Sentencing time for the faith healers
If you are just now tuning in, Oregon has a religious group that relies solely on faith healing. Until a few years ago, the law ignored the death of children because there had been an exemption for the faith healers. Normally, failing to get emergency medical care for a child is a crime.
This couple are just the most recent case. Oregon is no longer ignoring this. They were convicted of failing to get help for their son who died after being born two months premature.
What is interesting about this story is that until recently, Oregon also had a clause that allowed people convicted in these cases to get a lesser sentence than they would otherwise. This is the last of these cases that the old law will apply to. They could get 6 years, or they could get 12-18 months.
