I do hereby declare that, as a member of the Chinese people, I have never authorized any organization to send a message of condolence regarding Kim Jong Il’s death on my behalf. Kim Jong Il was not my close friend. Please reconsider using phrases like “close friends of the Chinese people” in such documents in the future. Thank you!

In other words, the equivalent of giving the Chinese communist regime the middle finger.

How bad of a ruler do you have to be for the citizens of a “friendly’ dictatorship to risk jail or worse just to spit on your grave?

This is good news in a sense. In spite of some intentionally disheartening acts of oppression by the Chinese government, dissenters aren’t even close to shutting-up. Maybe I’m being naively optimistic, but democracy may yet come to China in our lifetime.

As for North Korea, lets hope The Onion’s satire proves true and the new Kim isn’t quite bat-s*** insane like his father.

Hmmm… One does have to wonder. If an editor of a prominent Chinese magazine has the ability to tell his own government that they’re full of crap on this issue, is this actually a real-world case of the Central Planning Committee saying that “Publicly and officially, we’re saddened at this news while, privately and unofficially, we’re giddy as drunken Japanese schoolgirls at a Hatsune Miku concert”?

After all, this is China we’re talking about. (Admittedly, not even the Chinese media could report that the Premier can go without defecating. The peasant practicality of over a billion would simply laugh in their faces if they tried.) Anything that goes to press that isn’t fully vetted beforehand is antithetical to their state-run society. Editors are among the more closely watched Party members, whether in their public communications or private, and this kind of thing does not happen by accident.
