Inappropriate at best, racist at worst.
I'm seeing worst case here.

Wow, this touches on all the racist stuff not least of which is the old fashioned colonialism of the civilized westerner/European colonizing the land of the savage and thus has a better claim to it because he is civilized and developing it better than the savage could.

I just had dinner last night at a restaurant run by a Jordanian whose first name is Jihad. He cooks the most awesome stuff and he's a sweet man to boot!

Ecelectic, you should know that you have to get up pretty damn early to beat out the Zionist I assume you mean on a scoop!
I'll just post this here again, because their words bear repeating: JCRC and the AJC released a press release on these ads:

The Bay Area Jewish Community Condemns Anti-Muslim Muni Bus Ads –
Statement from the Jewish Community Relations Council and the American Jewish Committee
San Francisco – Last week, a new advertisement appeared on Muni buses in San Francisco, placed by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. The Bay Area’s organized Jewish community takes great offense to the ad’s inflammatory and anti-Muslim language. We are steadfast in our support of Israel and our concern about the growing threat of Islamic radicalism, and steadfast in our opposition to anti-Muslim stereotypes.
We have long been concerned that the repeated appearance of offensive anti-Israel ads would turn our local public transit system into a battleground for the Israeli-Arab conflict; we are no less concerned by offensive anti-Muslim ads. We urge all transit authorities to reassess their policies and to construct advertising policies consistent with laws governing protected speech that preserve public transit as a safe space for all passengers.

Heh, after Osama, that probably has to be one of the least fortunate names to have when living in America.

This for posting this. It's good to know these things—they make a difference, at least in my mind.

He goes by Joe, but my dad met him years ago when he used his real first name, so that's what my dad calls him.

I once observed a class of English language learners where there were two little boys, one named Osama and the other Saddam. Not kidding. I usually encourage kids to keep their real names, and not get palmed off with Anglo replacements, but in that case I think "Sam" and "Danny" might be an excellent idea.

I wish someone could explain to Pam that 'dhimmi' is not actually Arabic for 'person who disagrees with Pam Geller'.
When one of the guys on one of my Israel lists saw this, he assumed it was something that had been commissioned by one of the local anti-Israel groups as a troll.
We explained about Pam.
He's sort of dismayed.

Saddam, ouch. Heh, yeah, better to go by a nickname in those cases.

Yeah, she's something of a shock to those who are used to sane people.
