This would only be humor if we frequently saw observant Jews portrayed with prominent human features, in publications that are not based in Israel or focusing on a predominantly Jewish audience. I think you had it right the first time. It took a while, but I did finally get what you were doing.

I'm glad to see that SJS rode out the storm OK. Even managed to keep his hat. (Indiana Jones would agree that that is important.)

Two thoughts: Yeah for the sunshine. While you cannot have the SJS without sunshine, at the same time the East Coast could use a little sunshine right now.

Secondly: I know this photo is a fake. It's obvious. The Juice control the world, so there is no way they would have to wait for gas. They must be waiting for their secret Zionist paychecks or something.

The fact is they are not waiting in line for gas. Do you see the sign on the store? They are waiting in line for COFFEE.

Who did you put in charge of controlling the world's coffee supply? I told you that Steve would do the job better. Oh. Uh, forget I said that.

Jews don't even need to be in shadow anymore, now just having shadows is enough to prove the er....conspiracy or whatever.

The first lot of SJS pics were weak sauce but they were like molasses next to this.

This is a picture of people, some of whom appear to be Jews, and yes there is a sun in the sky. With the laws of physics being what they are, the fact is those people are going to have shadows. It's actually a very ordinary sort of picture.

It's just a meme! Like cats with silly captions. Did you notice it is in the "humor" category?

I hope you have an emergency supply of your famous cream for your awful, awful butthurt.

And what the meme is saying is that these pictures are evidence of ill-feeling towards Jews in the way that they are portrayed in the media. That's how it has always been presented and received here as you well know. That's how Bob Levin understood it when he said:

This would only be humor if we frequently saw observant Jews portrayed with prominent human features, in publications that are not based in Israel or focusing on a predominantly Jewish audience. I think you had it right the first time. It took a while, but I did finally get what you were doing.

Bob stated quite clearly what is intended by this SJS 'meme'. Didn't see you pointing out to him that he was wrong and that it is just intended as a joke.

I hope you have an emergency supply of your famous cream for your awful, awful butthurt.

I have no idea why you would think I'd be butthurt, I just find it difficult to resist the urge to call out stuff that's this stupid.

Are you arguing or name-calling? I don't keep up with all that you write, but off the top of my head, I can't recall you actually arguing. So, if you want to argue this point, go ahead. But if you just want to call it stupid and be content with that, perhaps there are other intrapsychic battles you should be fighting.

Interesting, it has some of the SJS compositional features, but not all. And one, as noted, is conflicted with other compositional elements. Cute.

Not really. It's Alouette and some other people's way of dealing with the large amounts of crazed Jew-hate in the world. It's designed to make very clear that the deranged Haters spew hate with little to no provocation. "Scary Jew Shadow" is intended to make the point that what the haters are angry about isn't an action being taken by Jews or Israel, the Haters just plain hate Jews. Mocking them through humor is a way to deflect the hurt of such hate and make the hater spewing it look ridiculous.

Of course there are people in the world who hate jews, but this SJS thing is a way of imagining it where it clearly isn't there, and projecting nasty motivations onto professionals in the media who deserve a little better than to be thoughtlessly smeared in this way. Ever thought about that? I really think you should.

But this argument is moot anyway because hey - it's a joke, an internet meme - like lolcats! Didn't you get the 'explanation' from Alouette herself?:

The reason why Alouette is suddenly pretending that it's just a joke is that she at least had the glimmer of sense required to realise that seriously defending this picture as a valid example of antisemitism would be a much bigger joke.

Jimmah, she's not arguing the photo itself is an example of anti-Semitism. Check out this link to her blog. She's also got "scary shadow" posts for Muslims and for Barack Obama. The whole point of all of those posts is to mock haters.

Your concern is duly noted.
