I’m kind of down on the practice of pointing to Free Republic threads in the manner one would with an automobile wreck…
…oh, who the hell am I kidding. As bad as it is, it’s still a ways from Stormfront, and some here, myself included, once posted there, so it’s not like we never saw anything whatsoever redeeming there, regardless of how we may view it these days.
Every once in awhile the issue of slavery would come up, and there would always be a couple, or a few, contrarian shit heads who would argue the drop-dead stoopid/evil line that slaves were somehow better off in this or that way, or some such. Typically others would repudiate this garbage, at least to the point where I could confidently judge that the site wasn’t Stormfront…or that it still wasn’t, hadn’t lurched a fair distance in the direction of Stormfront (which is not to say that it was somehow better, but…).
Then this jackass from Arkansas talks this bullshit, and then we see this. In which the rationalizations supporting Hubbard’s assertion have gone in a direction that is just mind-boggling, even to someone who has read some truly unbelievable crap on this site over the years. I’ll excerpt a few, but I’m not exactly sure where to start. This is conservatism as we know it in 2012?
