House Republicans pledge to defend Defense of Marriage Act

Less than a week after President Obama ordered the Justice Department to no longer defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, House Republicans pledged that they will work to protect the law, which bans the recognition of same-sex marriage.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told reporters at his weekly roundtable Monday that he stood by House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) statement that House Republicans will challenge Obama on the law, likely before the week is out.
