So, lemme get this straight: Zealous cops and prosecutors have been stuffing our prisons full of minor drug offenders. Meanwhile the guards knowingly permitted, or worse yet perpetrated in, prison rape.

I mentioned in another topic that keeping drugs illegal effectively funds the drug cartels terrorizing Mexico, Columbia, and many other nations.

And its not even making a dent in drug abuse here at home. Yet, knowing all of this, we kept doing it.

...for decades. And we're still doing it.

This, all of this, is the real face of our "compassion" and "morality." What the hell is the matter with us?!

Sorry to derail this topic abit. But it makes me angry enough to spit blood. My own blood, of course. But still...

Someone is making a lot of money keeping the status quo. . . .

There is entirely too much money to be made in misery. The Drug War is one of the worst jokes in American History. Just ask Rush Limbaugh.

1. Because I can only give this post one upding, I'm repeating it.

2. Not a few people cheer for prison sentences because they want guilty defendants to be raped.

3. What's next, reality prison TV? A spin-off of American Idol? spit

Reality prison TV has already been done on the cable news channels and Court TV.

Coming soon to Fox: Rape or Release? The game show where convicts must answer general knowledge questions in order to win parole. The losers' consolation prize is an easily concealed trial size bottle of Vaseline.

What? Why wouldn't Fox do this?

Thank you for finding this article. The rape of men in prison is a serious, serious problem. I know some people like to think of it as retribution for the worst offenders like child molesters, and it is hard to blame them, but no where in our justice system does it say that rape is a legal use of punishment. Most of the men raped in prison are not just child molesters, everyone is a potential victim and it is wrong.
I would upding this article many more times if i could.

8 What, me worry?  Fri, Jun 24, 2011 7:35:21pm

What dawned on me by reading this article is what do we know about rape? Woman rape. We know it's not an act of sex. It's an act of violence, but more than the violence, it's an act of control and humiliation - via the violent act.

Maybe we think about it differently when it's done with men, or done with prisoners by guards, but we shouldn't. Understanding what it IS, it makes more sense why it's done. And of course, why it has to be stopped.

Prisons are inhumane? No worries, the conservative brain trust is on the case:

1. At National Review, deep thinker Jonah Goldberg is taken with the idea of bringing back flogging or caning. Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor, thinks waterboarding is interesting. The dovish Kevin Williamson merely wants to bring back the stocks: obviously not a Real Conservative...maybe one of them there RINOs?

2. Per comments above, we can further defray government expenses by selling tickers and television rights. And memorabilia. Franchising opportunities will abound. Who's your favorite flogger, America? Get ready for overseas talent to flock to our shores!

3. In the names of all the gods at once, note that these punishments were discarded as uncivilized during Jim Crow or earlier.

See? What did they know? Lets boil 'em in Crisco!

Just in case: /sarc
