I don’t know about you guys but I’ve always thought David Horowitz was full of shit. I mean this guy is a former far far leftist who now atones for that by being an equally nutty far rightist. And he’s stupid to call Arabic a language of the past. It is after all the language of the holy text of the fastest growing text in the world. And psst Dave, not all native Arabic speakers are Muslims either. And the bit about teachers indoctrinating their students with Palestinian ideology is such nonsense. The man clearly has a petty grudge against academia like many in his mindset and it’s pathetic.

I agree entirely that Chinese is a good choice, however, given the involvement that we will undoubtedly have in the Arab world for a long time to come, it might not be a bad idea to have some Arabic speakers, given how badly not having enough of them has bit us in the ass this past decade.

“We already have a lot of infiltration of Islamic jihadist doctrines into our K-12 school systems,” he argues. “The teachers unions have ruined our K-12 schools. These unions are very left-wing and they encourage Palestinian terrorists to come to the school and indoctrinate students. So I’m not too happy about this news item.”

Good lord. Unions are a big root cause of many of the problems that cripple American public schools, but guys like Horowitz are just making it worse for reformers by tossing us in with this looney nonsense. I mean seriously, Mr. Horowitz, aren’t you an educated man?

Some of California’s state college campuses are actually teaching Pashtun. Lefties call this a creeping way to turn the campuses into training zones for continued involvement in the Middle East. Lord knows what the narrative would be if Glenn Beck or Horowitz found out about it.

As for languages, Spanish is still a useful language and with demographic shifts in the United States native born Americans would be wise to learn it. It’s about how it is taught, however, and not what is taught. Learning a language requires immersion and not a textbook.

Horowitz has a bad case of projection combined with fear of competition. He’s clearly not against indoctrinating kids with theology.

You would think that Horowitz who advocates for just that would understand that. I know quite a few global affairs majors who have Arabic as their language for that exact reason. I’m doing Spanish myself because I’m terrible with languages and Spanish is the most practical. Plus, I want to go to Spain.

Is everyone on the right bat-shit insane?

My little 3 year old granddaughter has learned some Spanish and Chinese from cartoons. Sometimes we don’t have slightest idea what she’s saying. It’s cute as hell. Nick Jr. must be stopped!!!!

Learning a language requires immersion and not a textbook.

( Just as an aside…a textbook is invaluable for learning grammatical rules and words. And conversational classes and/or situations (coupled with practice, practice, AND PRACTICE!) are necessary if one hopes to converse with any fluency.)

“What has the Arab world contributed except terror?” he exclaims. “The theocratic, repressive Arabic states do no significant science, no significant arts and culture.”

Gee, sounds like a Republican.

Jihadi martyrs have a right to “Career Day” too.

I agree Chinese is probably a useful language. My preference is English comes first, which seems out of reach of many people born and raised in this country, including many foreign language-phobic adults and politicians that tweet. Anyone care to refudiate?

As far as current indoctrination goes, the most oppressive and damaging by far happens to be that of creationists.

The Arabs kept Plato and Aristotle alive for 1000 years until the west had the sense to pick them back up again.

It’s starting to feel that way.

Calling Arabic a language of the past is idiotic. The rest of Horowitz’s gibberish is too stupid to bother with.

Quote modified to one that could very possibly be uttered by a Muslim 10 years from now.

Proof positive that you’re trying to revive the Caliphate. You’re going to Cordoba and Granada, aren’t you?

(the Muslim buildings are still there, still beautiful… also the weather is exquisite, so’s the food. You’ll love it.)

Hah, you got me. But yeah it looks like a beautiful country with good food, people, and beer. Plus, I’ve been eager to learn more about the Spanish Civil War too.
