What’s particularly interesting about this poll is that solid majorities of Republicans favor most of the law’s main provisions, too.

This is frustrating. The GOP leadership has made this a personal battle with Obama. This is a large part of what is fucking up politics in this country today. When McCain mavericks his ass off and supports something worthwhile, when anyone does, they should be supported in that effort. But Republicans simply can’t bring themselves to support Obama even on the things they support. They reject him, the person. They’ve made politics personal.

I am not sure how we move beyond this. Growing the fuck up seems beyond these people.

This makes about as much sense as stating that you love grilled ground beef patties with melted cheese, ketchup, pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato between a sliced sesame seed bun ... but you hate hamburgers.

Personal, partisan, destructive. That's the new GOP. But the argument over the mandate far predates GOP Version .TP It goes back to the commerce clause cases.

The obvious compromise is the states do this under a Federal (Medicare maybe?) umbrella of standards and procedures. Then you pull in those who (rightly or wrongly) object to the mandate. Arnold Schwarzenegger had a good proposal in his day for California. With a Medicare buy in for all ages as an alternative to the existing providers, why the hell not?

If my memory serves correctly, and it's hard to tell because this election has been going on 50 years now? Something like that? The Teabaggers started calling it Obamacare during his first year. The evil liberal media caught on and started repeating it. Then everybody just called it that. I never really liked it because it was meant to be negative - for no reason other than it was his.

The hypocrisy also stood out in the beginning during the TP protests when they would carry signs "Hands of My Medicare" and such.

There do remain legitimate questions re funding, mandates and implementation.

They have nothing to do with the idea of universal healthcare.
