Bin Laden’s nightmare in Egypt
The worst thing that could happen to the extreme Islamists is for the major problems of the Mid East to be removed. because it is these open wounds that they pick at to justify and recruit for their causes.
Chief among those problems are the petite tyrants and dictators who rule by military might or by the Islamic version of the Divine Right of Kings - a twisted interpretation of Khalifa. These same tyrants work constantly to destabilize their neighbors, whether Islamic or Israeli, and they fund terror groups within each other’s borders.
Replace those tyrants with democracy, take their divine rights and hand them to everyone in the street, and you take away their chief causes. Who that is free wants to replace one tyrant with another?
The Mubarak Regime has collapsed and the voice of the people has been heard. The ramifications for Egypt and for the Middle East will be more powerful than the impact of Arab-Israeli wars. But even with the uncertainty about the future one thing is certain: We are witnessing Osama bin Laden’s nightmare.
What comes next is, first and foremost, for Egyptians to decide, and whatever happens, it is the Egyptian people who will have to live with the consequences.
