Earlier this year, the boy filed a series of lawsuits claiming he was raped at gunpoint by Father Fiala, and accusing the Catholic Church in Texas of covering up the priest's behaviour.

Remains to be seen if the church did try to cover this up. If so, nothing new to see here. The contract hit, OTOH, is a new twist. This is a very creative abuser.

Murder is the ultimate abuse, isn't it. Way to prove your accuser's point.

The Church has a history of covering up the behavior of pedophile priests.

I personally thought the exorcism story was a non-story - included in the story that Charles linked was the information that no exorcism is considered in this country until physical or mental problems have been ruled out by phyisicians and mental health experts. While I personally doubt there is need for any rite of exorcism and wouldn't seek it myself, I also see no need to be scornful of those who do believe they will find some comfort or cure in it. I've found no evidence the the existence of the practice has led to harm to anyone.

THIS, priestly pedophilia, is a very real issue for the Church and one that has caused very real and devastating harm, and continues to cause harm, to hundreds (if not thousands) of innocent people, and IMO, the Church has not addressed it forcefully or honestly enough. It was just a matter of time, I believe, and actually an extension of the Church's inaction on priestly pedophilia, before a story like this was revealed, where a priest considered as drastic a measure as murder to keep his behavior under wraps.
