This reminds me of something - Growing up I was really, really into comic books. I was an only boy in my family and my mom didn't really have many male friends and there was a really strong layer of unspoken judgment about the stuff that I was reading. Especially in the 1990s, when the industry was hurting, comic books were flaunting sexuality unapologetically (along with absurdly muscular male heroes).

It really shocked and surprised me years later when I met a friend who was also a self-described feminist, and she told me she was obsessed with the X-Men animated series and really fond of it. Wha wha wha? Apparently the X-Men were full of strong female characters that had storylines and character independent of the men in the series. Storm, Rogue, Jean Grey, Psylocke, Domino, they're numerous and unapologetic.

hehe After I posted the article above, I read through the comments and a few women were appalled that any woman could accept the images enough to pay for the games. One said something to the effect, "Daddy didn't love you enough?" Or that the overly masculine male characters weren't as big a deal. That's probably true, but it still doesn't bother me. (And Daddy loved me a whole lot!)

Now that you mention it, I guess it's the warrior image that wins out over the misogyny.

Besides, Roberta Williams posed on the cover of Softporn Adventure (I never heard of it!) and apparently was a character in Leisure Suit Larry so hey, if it's good for the Queen of Gaming, how can I argue?
