Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) held a “listening session” at Burns Elementary School on Tuesday where he discussed a variety of issues with a crowd of nearly two dozen constituents. One of the attendees uploaded video of the session on YouTube.

At one point during the session, a man asked about drug testing for “welfare recipients.” Farenthold said that this is an idea worth considering, and then went on to complain that unemployment insurance is too generous. He then compared Americans on unemployment insurance to alcoholics and drug addicts:

Yes, because the job market is so strong, the only reason one would be unemployed is substance abuse.

Whenever I hear people like this I always think of a scene in Finian's Rainbow.

In that movie a character had stolen a leprechaun's pot of gold and brought it to America. The South actually. The pot of gold would grant three wishes if the person wishing was standing close enough. The pot was buried in the yard of the farm that the person that had stolen it ran.

Another character was a 'boss' in the Southern sense, and a really racist prick. Angry at him a third character shouted, "I wish to God you was black!" And poof! He was.

The man learned a lot.

So, to Rep. Farenthold, "I wish to God you were black!"

I might have more respect for the ignorant lardass if he was running in place while he was talking. Or maybe jumping rope. A stationary bike would've worked.

You'd think anyone so ignorant of their own excesses might see the situation a little more clearly, or be empathetic to those with real addictions, yet like his kindred spirits, he arrogantly stands there with both chins flapping in the breeze, perpetuating the fantasy that people on da unemployment are using the system to score booze and drugs.

And these corpulent fucks are the same ones that think tax breaks for the wealthy have been stimulating the economy and making jobs. If their fantasy world played out in real life, he wouldn't be having the discussion at all, since fewer people would be drawing unemployment. They could easily afford to make their house payments, buy groceries, and maybe have money for booze and drugs left over.

I started to write something else and decided not to. This piece of shit has never had a firm grip on reality and has never been outside looking in. He drinks from the well of ignorance, and is full from it. The majority of the GOP are just what they accused the left of being. Elitist. Know it alls. Better than you. This is true ignorance and bitterness. Someone somewhere just might be getting over on the system, so fuck 'em all. He can kiss my ass.
