Legislated "Prayer and Penane" days are not uncommon in Europe (Switzerland has had one in every canton since the 16th century). It is apparently the case that certain US politicians are looking to the Middle Ages for their inspiration, which should surprise no-one.

Dammit. "Penance", not "Penane", obviously.

It amazes me that a seditionist like Perry is favored to run for the GOP presidential nomination, but maybe it shouldn't, given his preposterous public demonstrations of piety. Again, the GOP has turned into a magical thinking cult with no relation to reality.

How is the even legal to use your office to promote religion? Can anyone even challenge the legality of these rallies?

Is this being broadcast on TV? Is anyone from LGF going? Are we going to get a live report somehow?

We have a "national day of prayer" each and every year as declared by Congress. According to Wikipedia:

The National Day of Prayer (36 U.S.C. § 119)[1] is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.[2] The modern law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952, although it has historical origins to a mandate by George Washington, the first president of the United States.

The difference here is that the governors are promoting a Christian day of prayer. I suspect it will be equally ineffective.

Maybe God will perform a conservative miracle in answer to their fervent petitions and slay all the liberals.
