Rick Perry: ‘Taken Aback’ By Cheers for ‘Let Them Die’ at Debate

Rick Perry was emotionless last week when faced with the 234 executions Texas has carried out on his watch. But he told reporters in Florida Tuesday that the audience cheer in support of the idea of letting the uninsured die at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate freaked even him out a little.

‘I was a bit taken aback by that myself,’ Perry said to reporters from NBC News and the Miami Herald in Tampa Tuesday.

‘We’re the party of life,’ Perry said. ‘We ought to be coming up with ways to save lives.’

1. The “party of life” statement is such bullshit. Neither party has exclusive claim to that title.

2. I can think of plenty of ways to save lives, Rick — health insurance, better oversight of the death penalty so the innocent don’t get executed, food stamps, safe working conditions, safe drinking water and less pollution, etc. It’s not that hard.

This is rich coming from the guy who had a man executed knowing hew as innocent but it’s also really telling about the Tea Party too that they’d cheer that on. And Rick your party has never been the party of life at all. You can’t be adamantly pro death penalty and say that about yourselves.

The thing is, if you’re saying that Americans should have the “freedom” to live without health insurance (ie: eff you if you’re poor), then the only logical conclusion is “let them die.”

I have one! You were against the Stimulus Bill, so you took a stand against federal spending by refusing to take any part of the funds. Good for you! Oh, wait…

But but but, Dr Paul has been absolutely clear in saying,

Liberty is secondary to life. If you’re careless about the defense of life, you can’t be a champion of liberty.

So he must have meant that public funds should be available for lifesaving medical treatment, right? Because if Dr Paul is anything, he’s a champion of liberty… right?
