Is it any wonder businesses- and jobs- are leaving California?

Over regulation has become a vehicle for raising income. That is not sustainable, anywhere.

It took over two years to get the latest Whole Foods open in Lafayette (next community over). It was good to go physically in a matter of a few months. The rest was permits. Alameda has their own special permit hell above and beyond any of the surrounding communities and the states bureaucratic nightmare - not only for businesses but the home owners as well.

Government is fighting for its own survival and we seem to be the enemy to be crushed and plundered. What will ever happen when they finally win their bureaucratic war?

They’ll go out with a whimper.

Successful nations reinvent themselves when necessary.

We’ll do just that. It won’t be painless or easy but future generations will thank us.

Yeah. Because the shitty tax structure and financial problems caused by their massive budget deficit have nothing to do with anything in California.

The problems are not new.

It’s the lack of will to deal with those problems that si the real and ongoing story.

Over regulation

Yeah. These two ideas are incompatible.

If you want the government to deal with a problem, expect regulation.

Your point is well taken.

Nevertheless, why should the cost of opening a restaurant in California be 100k more than in Texas?

There has to be a happy medium here.

In the end, California cannot sustain a prolonged flight of business.

I believe no one wanted Sacramento to “deal with a problem” - they just elbowed their way in. Sacramento’s political spending makes drunken sailors on shore leave look like prudent investors.

Property values in California are significantly higher than they are here in Texas.

Also, their government is saddled with the Republican idiocy of a balanced budget amendment that requires a massive supermajority to raise any new revenue. Then they add more spending referendums to the ballot every year.

Don’t just blame over-regulation when California’s problems are much, much larger.
