I assume this is a political decision, since it doesn't make much sense to leave these people uninsured.

Of course it is political. They will get emergency health care - a law passed by a Republican administration, if I recall, prevents hospitals from denying service.

Both morally and economically, this is a stupid decision.

it's a trap. I expect Romney to issue a statement today that he fully supports health-care for immigrants, then walk it back tomorrow.

In the absence of a significant change in immigration law, young immigrants granted temporary relief from deportation have no clear path to green cards or citizenship.

The stop-gap measure of "deferred enforcement" is untenable. These people are signing up for "deferred deportation". They are signing up for deportation, unless their status is changed soon. This better be a step to full legalization, and soon, or it's going to look like nothing but a trap.
