got me on a tangent I think worthy of it’s own thread:
The Christian religious right got conned and co-opted for the benefit of anti-Christian capitalism.
We find the God the Christian right once worshiped, the Son Of Man who railed against the rich and money changers and said we as a collective should serve the poor and pay our taxes and respect govt authority was a govt hating, free market capitalist who followed some form of Calvinist prosperity gospel where the whole point of being a good Christian was so God could reward you with earthly riches.
It has to be the greatest con job by GOP Wall Street serving leadership on the religious base of the GOP that has ever been done.
PS: In Europe, where they do have Christian religion based parties, their social issues do resemble traditional social issues of the American right, but on economic issues these “Christian democrat” parties while supporting the free market in principle also support social justice programs and high taxes on the rich (and in general) for social welfare reasons.
