Settlements are nothing new and clearly, this announcement is provocative.

Nevertheless, I have to wonder if this is also about appeasing violent factions within Gaza so as to keep the volume of violence down and keeping Israel from a new incursion.

You are right that settlements are not new. At the same time you are wrong (IMO) to dismiss them.

The settlement process is a historic method of conquering territory, going back even before the Romans. I have said repeatedly that this, of any action I know, is the one that demonstrates Israel's dishonesty when discussing peace with the Palestinians. "You have to quit shooting rockets Then we will consider removing some of our settlements."

Again, context. How would we react if Mexico seized some property in El Paso, TX this way?

When are these world leaders going to summon the Syrian president for slaughtering his own citizens? Oh, wait....

re: #5 Flavia

that's completely nutty, considering you don't "summon" a president, you summon diplomats, and that the majority of the world has already broken off ties with Syria by expelling Syrian diplomats from there countries.

Syria is already isolated, while Israel is moving more and more into that direction though the decisions it is making.

I was being flip & trying to make a point that you seem to have missed. How is it that you also equate building apartments with slaughtering your own citizens?

Global Issues: U.S. Charities Proselytize Overseas Using Public Funds
It's unconstitutional for faith-based organizations (FBOs) to proselytize using public funds, but some FBOs manage to circumvent these rulings by conducting their evangelistic charity projects overseas. In a recent article for Firstpost, an Indian website, Rupa Subramanya argues that ...

Are conservatives anti-science?

Here is an interesting article on one of Tail Gunner Joe's sick witch hunts that has, unfortunately, been forgotten. I try not to feel schadenfreude of the fate of McCarthy's side kick, Ray Cohn, but I never succeed.
