Meet Steve Klein, Nakoula’s anti-Islamic film consultant
A consultant who worked on the anti-Islam film that has sparked outrage in the Middle East and led to the death of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans said he did not expect violence and doesn’t “give a darn” if Muslims find it offensive.
Steve Klein, a Hemet insurance agent, compared himself to an unsophisticated James Bond” who ferrets out terrorist cells in California and Muslims who sympathize with terrorists.
He said he served as a consultant and fact-checker for the movie “Innocence of Muslims.”
The intent of the film, he said, was to help identify people who sympathized with Osama bin Laden and terrorists…
The Southern Poverty Law Center has a lengthy file on Klein, who has been active in anti-Muslim and extremist groups for decades.
According to the center, in 1977 Klein founded Courageous Christians United, which has staged protests outside mosques and abortion clinics. In 2007 he sued the city of San Clemente after it ordered him to stop planting anti-illegal immigration fliers on cars.
Klein, 62, heads the group Concerned Citizens for the First Amendment, which stages rallies and educational events, contending Islam is a threat to U.S. democracy and freedom…
Klein’s group unsuccessfully sought to block construction of the Islamic Center of Temecula Valley, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of his Hemet office.
The city council took protesters’ concerns seriously, said Councilman Mike Naggar, who doesn’t personally know Klein.
‘For us it was a land-use decision,’ Naggar said in an e- mail. ‘That said, we did not ignore some of the concerns raised in the meeting — terrorism, etc. We recognized that there may be valid concerns, absent a violation of the law this is not a matter for a city council but the DOJ or the FBI.’
The mosque is scheduled to break ground Sept. 28, according to Grant Yates, a city spokesman.
Rabbi Nachum Shifren, a 2010 California state senate candidate from Santa Monica, joined Klein to oppose construction of the Islamic Center.
‘Steve’s a patriot and a true American, a no nonsense guy,’ Shifren, who is nicknamed the Surfing Rabbi because he runs a surfing school, said in a telephone interview. He said he wasn’t involved in the film’s production.
Klein has been waging his own holy war since 1977, when he founded Courageous Christians United (CCU), a group that conducts ‘respectful confrontations’ outside of abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.
In 2004, CCU’s anti-abortion efforts earned Klein the acclaim of the late Robert Ferguson, an anti-abortion extremist whose vocal support for the murderers of physicians, reproductive clinic workers, secretaries and escorts led the radical, pro-violence ‘Army of God’ website to dub him a ‘Hero of the Faith.’
Klein now heads Concerned Citizens for the First Amendment, which has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group recently partnered with the ironically named Christian Anti-Defamation Commission to leaflet California high schools with material depicting the prophet Mohammad as a sex-crazed pedophile.
When he’s not busy spreading fear and hate among America’s youth, Klein conducts outreach and encourages militancy among Christians from the Middle East and northern Africa.
He runs drills with the Christian Guardians, a San Francisco-based group headed by Andrew Saqib James, an American-born Pakistani Christian who calls Islam ‘a giant crime syndicate’ and hopes his group will become ‘the most feared militia in the world.’ The trainings, which allegedly take place at the Church at Kaweah’s sprawling central California compound, are described as a ‘unique system of learning how to survive the Muslim Brotherhood as we teach the Christian Morality of Biblical Warfare.’
Read it all. This fool seems to be almost pushing for an out and out war between his verison of Christianity and Islam.
