I would be fully in support of ending federal laws against marijuana.
"Leave it to the states" is the best solution to that question, as with many other issues. And I say that as an uptight right-wing reactionary, who - unlike Obama - has never even tried the stuff.

You still got meth, heroin, GHB, crack and powder cocaine to deal with. Love to see marijuana legalized so resources can aim at the dangerous drugs.

But that does still leave us with a huge trafficking network to stop.

After watching the U.S. for many years I've come to the conclusion that it is impossible to get the U.S. to act collectively on problems unless war is declared against it. Which causes some serious problems.

These 'wars' have no chance of victory. There is no nation to strike at. There cannot be a strategy in the sense that the word means in warfare. It makes many Americans part of 'the enemy'. It can't even affect the causes of the problem.

But wars get people excited, get politicians elected and get businesses contracts. So this sort of idiocy will continue for the foreseeable future.

DEVIL WEED !!!! The Drug War is over , we lost it a long long time ago .
But the " Reefer Madness " mentality lives on forever .
Legalize pot and cocaine - and eliminate the cartels overnight , more importantly save about 50,000 innocent Mexican lives a year , and automatically solve the weapons flowing into Mexico from the unscrupulous Ajmerican assssholes on the Texas and Arizona border , where private citizens can legally sell any amount of AK's , UZI's , 50 caliber's and black Rifles not to mention ANY sidearm you can think of , without ANY documentation AT ALL .
Use the billions upon billions spent on that lost war ,to rehab anyone who needs it .

This video keeps me sane. A monkey, a pig, riding (backwards)... ...and suddenly I can deal with the randomness of the universe. Oh, and apologies for the earworm.

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics
Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists. During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace. Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Pope Francis explained how upset Jesus' ...

Holder: We’ve Droned 4 Americans, 3 by Accident.
In an extraordinary admission, Attorney General Eric Holder has told Congress that U.S. drone strikes since 2009 have killed four Americans -- three of whom were "not specifically targeted." For all the effort that the Obama administration has gone to in asserting that its drones only kill the people that the administration intends to kill, Holder wrote in a letter today to Sen. ...

Obituary: John Goddard Dies at 88; Adventurer Fulfilled Most of Childhood Goals

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...
