They chose the spray paint among other options. Did you hear about the couple in the UK? They are presently on trial, so I won’t link or talk about it further.

I heard about it. I chose not to link to the story.

Maladjusted psychopaths.

I wonder why Ynet didn’t use a photo of the actual graffiti? The one shown is political, having to do with Fatah.

Here’s a rough translation (view annotated photo):

Fatah (big red letters on right)
No reconciliation
Illusionist/snake charmer
[is] your enemy
[I can only make out a few letters of the last line because it’s too messy & chopped off, but there are the letters ?? b d s k ?]

WRT the last line, I can’t really tell if the message was left by Fatah or if it’s supposed to be about Fatah, but it clearly has nothing to do with Muhammad. None of the letters indicated constitute his name or any of the other words used to refer to him.

Bob, sorry to go OT, but do you happen to know the story behind the emblem (coat of arms?) of the city of Netanyahu? It’s very nice—looks like a water lily of some sort, so now I’m curious about the symbolism behind it.

It’s hard to conceive of just how small Israel is. There are US high school papers with a bigger staff than Ynet. Mostly, it’s just stringers from around the country who have other jobs, and write an occasional article. The photo, hidden among the ads, is labeled ‘(archives)’. They don’t have the people power to actually go to the story with a photographer—or, I should say the money to pay the people to go out etc.

Most likely, someone will send in a story, someone at the office will call the cops to confirm, someone else will translate, and they get it out. Many times they will rely on an the AP, Reuters, or AFP. They will spend the resources whenever there is an attack.

And if there weren’t attacks, grass growing is major news.

Grass growing is a major event. Really, I’m not kidding. It’s a hard land.

Yes, I noticed it was labeled “archives”, I guess I just expected that they’d have something on file that was at least similar to the story. I suppose the reason I thought that is because other stories about vandalism linked to in the same article had photos of the actual events.

Interesting though. I didn’t realize what small staffs some outfits have. Thanks.
