streets surrounding the correction facility. Two prison guards are also unaccounted for and authorities believe that they may have helped prisoners to escape. The director of the Tamaulipas prison, Guadalupe Reyes Ortega, is also under investigation because he was not at work at the moment of the mass jail break. Investigators are also questioning 44 employees.
