Chihuahua Governor: Praxedis G. Guerrero’s former chief Marisol Valles left Mexico amid feud
It’s really worth reading the whole thing.
Chihuahua Gov. Cesar Duarte this week accused Marisol Valles Garcia, the 21-year-old former chief of police of Praxedis G. Guerrero now seeking political asylum in the United States, of leaving Mexico for personal reasons and not because of any actual danger.
And for those comments, Valles’ attorney was grateful.
“We thank the governor for his attacks because they help our case,” immigration attorney Carlos Spector said. “Marisol is a woman seeking justice who has been abandoned by the state. Her case shows that there is impunity and that the state cannot protect its people.”
Last year, Valles made international headlines for accepting a position left vacant for one year after the previous police chief of Praxedis was decapitated.

And Tuesday, Duarte publicly criticized Valles again, arguing that she fled because of a personal quarrel with a co-worker and that she didn’t meet the requirements to qualify for political asylum.
“People from Juárez and Chihuahua are making a great effort to change the image of Juárez, and because of a quarrel between women, someone goes and says that she should receive political asylum. That has nothing to do with security,” Duarte said.

Of five women who have stepped up as chiefs of police across northern Mexico since 2008, one has disappeared, two have been killed, and Valles has fled the country.

Duarte should wish for a hundred Marisols instead of denigrating the one he had.
