"We don't know what this gas is". It's not confirmed that the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons in Homs. And tear gas doesn't count.

It is an interesting article but it does bear remembering this guy ran hit squads or the regime

Still, it would not surprise me if the allegations proved true.

On another page I posted that the "low" death toll did NOT disprove the use of chemical weapons. Here I'll say that just because a defector says chemicals weapons were used, it does not mean that they actually were.

He says he's been working with the rebels for awhile, so the alternative hypothesis is pretty simple: His defection and statements are in coordination with the Rebels attempt to create the narrative that Assad is using chemical weapons.

Either way, I don't think the West is interested in getting much more involved, or they'd not have discounted this story so much. The fact is, if the West wanted all in, they could jump all over this. Maybe I'm wrong, but all but one Carrier and an LHA are in home ports right now. And even that one Carrier, the John C. Stennins, is making port call at Jebel Ali in the UAE and the LHA is headed for port call in Bahrain. Not to mention it is already dedicated to Afghanistan operations. Maybe other countries want to get involved so the US just pulled all of it's carriers and LHAs back to home port as if to say, "have fun, we can't help you right now." The French and Italians do have carriers.

Don't ask me where they are though. Off the Syrian coast?

White phosphorus is another 'chemical weapon', technically, but isn't what the popular usage includes. I suppose you could come up with an organophosphate that would kill a handful of people in a populated area, but developing such a thing would be pretty stupid. The 'red line' means the use of special weapon stocks, not a weapon that is made out of iron and other chemicals.

When in doubt, dictators blame the Jews.
