Yuma courthouse to be named after slain Tucson judge
I didn’t realize they were college buddies. What a tragedy.
A new federal courthouse in Yuma will be named after a judge killed in the Tucson mass shooting.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the John M. Roll United States Courthouse will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Yuma.
Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are one of Roll’s sons and fellow shooting survivor Ron Barber, who was Roll’s college buddy.
Roll may have helped save Barber’s life the day of the Jan. 8 shooting.
Police say surveillance video of the shooting shows Roll pushing Barber to the ground, helping him crawl under a table and then lying on top of him.
Roll then was shot in the back and lost his life in the process.
