It's not like this is any surprise. What is surprising is that he was elected in the first place.

It's not a surprise and was one of the consequences we warned about with the Tea Parties, libertarians, Paulians and 9-11 truthers. The wingnuts have been indoctrinated enough at this point that even they aren't surprised or outraged by the prospect of ending aid to Israel. Here's the Fox Nation thread: Rand Paul: Cut All U.S. Aid to Israel
The comments are mixed but those opposed to Rand's abandonment of Israel aren't that outraged and will soon fall in line with what Fox News tells them.

I read that his proposal was to end all foreign aid. Just as nuts.

The right always turns on th Jews. It really does not fail.

5 theheat  Fri, Jan 28, 2011 11:33:29am

It's a given the Democrats abandon the Jews pretty much every time. It's also a given the Republicans abandon the Jews, they just drag it out and issue platitudes along the way, maybe throw them some money and let them sing for their supper, lest they get all uppity and stuff (Christ killerz!).

This is the classic Lucy / football scenario. And no matter how many times it plays out that way, people hope for a different result. Rand Paul his sympathizers want to shitcan the foreplay and ditch them altogether.

People voted for him, by the way.

His position is to end all foreign aid just to make certain of cutting off Israel, because, those Jooz could somehow manage to sneak away foreign aid made to, let's say, any country where Jooz live.

rand is the same type of scumbag as his miserable father ...

Rand Paul IS his father - both are fucking nuts in their foreign policy idea's, domestic idea's, monetary idea's.....

Yep, They're Fucking Nuts.

Another telling quote from a Fox News reader...

While I don't really care much for Jews in general, Scripture states that when the End Times come ((we're in the midst now) Jesus will come riding on a white steed through the streets of Israel. It's for this reason alone that I support that country.

There it is, folks.

Pretty self explanatory I would say. That web page is like a walk down a dark street with screams coming from the shadows.

That's not really true. The Congress consistently supports Israel, both Dems and Reps, with only less than a handful who do not support Israel. Those are typically Democrats. McKinney when she was in the Congress, Kucinich and Abercombie (off the top of my head). Now with the Tea Party Congresspeople, that number is growing which of course isn't good.

Even if you have no feeling for Jews one way or the other, you know that supporting Israel is good politics to keep the region stable. This is why an anti-Semite such as Richard Nixon backed Israel as he did. He did it because of communism. We do it today before of Arab terrorism, but it's the same thing.

That's why most teabaggers and wingnuts support Israel. They don't care about the people in Israel. The country just needs to exist in order to bring about the End Times and Christ's supposed return.

Their readers are already partway there. This quote from the article, for example:

I don't support the jews in Hollywood or other jews like them, but I do support Israel.

14 Steve Dutch  Fri, Jan 28, 2011 6:38:25pm

I have seen this coming for a long time and said nothing because I didn't want to give anyone ideas. But I see signs it's on the verge of happening anyway. It's only a matter of time before our far right teams up with Islamic extremists. They both hate personal freedom, want to keep women subjugated, and hate science and learning in general.

15 What, me worry?  Fri, Jan 28, 2011 7:25:16pm

Hmm... Why should we support Israel?

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.

Most of the Windows NT operating system was developed by Microsoft-Israel.

The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel.
The technology for AOL Instant Messenger was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.

With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and start-ups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world, apart from the Silicon Valley.
In response to serious water shortages, Israeli engineers and agriculturalists developed a revolutionary drip irrigation system to minimize the amount of water used to grow crops.

Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U.S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California's Mojave desert.

Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U.S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.

Israel's Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with congestive heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

And that's not even the half of it!

I looked through the comments and saw plenty of disagreement on Paul's idea to cut aid to Israel. Many of them are for cutting aid to all countries except Israel.

We cannot ignore the fact that support for Israel has grown substantially among conservatives over the past 15 years. It's ironic, since the old guard of the Republican party was very cool towards the country up until the early 1990s, while the Democrats were known as the big supporters. I see the repositioning of this blog as a step in the right direction - taking away the pro-Israel "monopoly" from the conservative side.

re: #13 fenrisdesigns

I think Beck and others are pushing a dangerous worldview where being a paranoid antisemite (i.e. NWO! Federal Reserve! Soros! Communist Professors!) and being pro-Israel is acceptable.

In a way, it's a throwback to the worldview Herzel thought he could appeal to over 100 years ago. He knew that the west was infested with antisemitism and thought he could get these countries support for a Jewish state which would absorb the Jews they hated.

18 Laughing Gas  Sat, Jan 29, 2011 3:58:32am

He clearly does not represent the Tea Party majority opinion; he's clearly from the isolationist camp, whereas most Tea Partiers are ardent hawks.

19 Timmeh  Sat, Jan 29, 2011 6:14:33am

This isn't only about Israel. The story is that he called for ending all foreign aid.

That's crazy and he should be criticized for it.

It would make as much sense frame it as he's proposing to cut off all aid to earthquake ravaged Haiti. Or help rescue Chilean miners. Or help countries devastated by the 2004 tsunami. Why just focus on one particular country?

20 Surabaya Stew  Sat, Jan 29, 2011 11:31:46am

Frankly, I'd love to live in a world where the USA didn't have to support Israel with military aid. But that world would feature a peaceful middle east, something which is not likely to happen for some time. Until that day comes when Israel is not threatened by her neighbors, we have to keep helping our ally out. Rand Paul is living is a dream world if he believes otherwise.
