Fox Nation Reacts to Nobel Prize Winners
Declaring women’s rights vital for world peace, the Nobel Committee awarded its annual Peace Prize on Friday to three indomitable female campaigners against war and oppression — a Yemeni and two Liberians, including that country’s president.
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first woman freely elected as a head of state in Africa, shared the award worth $1.5 million with compatriot Leymah Gbowee, who promoted a “sex strike” among efforts to end Liberia’s civil war, and Yemen’s Tawakul Karman, who called her honor “a victory for the Arab Spring.”
“We cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace in the world unless women obtain the same opportunities as men to influence developments at all levels of society,” Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland told reporters.
“This is to highlight an incredibly important issue all over the world but especially in Africa and in the Arab world.”
In fairness to Fox, the story itself (a portion of a Reuters article) is inoffensive. It’s also worth noting that 12 of the 20 people who voted found the story “inspiring.”
It could, however, be argued that Fox employed their patented dog whistle with the title they chose for the story:
Nobel Peace Prize Goes to African and Arab Women
Is it possible that this was not meant to bait the racists and misogynists who infest Fox Nation? Anything’s possible, but given their history, I’m disinclined to give Fox the benefit of the doubt on the matter.
Regardless of intent, check out a few of the comments.
By international law it should be required for any M uslim receiving a “Peace Prize” to remove their suicide vest before accepting the check.
…
Political Correctness.
…
At least they are consistent. The last one I believe went to a M u s l i m Kenya citizen for doing nothing.
…
IT’S PRETTY CLEAR THEY WON’T BE WINNING ANY BEAUTY CONTESTS ANYTIME SOON
…
The African Mudslimes gave their women equal rights when they allowed them to strap on explosives and detonate them in crowds, what more do they want?
…
These women really deserve the award… The children they raise are so peaceful…
As usual, I could go on. I think it’s interesting to note that, by Bill O’Reilly standards, Fox Nation is a hate site. Don’t hold your breath waiting for him to interrupt his celebration of 15 years of ‘Factor Fun’ to point that out, though.
